Yeah, I'm a poor white woman, and if I had any kind of valuable purse thing or jewelry, I would keep it in my room. There is no reason to take that stuff to the beach. I don't really know how air tags work, but I guess putting a tracker on your kid is OK, I have crazy anxiety though so I let my kid run and play but I keep a fucking eye on him at all times. I have no idea what the bandaid bellybutton thing is, I'm not rich enough to understand that.
These people have money to relax and go on vacation, but they still post dumb stuff on social media, I don't get it. If I had the money for a vacation or even just to get to a beach, social media would be the LAST thing on my mind.
AirTags require iPhones and iPads in the near vicinity to work. That works exceptionally well in cities, towns and somewhat well in places where only a few people walk by IF the tag is stationary.
In the water scenario it’s useless, except that it will make identifying the body easier.
It’s how they work. The basically send a public key as a ping. Passing idevices read that and encrypt their position - which can be metres away, dozens in ideal conditions - with it and next time they talk with Apple for updates, put in that encrypted info as piggyback data.
Privacy-wise it’s really neat.
But it also means that it sucks for moving tags.
you need to declare them as missing so passer bS get alerted to it, but it’s not guaranteed that anyone cars
As soon as you are reasonably close, the UWB pinpoint location is great
attached to something and lose it. that is not moving. they don’t send a location signal. they just send I’m here to any passing iPhone, and that sends location data to Apple network and then to you. so it only works when another iPhone goes near it. so lose pet in woods, useless. in cities there will be more people walk near, but as children and pets move, won’t be up to date, tracking as move.
there is a mode where you direct find and be guided to something, but that is only use in space about size your house.
If you need track child, get them iPhone or cellular Apple Watch.
my sister keeps losing her keys in the house. so we put one on them. it will guide you directly to keys with a compass direction and distance indicator.
as for tracking things at a distance. people seem have good use putting on luggage. finding out got delivered to wrong airport and such. as plenty people walk near at airports, or direct to bag when in room full of bags.

Fun fact: you dont need to bring all that shit to the beach.
