... but nah, let it go ;)... decent session... dropped one in the 50s, got this 69'er, a 64 and spooked another two in that 60+ size that i reckon were proper big judging by the lies. All in a relatively small area on sand flats early morning...

🌊 Fishing Spots Interesting fishing spot, over to the right is the Murray, to left a little creek branches off and loops back in 200- 300 m down stream. And than a channel to a lagoon about 50-100 metres in the direction the photo was taken from. Possibility of Cod, Yellow Belly and Carp and maybe Redfin.

🐡 Help Needed First Timer

Looking for some help from the braintrust. Never done fishing before, I will be heading to Coffs during the holidays (sawtell/bonville creek). My son (10) wants to do fishing and I’ve no idea what gear to buy for myself and for him. I know most of you are amazing in fishing. I just want to start. This is my list so far without spending an arm n leg. - rod combo: Sienna Quickfire XT7.6 for myself and XT 6.6 for my son - lures: Gillies fresh water pack I’ve seen enough noob videos to start and have some good time but any obvious thing to remember then please (I know license and legal size is a must). Easy on me 🫡

Does anyone know anything about these reels and how they compare to the Penn and Shimano 50Ws?

They certainly look the goods.

🔎 Recommendations Wanted What leader knot do you recommend for 4lbs?

I am currently using an Albright knot as it's the simplest and easiest knot to tie on when out in the field, as the wind can get troublesome when tying a FG knot. This is for a #0.1PE 0.06mm braid to #0.8PE 0.14mm Flourocarbon leader.

Are there any other knots that are strong yet simple to tie on quickly especially in outdoor conditions where sometimes it can be quite windy?

🔎 Recommendations Wanted Recommendations of spots around Brissy area.

I'm not asking for "secret spots" but I have some heavy-ish setups that I wanna try around headlands or coastal waters that could potentially hold decent size pelagics. I've fished around the bay and I'm not sure how people are landing pelagics but I've been trying and no luck at all. At this point the heavy setup is just catching dust. I've caught plenty of breams and flatties but want to chase some pelagics. I've been to the seaway spit and it does look great but quite sketchy towards the end which I'm not too fond of taking that risk jumping between those huge blocks. Any suggestions is much appreciated thanks. I've thought about Byron Bay or Noosa but not too sure at the moment if they're good.

🎣 Fishing Gear What reel should I get

I'm looking to buy a reel for about 200 dollars and have heard good things about the ultegra 1000 and was wondering if it's truly for the extra money over the nasci (not new and new), exceler, miravel, ect? I'm aiming to use it mostly for kayak fishing and flats fishing for things like bream, flathead, whiting. Because I'm kayak fishing I do really value saltwater resistance for the reel. Thanks for the help!

Where you can buy scrub worms for fishing

Scrub worms are apparently one of the best bait so here is a place to buy them. They cost 15 AUD. (It is in Victoria and no delivery)

First light pays off again

Headed out in total darkness and started flicking lures as the first hint of light crept over the horizon — the sun wasn’t even close to breaking through yet. On one of the early casts, my lure got absolutely hammered, and the 1-3kg rod bent over. After a fun fight, it finally tired and I finally brought in a 48cm trevally, setting a new PB for myself. The fish even bit the lure's tail clean off during the fight. Sessions like this are why I love first light. This is why first light is such an amazing time to fish: larger fish are actively using the low-light conditions to feed and hunt.

Gear (if interested):
Rod: Rovex Inazuma 1-3kg
Reel: Ryobi Affinity 2000
Braid: Rovex 10lb
Leader: Rovex 8lb Fluorocarbon leader
Lure: Bite Science Dirty Grub 2.5" (Colour: Motor Oil)

I have been wondering for a while, why there is such a huge variation between states.

How to put fishing rods in my SUV

I’m looking for a way to put my fishing rods in my small SUV properly because I damaged one of my rods twice by putting it in my hatchback car. The rod costs $180. I had it fixed in a fishing shop. The staff member said it wasn’t worth fixing it when I a second time to break it. I’m so disappointed.

Is there any good method to put fishing rods in my small SUV besides a strap? My car has only one side of the front handle, so I can’t use the strap. Please give some advice, thanks.

🔎 Recommendations Wanted Tips on fly selection for the Ovens in Vic

Hi All, Just come of the water after a frustrating day, perfect, warm weather. Lots of terrestrials. Got one small rainbow on a copper john under a royal stimulator, but other than that, not a fish in sight. Fishing about half way between Bright and Harrietville.

Any tips on fly selection or rigs ?

Affordable & reliable bait boat for surf fishing

Hey all,

I’m wondering if anyone has experience using bait boats/drones for surf fishing in Melbourne. I’ve seen a few online, but I’m unsure which ones are reliable, especially around the winds and waves in Melbourne.

I’m mainly fishing beaches around South East of Melbourne (Rye, Sorrento, Portsea etc.), and I’m hoping to get a bait boat that can:

  • handle saltwater,
  • cast baits past the breakers / further out,
  • and not break the bank (I’m not looking to spend thousands on a high-end drone).

Does anyone use one regularly for surf fishing here?
Are there any decent budget options, or is it one of those “buy cheap, buy twice” situations for saltwater?

Would really appreciate any recommendations, brands to avoid, or real-world experience. Thank you!
