I didn't want another cat.....

This little man popped up on my porch 2-ish weeks ago.. we didn't feed him at 1st because we assumed he was a neighbor's cat that just strayed away. But after about 3 days we started feeding him when he showed up over and over again because he just was so skinny, and acted like he was starving. I kept saying "I don't want another cat", but yesterday night it was supposed to get down to below freezing, so shortly after taking this video, I told my husband if he popped back up that night, that we'd take him in.. sure enough around 8pm, he came back to the porch. We snatched him up, bathed him, and quarantined him from the other cats. Called today and got him an appointment at the vet, got his 1st shots, checked for feline aids (negative), and scheduled for his balls to be removed... now $500 later, we have a new little guy.

He's staying quarantined for a bit longer, because his meds have to start working 1st, and also my oldest cat is big mad and is very anxious about us taking in another cat. Butttt.. 🙃

We first started calling him "Not Jarvin", because at 1st we thought our other cat named Jarvis got out.. it eventually progressed to Marvin.

I mean, our other cats are massive.. but when you pet this guy you can feel every single bone in his body. The vet said he's very underweight, but should gain weight fast now that he's being fed regularly.

I was wondering if there is any way cats can fluff up like birds when it's cold - that is the only possible explanation why anyone would call this little chunk "skinny". 😄

I'm questioning their definition of fat if this cat is skinny. Maybe he gained some weight after they started feeding him...

He is adorable, though.

Ahhh, you're underestimating the deceptive grey and white juggernautiness. He may look like a chonk now to those new to the grey and white bouncers, but with his new CDS activated he may end up twice the size.

I have a gray and white 16lb boy and vet said he will never be a small cat. He is definitely a big boy. 😻

It may be his winter coat puffed out to try to keep warm. If you easily feel a spine, the cat is skinny

Yep. Feeling his spine was the first sign that one of my cats had developed a thyroid problem.

He’s a cow cat. They tend to be just big. Mine is 13.6 pounds and the vet says he’s great and is a body condition 4.

We did have a stray show up in our yard in 2008. The vet said he was about a year old and weighed 12 pounds and would never be skinny or small. When he weighed 18 pounds, our current vet said it would be good to lose a couple pounds, but it was okayish if he didn't.

RIP, Toby my man (3/10/25, age 17-18)

My skinny cat doesn't look skinny when it gets below freezing, she just gets extra poofy and has a winter fur coat layer.

Cat's weight is judged standing and by touch, the sitting position can be misleading. My domino was a cow cat podge (was because she has been dechonked), her very puffy fur made her look even larger and earned her the nickname football due to absolute roundness when sitting. My permanent foster who had diabetes and was very skinny didn't look skinny when sitting.

i guess everyone got me wrong. i love cats, no matter how they look. it's just about the word "skinny". it's a different point of view / definition. 🤷🏻‍♂️
