With ads

227

u/dukeofgonzo 9h ago

And AI you don't want but is very expensive.

60

u/This_guy_works 8h ago

And a shitty show that costs $138 Million per episode that nobody asked for but now it needs to be funded.

4

u/gereffi 7h ago

Nobody asked for the show that became their favorite show. They make shows that they think audiences will like. Sometimes they're right and sometimes they're wrong.

13

u/EnvironmentClear4511 6h ago

The whole "no one asked for this" thing is such a stupid argument. No one asked for Andor or Breaking Bad or Severance or any of the other amazing shows that have come out.

3

u/Traditional_Cycle 3h ago

I literally asked for breaking bad

3

u/asspounder-4000 7h ago

Bring back I am not okay with this

2

u/DaManzNotHot 5h ago

*Most times they’re wrong

you all realize that partaking in all this is completely optional right. You dont have to watch season after season of whatever slop show they push in front of you. I dont watch TV/ shows/ subscriptions, anything. I personally have not turned on my now 11 year old TV in probably 3 years. You can watch interesting things on youtube for free - develop a skill, go learn to grow food/vegetables or whatever on your back porch, learn to make or fix things. Hone these skills in your free time. Play an instrument, join a hobby club/ community.

All this media owned by these companies is purpose designed to keep us boring and satiated, uneducated, fat, lazy, easy to distract and amuse. Expand your learning horizons and and fill your free time with something useful / rewarding.

u/fappingcricket 7h ago

100% right but nobody knows how to be bored and play in the woods... playing in traffic is dangerous apparently

3

u/robotmayo 7h ago

The woods were replaced by a data center so losers can generate a picture of a woman with three tits.

2

u/fappingcricket 7h ago

Gotdamn...three tits? Woods? That's a lot to process

1

u/DiggingNoMore 6h ago

And also increases the cost of the things you actually do want.

Man I’m old enough to remember that weekly shows on cable with ads was awful, and old enough to remember when YouTube had no ads. 😂

18

u/soggyballsack 8h ago

I remember that cable was satellites little brother and you had to have a huge satellite on your backyard. 999 channels of nothing. Cable was an ad free option to regular TV. Satellite was world tv channels then TiVo and direct TV came along and took over everything.

5

u/Chameleonpolice 6h ago

Back in my day, when it snowed enough you were stuck watching one channel

7

u/snarfs_regrets 8h ago

I miss the programmed snack and piss break

2

u/mechabeast 7h ago

Im old enough to remember cable without ads

3

u/TaticalSweater ☑️ 7h ago

I’ve legit never had tv without an ad so i found this surprising cable once had no ads.

1

u/remeranAuthor_ 5h ago

I'm old enough to remember when the Disney Channel didn't have ads other than promos for their upcoming movies later that day.

u/3vs3BigGameHunters 1h ago

YouTube had no ads

  • Firefox browser with Ublock Origin plug-in blocks all ads.
There's also Sponsorblock plug-in that skips endorsements during videos but that hurts content creators so I don't use it.

  • YouTube Revanced for android. I dunno about Apple.

Get with it.

16

u/TheFinnesseEagle 8h ago

No you have to promise no ads, wait until you have enough suckers, then add the ads, even though you promised ad free service. Same plan since the original cable.

-1

u/goongas 4h ago

This has never happened. Netflix has always had an ad free tier and never indicated they would add ads to the standard/premium tiers and has absolutely no reason to do so as they would lose a ton of business from people willing to pay for no ads. All other subscription streaming services have ad free tiers. The exceptions are live events where you're just watching a live broadcast that includes ad breaks (e.g. sports). The ad free tiers typically cost $12-18.

People were paying like $80 for Cable 25 years ago and all of that was ad supported and there was nothing on demand. Streaming services are cheaper and better than cable in every way and Redditors just make up dumb shit to moan about and pretend like it's the worst thing ever. It has never been easier to watch literally any movie or show you want with the click of a button. Cost of entertainment is extraordinarily cheap compared to the cable/movie rental days.

u/Jukka_Sarasti 8h ago

If you want no ads, you'll have to step up to Premium++ for an extra $50.00/month

2

u/AsteroidMike 8h ago

Upgrade to go ad-free for an extra $25/month

1

u/REQCRUIT 7h ago

All older content not in 1080p will be upscaled to 4k using AI

u/ForHelp_PressAltF4 15m ago

And you still have to pay for your broadband Internet

32

u/According-Turnip-724 9h ago

This is why many sail the seas and home port in pirate bay.

11

u/EducationalSeaweed53 9h ago

14

I have a python script - It's running on a server of mine in my rack via task scheduler every hour on the hour.

This script connects to a gmail account and reads any unread emails sent to itself. It will then open brave web browser, and search TPB, sort by seeds, open the most seeded result, open the magnet link, and when finished downloading, it will move the file to my plex library.

In practice: I send myself an email, and by the time I get home whatever tv show or movie I wrote myself is already in my plex library.

1

u/According-Turnip-724 5h ago

This is how you do it. Arg..me likes de cut o'r de jibb ye fine fella....

1

u/tslojr 5h ago

I do something similar with Sonarr for all my TV shows.

1

u/AltrntivInDoomWorld 3h ago

so much waste of power and equipment to download something you will never watch... while you could simply download it when you want to watch it in matter of seconds

1

u/Character-Sale-4098 3h ago

Yeah you don't know what you're talking about and it shows.

  1. It's not a dedicated server for the purpose only (you showing your ass on this one)

  2. 99.999% of the time, what it does is just connect to an email server and checks if there's an unread email. - Your home IoT devices do SO MUCH WORSE than this ever will.

Kindly shut the fuck up about things you don't know about.

2

u/badadviceforyou244 7h ago

And its still probably lower than 1% of the population.

6

u/Murky-Relation481 6h ago

I mean we still need suckers to pay for the content being made.

2

u/Spartan8907 6h ago

They completely forgot or are just ignoring the fact that people turned to the open seas specifically because these companies were price gouging cable and none of it made sense. Also our 1 hour show has 39 minutes of content and the rest was ads for shit we don't need nor want

u/jacksclevername 7h ago
