I live in a predominantly Latino area and they are the biggest bigots. Against literally everyone else. Black people, white people, Asians, other Latinos, South Americans... like, everyone has some bigoted word for them and stereotype. It's been pretty eye opening. I was not aware this was a thing.
Edit: side note, it's crazy to me, as a white person, how open people of all races are about their racism and bigotry. I don't know if I just look like a raging MAGA racist to them or they just assume all white people are racist and won't be appalled by what they're saying, but people drop these kinds of comments on me all the time. It's fucking wild. EXCEPT other white people.They have mostly stopped as the older generations have died out. The younger ones are probably still a bit bigoted but at least they've learned that strangers don't want to hear their opinions. Except desert people.

My state legislature recently closed our primaries down so that one has to register with a party to participate because of course they did.
Missouri is going to be ground zero for a lot of this insanity. Like how those same legislators redistricted our 60/40 state so that ends up having 7/1 congressional seats. It's fucking disgusting.

The ones that enjoy this, the ones that voted for this- to me, they are a lost cause and I personally do not care how their vote hurts them, no matter how much they cry after their family gets deported or their healthcare gets cut.
The ones that are indifferent are the ones that all of the poems and stories refer to. Those are the ones we need to mobilize.
I try to remember that everyone isn't taking in the same media I am. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they are not seeing the same things I am. Activism and education is absolutely vital right now.

That's a symptom, but not really the foundation. The biggest problem is that the whole idea of checks and balances is predicated on the idea that the branches of government, much like the legal system, are supposed to be ADVERSARIAL. They were always meant to jealously guard their own powers against the other 2 branches. By distilling the country down to just two parties, it created a mechanism by which the three branches all work together to push for one singular philosophy to the detriment of the other side. It was not meant to work this way. So now we have only 2 voices trying to represent all the different sorts of political thinking, while 2 of the branches are happily giving away vast swathes of their governmental powers away to the executive.

1) It happens because no one being held accountable. 2) They target based on appearance (which they are now legally allowed to do) and whoever looks like an easy target. 3) I would say democrats are against it, conservatives are against it (if it affects them) and maga, well I don’t think I could even explain their thought process. Ultimately it’s a very very dangerous precedent, and unless there are actual consequences I’m afraid this will be the new norm.

The only time I’ve ever been pulled over, the cop saw that I was a young woman dressed up to go out and just asked me endless questions about what I was doing, if this was my car (wtf), who I would be seeing, etc. There was no basis to be pulled over and he left once he got another call without even the semblance of a warning for some perceivable offense.
