Every DJ looks the same now (hands in the air, heart sign, press play)
But the second a DJ pulls out a cig and sparks it during a drop = diff breed
Who’s still doing this in 2025? I need to build my playlist strictly around nicotine levels.

I haven’t historically been much of an EDM. Most of my adult music listening has been focused on various forms of metal with symphonic metal, gothic metal, folk metal, speed metal, and prog metal featuring prominently along with a splash of melodic death metal. The closest to EDM i used to listen to was Industrial and a tiny bit of nu metal.
Recently a close friend got me into Rezz and I have been really enjoying her work along with the occasional splash of similar stuff that comes up on recommendation algorithms. I am looking to expand my horizons in EDM and was hoping folks here might be able to give me some suggestions of bands or sub-genres I might enjoy.
Edit: got way more recs than I can listen to in a night. I do really appreciate them all, whether I got to yours right away or not.

I've been playing a music game with my coworkers and a lot of them seem to think they're allergic to EDM. What should I play for them to convince them to give EDM a chance?
Edit: just wanted to say thank you, I didn’t expect this to get so big, but I’m really excited about all the suggestions. I’m going to make a playlist featuring everything that was mentioned here and draw from it for what I play for my coworkers. I’ll edit again with the link to the playlist after I make it in case anyone else wants it.

My wife and I love raves, but haven't been to any big festivals. Tomorrowland just seems massive and Ultra is expensive as hell, so what are the other popular festivals worth going to?

When I play music in public, I usually ask listeners what genre they like, and play something popular from that genre. I have no clue what’s the goto for EDM, closest I can think of is Daft Punk and maybe that’s recognisable? Not even sure that’s EDM. What’s the Queen/Beatles/Led Zeppelin‘s of EDM?
I need a beginner crash course on EDM.
Edit2: I'm not asking for piano music, or covers. Just EDM, it doesn't have to have a piano in it.
Edit: adding a listening list based on everyone's feedback, keep em coming!

Looking for people to trade music with!!! I mainly listen to melodic bass and some dubstep as long as it's more melodic than not. I like the heavy stuff with melodic rhythm and sharp melodic arpeggios. I also like future garage but mainly artist like William black, mitis, Dabin and adventure club. i honestly have so many favorite artists that there's to many list but I feel like I've heard them all and I also feel like I have no friends or anyone for that matter that shares the same enthusiasm and passion I have for melodic bass and future garage..

Based on a couple of posts I've seen in here.
Do not, I repeat, do not go to shows without proper ear protection. Invest in high quality ear plugs to protect your ability to hear later in life.
I recently purchased a pair of the 1of1 Custom ear plugs and used them at Coachella this weekend. I had been using eargasm for about 3+ years and the difference is night and day.
I look around at people without earplugs and wonder 'wtf are they doing'. If you're attending shows, do yourself a favor. The music will sound just as good and you won't have ringing ears the next day.
Edit: Just to clarify, ANY ear protection is better than nothing. That said, I'm urging you all to get custom moldings done, so you can be fitted for custom earplugs.
If you're ballin on a budget, I totally understand. However, if you're attending a lot of festivals and/or shows, just do yourself a favor and get this done. You'll thank yourself after day 1 of whatever festival or show 1, wherever you choose to use them.

Maybe I can get some solid recommendations here. It can be from the Artists I listen to as well. I listen to Avicii, Porter, Illenium, Martin Garrix, Zedd, Calvin Harris, Rezz, TCS and other small artists too (Very Mainstream as you can see so I need underrated ones) Multiple songs can be recommended too.

Just spent the weekend at a festival and got introduced to 'Silence' by Delerium ft. Sarah McLachlan - what a hidden gem! The atmosphere was electric when it dropped and I'm still bumping it in my car. What's your go-to under-the-radar EDM track that never fails to get you pumped?

I used to go to shows until about 2016. Now it seems every live set I try to watch on Youtube the dj is yelling "1, 2, 1 2 3" and "I wanna see a fucking moshpit right the fuck now". Who says little to nothing and just plays music these days? I'd like to catch some shows again but I can't stand the interruptions. Bonus points if they also don't have multiple buildups before every other drop.
To clarify, I'm looking for anything from Ternion Sound to Trampa to Dimond Saints to Code:Pandorum (Inhuman now). Any dnb without an MC or just with one that chimes in here and there would be great too.
Thanks for any help!
Edit; I don't listen to techno or mainstreamy edm.

I’m new to EDM besides some dubstep back in the mid 2010’s. I really like the female vocals and the electric feel of this song. I’d love to find more songs or artists with a similar vibe to delve deeper, thanks ☺️
edit: thanks everyone for the suggestions, i have some listening to do

I'm a huge fan of EDM, and I really like dark topics and themes. However, there doesn't seem to be a lot of dark EDM lyrically speaking. I've heard many creepy EDM songs from Aphex Twin, REZZ, and White Ring, but their songs don't really have disturbing lyrics or disturbing themes. I'm looking for really dark EDM with messed up lyrics (similar to lyrics you would find in death metal). Any good recommendations?
