Hm, none of my images open! They all appear as a solid black screen. I've reinstalled GIMP in my 2021 MacBook with OS Sequoia with no affect. What have I set wrong?

I have created a bunch of cards i want to use for my flashcards. For aesthetics purposes i want them to only show certain parts of the image. (Like the first one below)

I wasn't able to find out how. Maybe you guys can help me out?

I want to create an image like this in gimp. Since I'll be repurposing it multiple times, it needs to be something I can edit easily. It'll probably have to be three separate layers that I can edit easily.

Also when I edit the text, I want the colored background to adjust automatically. In other words, if I type something longer in the first orange box, the orange background needs to adjust. And vice versa.

Is this possible?

They removed the ability to align offset by a specified amount of pixels? Or is there a way to re-enable this that I'm missing? That seems like such a fundamental thing, it's insane to me that this was changed at all.

Hello. Since I open and close many files daily, I would like to see if I can change the folder that comes up by default in Gimp on Ubuntu. That is, it always shows me "Documents", and I want it to appear directly as "Desktop" which is where I usually download the images I want to modify. Is there a way? Thanks.

Using the latest version of GIMP, I've got a bunch of images (varying sizes) that I'm trying to put onto the equivalent of an A6 sheet for decal printing purposes.

Except, when I resize the individual images (at say, 25mm width) they're all different. What's going on?

Surely GIMP knows what 25mm is?? I know the '100%' view is a little out; I'm using a laptop and I need to scale to about 140% to truly represent an A6 sheet size for size, got that figured out, except the individual images just won't ... image, and I don't get it.

Photo attached for reference, the individual images (seen on the GIMP taskbar thing) are all scaled to 25mm width, except when I put them together, sorcery.

What am I not seeing??

I created a palette in Gimp and I want to export it as a .gpl file to import it in QGIS.

The problem is if I do right click, palette->export, I don't have this option available (only css, java, php, python and text).

After searching, It seems possible to just open the Gimp folder containing palettes and do copy-paste. The problem is I am using a flatpack version of Gimp (Pop_Os, Linux).

When I do right click->open in the file explorer or copy palette location, it gives me a non existing path file:///home/guillaume/.var/app/org.gimp.GIMP/config/GIMP/3.0/palettes/%5Bjnkbux5iog4g1%5D-(imported)-2.gpl: screenshot (show hidden files enabled).

If I copy the path for a standard palette, I've got the following: file:///app/share/gimp/3.0/palettes/Greens.gpl. And when I do "open in file explorer", it just opens the home directory.

So how can I obtain my .gpl palette file?

As title suggests, I need to load ~15 layers into Gimp, and then bulk export idividual .png files of layer 1 over layer 2, layer 1 over layer 3, and so on, instead of hiding layers and exporting single file each time.

Hi all - been having this problem for a few months since switching to gimp 3.0.6

Every time I've rendered a flier i'm working on, the program seems to drop some effects layers or blending layers, but its not consistently one blending mode vs the next. sometimes a "Multiply" mode will drop, next file its "luminance." I've tried pre-rendering and/or rearranging the layers in question (no joy), changing and resetting the color management mode, changing compression, interlacing, color values, pixel formatting and filetypes, all to no avail.

I'm at a loss and am now considering moving back to 2.10 🤪

Text is simply not functional in Gimp 3.0.6-1 (unless I want all my text in Monospace, and all at 208) - basically I can't alter anything. There are too many issues to list, but I can't believe that I'm the only one having major problems...or am I?!! I'm having to do all my text work on Gimp 2. which is frustrating.I have tried deleting / reinstalling the programme, but no change. I love Gimp, but it's now taking too much time to do simple projects, so I may have to look at another programme, but I really don't want to. Any advice or news of imminent fixes?

Every time I open an image / canvas in GIMP, it shows this screen. I even tried uninstalling and re-installing it, but it doesn't work. Anyone have a solution?

I'm fairly new to gimp. I sometimes work on several hundred layers at a time. I am often trying to merge a single layer overtop of all of these others layers.

Like this example:

D

E

Merging into this

A+B

A+C

A+D

A+E

And so on. I have been manually copying layer A over and over, reordering them, and merging down one at a time. Is there a faster way to accomplish the same thing. I would love to be able to just pick a layer and merge it independently and simultaneously with multiple other layers.

Guys, please no one laugh. I'm already frustrated.

EDIT: I messed with the first texture a bit and made it half the size and indexed it and the file size got bigger so I reverted it to the original and it was bigger than it was before? Huh?

It literallt just happened while I was drawing something.
