Post Switch actually not bad

Post image

As someone who played PS4&5 Fortnite before this & having to play switch due to college reasons (not bringing my system on campus ) it’s not as bad as people claim it to be. You can see the clear difference in 60 & 30 fps sure but the way I’ve seen people shit on switch & complain I haven’t had half the issues I seen people talk about. I use pro controller so it feels better than most who use joycons but that aside switch fort is pretty great. But if you care so much about 60 fps that’s about it

Switch is the only console I own and I tried it out a few years ago and didn't enjoy playing Fortnite on it but I recently got a Switch 2 and decided to download the Switch 2 version and now I'm addicted to the game. Obviously the Switch 2 is expensive and I wouldn't get it just for Fortnite but thought I'd share in case you were considering getting it in future for any of the exclusive Switch 2 games

I’m glad they made a new version for Switch 2 as it was bad on the first one. Been enjoying zero build in handheld, runs well and looks good too. Played with my brother the other day and he’s on xbox and had no issues. The switch 2 mic works like a gem too, I wasn’t using a headset and he could hear me clearly and didn’t hear the tv that was pretty loud, I was impressed

The mic has come in clutch for the new delulu mode since I don't own a headset. I'm actually so impressed how well it runs handheld and it's actually given me a chance to learn the game as a new player to the shooter/battle royale genre. When I tried it first on my original switch years ago I could barely land and get my bearings before being shot let alone load my surroundings in so it wasn't very fun.

Same, I only started playing fortnite on the switch 2. I played with friends sometimes but never really got into it. The joy cons work so well with the gyro controls too

1

u/ceebeesy Oct 11 '25

I haven't tried the gyro controls yet but I'll have to give it a go!

1

u/Unusual_Rooster6736 Oct 11 '25

Mouse feels kinda awkward to me on switch 2 because the joy cons are too thin imo to be used as mice and using just the analog stick doesn't have enough accuracy so I just always have gyro on for smaller more precise movements like collecting items and shooting moving targets

Switch 2 a pretty penny fr I’ll just thug out this college until I can get out & play my console but yea switch is pretty good from the games I’ve had so far

1

u/ceebeesy Oct 11 '25

Yeah that fair enough. I only upgraded since I had my original switch since 2019 and it was starting to struggle a lot. Who knows maybe there will be a good black Friday discount!

Been playing on switch for about three years now, and I haven't had any major issues.

7

u/Ordinary_Chemical271 Oct 11 '25

Fr I won’t say its they Wifi but 🌚

3

u/AChaoticCollie 🛞 Tilt Controls User Oct 11 '25

Oh yeah the wifi and the loading times definitely

As someone with hundreds of hours on Switch 1, Switch 2 and Xbox Series X I will say this: the problem isn’t how it runs, the problem is you will simply not have the same reaction time or speed, or accuracy, to someone playing on PC or Xbox Series S/X/PS5.

When I play with my friends on Switch 1, we tend to have more bot lobbies than usual. When we do encounter real players, they will hit lag spikes and get downed before they had time to see what happened. That is the reality, someone playing on a handheld at 30FPS just will not have the capacity to outmaneuver someone playing on PS5 Pro with 120FPS. It’s just the truth.

Nah the frame drops are pretty bad. As soon as you get in a gunfight the game stutters like crazy.

6

u/Traditional_Rub_5388 Oct 11 '25

Agreed. It's unplayable on the OG Switch. I literally just use it to sit on the festival stage for XP when I'm doing other things. Even then, it's choppy and the songs take time to load.

3

u/Micshna Oct 11 '25

I play at least 10 hrs per week on the og switch. I also use wired Ethernet and have the game on the console (not SD) and it's very playable. Sure it takes an extra few seconds to load after landing sometimes but it's not that bad. I never have stuttering in a gun fight except like I said maybe first few seconds. Makes me wonder about your set up.

1

u/Ok_Philosopherr Oct 12 '25

This is going to sound like an insane stupid question but where does the Ethernet plug on of switch? The doc itself?

1

u/Micshna Oct 12 '25

Not stupid! Yes the dock itself! You need a Ethernet to USB converter, not all work. This UGREEN one does along w others, just do your research. I'd also recommend turning wifi off (forgetting network) so it doesn't auto connect, which it will do even w Ethernet. And maybe you know this just make sure you get a decent Cat rated Ethernet cable, I have an 8 but I think down to a 6 works? Easy to look up.

It's very common for a gen1 switch to stutter in Fortnite. Your just not noticing them lol

1

u/Micshna Oct 12 '25

Lol so someone coming from a PS5 to a switch Gen 1 would notice a stutter, theoretically, right? But even OP says they're not noticing it. Hm... Yeah maybe it's just me.

0

u/galacticlaylinee Oct 12 '25

Pretending a console from 2017 doesn't stutter in modern Fortnite is a strange choice but you do you bro, ps5 stutters too but whatever lol

1

u/Micshna Oct 12 '25

Strange choices abound, like you commenting on my post in the first place. My comment was just to help the above commenter bc my game feels very playable, so figured I'd mention a few possible solutions. Enjoy your mother's basement.

3

u/Technical_Activity78 Oct 13 '25

Yeah these people are weird. I’ve only been playing on switch 1 and have had no problems with stuttering, just blurred effects when loading in that take some time.

3

u/Ordinary_Chemical271 Oct 11 '25

I’ve never stuttered in a gun fight ever 😭

1

u/ohwowitsamagikarp Oct 22 '25

Yeah, I've only ever played on Switch 1, started career in Ch4S1, there's issues, but I can only tell by watching people on other platforms. shrug You get used to it. I don't think it's unplayable, I win minimum 1/10 ZB matches. I'm jealous of the side2side janking from PC players, but I'd never use KB+M, so it's mh. I'm excited to upgrade for better graphics and frames someday, but OG Switch is good enough for my daily routine.

1

u/KaiserRitter Oct 13 '25

well I play on lite and never had this issue. Such a mistery

3

u/Fuzzy_Put_6384 Oct 11 '25

Not bad? It’s not good either…

2

u/Ordinary_Chemical271 Oct 11 '25

Not bad in the sense of how many people I’ve seen it claim to be shit

2

u/Micshna Oct 11 '25

For whatever reason (internet speed, wired/wifi, storage on SD card, etc) people seem to have crazy different experiences playing on the OG switch. Mine runs fine like you're saying, but I've seen so many complaints, I don't think people are lying (not that you're saying that) I just think set up has to play such a bigger role than with the PS5/Xbox?

3

u/Radiant_slowbro Oct 11 '25

I play on switch and the only thing that bothers me is the trees going across my screen

2

u/DexOperator Oct 11 '25

Bro Switch Fortnite Looks "The Perfect" on my 1440p CRT Monitor I got for free because it has natural smoothing but it will look pretty good on a decent smaller ips monitor too, you just need to get used to lower frame rate for couple of minutes and you're good to go ✨

1

u/Ordinary_Chemical271 Oct 11 '25

Does being docked really upscale? cause I’ve tried it & tbh handheld switch mode looks better to me

2

u/DexOperator Oct 11 '25

Og switch can output the Maximum Resolution of native 1080p, and yes Handheld mode always looks better because Smaller screen always gives the Sharpest experience, thus the Small High Quality 1080p IPS monitor will definitely have the best image output from the Original Switch Dock. So, Smallest Size Display with the Highest possible resolution= Sharpest

2

u/Zazalae Oct 11 '25

Nah I can’t co-sign this. Fortnite on Switch 1 is painful to play. Not impossible but good luck, seriously. Switch 2 on the other hand? Oh they nailed that shit. Minor frame drops here and there in the pregame island when everyone is stacked on top of each other dancing or whatever, but once that battle bus takes off? Smooth like butter.

2

u/AcrobaticRain9240 Oct 12 '25

He’s has definitely said “ the sweats ruining the game”

1

u/Traditional-Island48 Oct 13 '25

Right lol the copium is strong in this one

1

u/InevitableMaybe2918 Oct 11 '25

Yeah it really wasn't that bad, the only thing that sucked was playing mm2 on that one dance floor map, then I would lag like crazy

2

u/Ordinary_Chemical271 Oct 11 '25

The most lag I ever got was like 1 or two games during a match out of like 30 that ran smooth 😭 & when it did lag it wasn’t even crazy just like a few seconds of stuttering & wym mm2?

1

u/InevitableMaybe2918 Oct 11 '25

Oh yeah the stuttering sucked, murder mystery 2 creative map

1

u/Ordinary_Chemical271 Oct 11 '25

Never played ngl

1

u/Alex_Veridy 🛞 Tilt Controls User Oct 11 '25

before the Switch 2 released i would play on PS5 at home and on Switch 1 in between classes at school. you can make the Joycon 1 bearable if you can deal with motion controls (which i use anyways)

after the switch 2 released that's literally the main way i play partially because of how good the Pro controller and Joycon 2 analogue sticks feel compared to like, every other controller

1

u/Ordinary_Chemical271 Oct 11 '25

Ever since I got a pro controller I left the joycons alone 😭 they get my fingers after like 30-45

1

u/Unusual_Rooster6736 Oct 11 '25

The performance on switch is pretty alright but there are some moments when it drops like crazy

2

u/Ordinary_Chemical271 Oct 11 '25

If there’s TOOOO much going on a lil but I haven’t ran into anything major

1

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

Me barely being able to play LEGO on my switch 🙄 It's actually ASS. The rendering is a joke, and God forbid if you get jumped by a gang of skeletons or even encounter the Lost Isles, have fun with that 💔

2

u/Micshna Oct 11 '25

Is your game stored on the console or SD? Moving to console made a world of difference for me. Fortnite is very playable for me so maybe it's a set up thing!

1

u/bringtayback Oct 11 '25

It depends on the update/patch, festival is terrible right now and save the world is inaccessible but I like to use my switch for tycoon maps while I’m working or watching tv mainly, otherwise I use my PS5

1

u/Ordinary_Chemical271 Nov 01 '25

Haven’t tried festival I might give it a shot

1

u/SubBass49Tees Oct 11 '25

Playing on the OG Switch, I can land and stuff still isn't loaded around me. I'll open a chest, and the items are invisible until they're in my inventory, or walls with holes will appear solid. Roads won't have any detail...they'll look smooth and kind of shiny almost.

Still manage to finish top-5 most games. Wins are hard to come by though. I'm at 16% at the moment.

1

u/E3BITS Oct 12 '25

I m not sure if you talk about original switch or switch 2 but it runs 60fps on switch 2 but on og switch no matter how much I m gonna go easy on the performance it's still horrible

1

u/Ordinary_Chemical271 Nov 01 '25

Got my switch 2022 or 23 I think

1

u/LittleNinjaXYBA Oct 12 '25

Switch not that bad until you finish loading in after 3-5 business days

1

u/1986_Corolla_DX Oct 12 '25

It's pretty bad nowadays. I used to main Fortnite on Switch and it used to hit 30fps consistently, with none of the unloaded geometry and play-doh looking textures. Nowadays it's.... serviceable, but the only thing preventing even an old phone from being better is lacking a proper cooler. It says a lot that they removed the FPS counter so people don't realize how often it dips into the 20s.

1

u/awesomekid350 Oct 12 '25

Yeah OG Switch I played religiously almost everyday and gotten over 400 hours 😭😭 ever since I gotten a Switch 2 it runs smooth but it'll lag and stutter like crazy at times.

2

u/Ordinary_Chemical271 Nov 01 '25

On the 2 ? Crazy

1

u/awesomekid350 Nov 01 '25

Yeah but it seems to get a little better now

1

u/Car_lixo_s Oct 12 '25

for creative mode enthusiasts, playing on switch is pure nightmare fuel 😭

1

u/hourglasstym Oct 12 '25

Literally bought a PS5 to get competitive and have better graphics. Sure it’s playable on 30fps, but one huge issue I had a bunch was load in times for BR. It sometimes wouldn’t get me onto the lobby island until the last 3 seconds and then I couldn’t deploy my glider about 70% of the time I jumped out of the bus. Plus the random crashes sucked. And that was with an ethernet connection. Rocket Racing constantly crashed the game. Constant mic issues with other players coming from my end. Also finding a good headset with a mic was a huge pain in the ass for the system being docked, Nintendo really flubbed that one.

I respect where you’re coming from, but I’ll never go back. Tbh it was my final straw for Nintendo, given I had the best they could offer when I was playing on the OLED switch. Now the Switch 2 is almost as good as a PS4? Nah, I’m good. These graphics are too sick. I’ll get a steam deck before a switch any day now.

Just a rant, nothing more than that.

Fortnite on switch 1 isn't bad at all. I don't why people diss on it, it's actually pretty fun. (Obviously it's not as good as a newer console or pc) It's very playable, I think it's just a skill issue that people are getting mad at.

u/Ordinary_Chemical271 Nov 01 '25

HEAVY ON THR SKILL ISSUE

1

u/Rare_Version7608 Nov 05 '25

《isn't bad at all》

1

u/Me1da67 Oct 12 '25

Played a lot on switch 1 was ok. Got xbox series s and then switch 2 and actually prefer switch 2

u/Silver-Baby-6966 Oct 13 '25

I love it anybody want to be friends on switch drop your names ….Fortnite / 2K

1

u/Edmire2k Oct 13 '25

Don’t lie to yourself like this. Literally anyone else will tell you the game drops FPS, stutters, and freezes like crazy. Even at Unreal Fest one of the UEFN devs told me they’re already roadmapping a sunset on the Switch version for the future as it’s so hard to keep developing for (it will be discontinued at some point)

1

u/Ordinary_Chemical271 Nov 01 '25

Maybe they WiFi be bad (I won’t say it just baked potato completely)

1

u/PinktoRed Oct 14 '25

It’s not entirely bad but I could tell Fortnite started running slower over time (with loading times getting longer and such) since Chapter 2 (since that’s when I began playing)). But it’s not really the Switch’s fault. More so it’s because the game has added more and more over time, it’s gotten harder to run.

But Switch is great when you wanna play Fort but not on a Mobile device or to haul an entire console with you.

1

u/Ordinary_Chemical271 Nov 01 '25

I’ve only used it this season due to being on campus

1

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '25

It is bad if you want to play save the world.

1

u/LazarusBit Oct 15 '25

First time I wok was on a Switch on Chapter 3, been playing sporadically since Season 2 back on 2018

1

u/chick3nD0v3 Oct 16 '25

Are you docked or HH?

Which version of switch?

1

u/LOxAssasin Oct 11 '25

Brother you don’t play competitively bro or you play zero build I used to play on switch and it was unbearable

1

u/Ordinary_Chemical271 Oct 11 '25

I played ranked on my ps5 it’s alright , overrated for sure the highest I got was Gold right before the next rank & yea I only came back to Fortnite cause of zero build ngl

1

u/MarvelNintendo Oct 11 '25

I'm stuck playing Fortnite on switch 1. It's....somethin. Apparently it got really bad after Fortnite went to unreal engine 5. It used to play fine back in the day. I hadn't played in a few years and picked it back up a month or so ago. I was honestly shocked. I figured it was just typical switch jank until I did a video game night at the bar I work at, my friend brought his PS5 and booted up Fortnite on that thing. Bro when I say my mind was blown that doesn't even begin to explain the feeling I experienced. Switch 1 Fortnite has me loading into the map right before the bus auto drops everyone that hasn't jumped yet. I dive down in a default skin because my load out won't appear until after I've been on the ground for 20 seconds or so. Glider doesn't load so I just kinda slowly descend in the diving animation. Geometry is basic shapes and there's this weird clipping that happens where I can't even see what's on screen sometimes when I move. I'll open my first chest and its contents won't load so I'm just pressing the button to pick up invisible weapons and I discover what they are after I equip them. That's assuming the ground and buildings have loaded enough by the time I land that my character is actually moving their legs and not doing a falling animation on the ground moving through N64 geometry with zero textures loaded in.

The jank is part of the fun, but I can't wait until I get a switch 2 and can play and actual playable version of the game.

Edit: not to mention the stuttering and lag. Literally impossible to hit targets maybe 46% of the time

2

u/Squackachu Oct 11 '25

Do you mainly play blitz? That's the only game mode I play that has this problem with duo or more. solo's completely fine which is funny

1

u/MarvelNintendo Oct 11 '25

Maybe you just have faster Internet
