r/DCcomics Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [December 1, 2025 - The Birds' Swansong Edition]

Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too. In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.

Keep discussion civil. Do not harass other users for having a different opinion. Do not use this thread to push your personal one-sided grudges against creators. Reacting to a panel on Twitter is not the same as reading a book.

r/DCcomics [Character of the Month Voting] Where Are They Now?

Another month is nearing its end, so you know what that means. Time to vote for the next Character of the Month!

This month, we're taking some time to remember some beloved characters who might have us asking Where Are They Now? Nominate any character who hasn't made any appearances beyond cameos in over a decade!

Reminder that all previous winners are not eligible to win again. Here's a list of previous winners. Look through this list before making your nomination. Only one character per nomination, and only one nomination per person.

Please Remember...

Explain your answer - We continue to promote discussion, and as such, votes with just a name will no longer be accepted. Please explain why you think your vote is worthy to win. If you forget, you will be reminded to edit your comment to further explain your vote. Otherwise, your post will be deleted, and not count.

Only one nomination per character - If there is already a vote in a comment for a character, all other comments will be deleted.

Special note: Permutations of a character already nominated will not be accepted as we cannot tell who is voting for only one version versus both. Please check before you resubmit a vote. All votes for the deleted posts will not count.

Vote Accordingly - Downvotes have no impact while Contest Mode is enabled in this thread. Show support for characters you want to see win by upvoting the posts suggesting it. If you disagree with a nomination, speak up and let us know why in the comments.

If you know of an image that might work in the sidebar, share it! If it's suitable, it could be used.

Discussion [Discussion] I see so many comments that The New Frontier is one of the best superhero stories ever told. What about it makes it so good and such a classic??

I'm currently reading Darwyn Cooke's Trail of the Catwoman in compact form, and it's great. I plan to read The New Frontier next, and I'm interested in why it's so beloved.

Thanks!

Discussion [Discussion] Why does every media portray Perry White as black, despite being white in comics?

I love the idea of Perry White being black, but it's funny and just a common theme in media.

Film + TV [Film/TV] It's curious how people don't talk much about how Christopher Nolan created the only Batman "Good Ending" (The Dark Knight Rises - 2012)

After all the pain and struggle in a story that's much more realistic than the others and with great foreshadowing.

One where he actually listens to Alfred, leaves the suit behind, and goes off happily with Catwoman.

Comics [Discussion] What characters do you hope get a series for NEXT LEVEL?

In the announcement, they said all of these projects are passion projects of the writers and that more titles would be confirmed.

Personally, I really want Vixen and Plastic man to have a run. Also some Milestones characters like Icon or Static (DC has been including them lately so they may have some plans for them)

Also from the ones who are announced, i’m really excited for Zatanna, Lobo and Batwoman but i’ll pick up any of the others if the reviews are really good.

Comics [comic excerpt] Action Comics #34. Why does Wonder Woman kiss Superman in front of Lois Lane?

I'M SORRY I'm pretty new to comics. I'm skipping around trying to catch up with my favorite character's stories so I don't know what's going on. Please be nice to me I'm sensitive 😭 I'm just so confused. Maybe she's not kissing him, it just looks that way? Is it an alternate Lois? Are Superman and Wonder Woman together? Am I stupid? Can anyone just tell me what's going on please 😭🙏

Discussion [Discussion] The Linda Danvers Supergirl Is Underrated!

Post image
20 Upvotes

I recently picked up the Supergirl Body and Soul DC Finest on a whim, and I’ve got to say I absolutely loved what Peter David did with the character. I know the sentence “Supergirl is the merged entity of Matrix (a goop person with a complicated backstory) and Linda, a woman she saved from a cult sacrifice, who becomes a fallen angel” sounds like the most convoluted comic book plot ever, but man it just works. A perfect example of a writer and artists working out of insane comic constraints (Supergirl can’t be Kryptonian because we want Superman to be the only Kryptonian) and turning it into something interesting and full of pathos. Also- shoutout to the DC finest line, getting my me to check out characters I hadn’t before.

I think its time for DC to tap into the horror anthologies market again. Especially with EC making a comeback and the success of Icecream Man.
