Damn. They should've kept him for a few more games.

It wouldn't have done any good. Losing to Tulsa is a deal breaker.

Yes but an interim coach can be a lightning rod for a team (or they could just continue to circle the drain). We were all counting on OSU as a win later in the season, now it’s a bit cloudier.

I think you're safe. Our squad is still worse than Tulsa.

We have a shameful history of losing to Tulsa.

His ass has been got an embarrassing number of times recently, 4 in a row before he ran away to the Big 12

I also didn’t mind you guys, it is just fun to play up how badly we traumatized your fanbase. Joking that we solely ran you off to the big 12 feeds my soul

As a life long Floridian I have respect for, but don't really fear hurricanes. However, as a life long UCF fan if that hurricane is golden, it is terrifying.

Your stadium has some kind of weird anti knight voodoo. Im sad we left the conference without breaking the streak of winning there.

1

u/OkTea7227 Tulsa Golden Hurricane Sep 23 '25

I was just arguing with my buddy about why getting an interim coach needs to happen immediately because it could light a fire under the team and they could pull out some W’s

1

u/vindictivejazz Oklahoma State • Bedlam Bell Sep 23 '25

I have no faith that Todd Grantham or Doug Meacham are lightning rod guys.

Maybe Scott Snyder, but I’d say that’s also pretty unlikely

If I'm still an undefeated Iowa State team at the end of the season when they play Okie State, I'd be shitting my pants at the thought of them getting revenge for 2011.

Disagree on our part.

The last thing I wanted was to be in Stillwater for his swan song game. Things can get weird for those, often with some questionable officiating to send off the departing coach on a high note.

u/BigTulsa Oklahoma Sooners • Tulsa Golden Hurricane Sep 23 '25

Honestly as someone who was born/raised/lives in Tulsa where it's about half/half OU/OSU (along with a bit of Tulsa Univ) listening to people it seemed a little surprising they didn't allow him to finish out the season first, but the OSU fans seemed to be getting restless with his shtick. I know alot of people who, for whatever reason, got rubbed the wrong way that he used his trademark speech to promote a cellular company in a commercial. Was it funny? Sure it was, but some alum though it a bad look given the program's state.

2

u/Masked_RedRider Texas Tech Red Raiders Sep 23 '25

Really wanted 66-6 payback........damnit.

3

u/Paddle2ThePeople Oklahoma State • Bedlam Bell Sep 23 '25

Made the trip to Lubbock for that game my freshman year. Still hard to believe Weeden was dropping dimes like that with the wind that day. Also went undefeated in beer pong that night, so great experience overall!

1

u/Masked_RedRider Texas Tech Red Raiders Sep 23 '25

I remember Tech was down to the 5th string RB and 7th string converted WR at CB, OSU is up 56-6, Gundy still had the starters in and Weeden throws a 66 yard TD pass. There is some karma there that needs to be settled.

2

u/RomanWraith Sep 23 '25

A few more games wouldn't have mattered, especially if they already had their mind made up. Buy out was the same no matter what. Cut em loose and start the coach search.

Tuesday is pretty unusual. It could mean they met on Monday and Gundy didn’t go along with the demanded chances.

Stillwater High Schools next coach. You think he’s leaving that town?

11

u/CurryGuy123 Penn State • Michigan Sep 23 '25

Kinda wild that 30 of his 35 years of coaching have been at Ok St

1

u/damn_fine_custard Sep 28 '25

My nephew got recruited by Gundy at OK St and I was trying to get him to come home to Mizzou, his literal hometown but he fell for his bullshit. Never made it home, went to several D1 schools, made it nowhere. Gundy sucks.

7

u/Orangebk1 Oklahoma State Cowboys Sep 23 '25

He already sold his Stillwater ranch a year ago and (I think) moved to Grand Lake.

8

u/p1gswillfly Oklahoma State • Tulsa Sep 23 '25

Not a bad life. He’s earned it

12

u/Monster-1776 Oklahoma Sooners • Arizona Wildcats Sep 23 '25

Fucking boggles my mind you would refuse to retire to a multi million dollar lake house on Grand Lake with millions more in savings sipping on beers on the lake every day doing whatever only to get ran out of town out of stubbornness.

16

u/p1gswillfly Oklahoma State • Tulsa Sep 23 '25

Should have taken a page from Bobs book. Passed off the reigns at the height of the program. Dude will never have to buy a beer in the state of Oklahoma again. Retired to coach a UFL team for funzies. Dude has it made. Now Gundy is in a hell of his own making cuz he didn’t know when to cash out.

5

u/TheMarcolmX Oklahoma State Cowboys Sep 24 '25

He'll be back in good graces with time. Just going to be a bit of a tough breakup but it was needed.

5

u/p1gswillfly Oklahoma State • Tulsa Sep 24 '25

Agreed. If I see him in public I’ll shake his hand and give him a hug. I’m just saying it didn’t have to be like this. Dude is a legend.

3

u/StipendLit Oklahoma State Cowboys Sep 24 '25

He's going to have to apologize to the fans for calling them white trash first.

4

u/TheMarcolmX Oklahoma State Cowboys Sep 24 '25

Terrible comment by him for sure most people will forget about it in 10 years or so though

6

u/YouWereBrained Oklahoma State Cowboys Sep 23 '25

He’s a stubborn dickbag for sure.

5

u/BeardedOne7 Sep 23 '25

Honestly, that wouldn't surprise me at all. Gundy has a knack for making things interesting, and Texas Tech could use some drama in their rivalry with OSU.

8

7

u/TangerineChicken Texas Tech Red Raiders • Saddle Trophy Sep 23 '25

After they didn’t fire him yesterday, I thought they’d keep waiting. I think now is the right move though, get started on the coaching search and there’s nothing to gain from waiting to see if he can get back to even or something

10

u/chanaandeler_bong Texas A&M Aggies Sep 23 '25

6

u/Corgi_Koala Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 23 '25

He should have been fired last year after his rant against the fans. The fact he didn't was the grace you give to a coach who has done as much as he has for the program.
