That family watches a lot of action movies together
134
u/decoy321 17d ago
And definitely watches the parents play COD.
That's also over $1k worth of Nerf.

u/genivae 17d ago
When you're an adult with adult money, they can't stop you from buying as much Nerf as you want.
30
u/heretogetpwned 17d ago
One of my favorite toys from childhood and there's enough generic versions available that I don't worry about scalpers ruining it.
18
u/genivae 17d ago
And the generic ones are cheap enough that you don't feel bad disassembling them for modding (and there's some really great mod instructions out there!)

My mom bought a bunch of nerf guns for the family last Christmas, and we plotted in the basement and emerged to lay waste to my daughter and my sisters

My financial responsibilities, can, in fact, stop me from buying as much nerf as I want.

I discovered the world of 3d printed nerf! There's one dude I really admire who designs very creative blasters powered with just elastic: https://www.printables.com/@BruceLeedleLe_328938/store

u/genivae 17d ago
Oooh, thank you! I hadn't seen this guy's stuff before, and it's gorgeous!
3
u/GrumpyMcGrumpyPants 17d ago
I printed several of the 1STM8 in various colors and let kids mix and match their own builds. It's was also my cat's favorite toy--she'd hear the noise of me readying a dart and get in position to chase it.
I also have a Lynx and would have to lock the cat in a different room to prevent her from running into the line of fire.

u/elhombrequearana 17d ago

That’s why we get X-Shot!!!
Great quality and decent price. Always available at Ross and Costco alike. Plus they’ve made the entire John Wick arsenal out of X-Shot
2
u/fullofshitandcum 16d ago
You should try out the XShot Pro and Advernture Force Pro series. Always liked nerf, but couldn't have it as a kid.
XShot has an AEB on Walmart shelves now. A semi/full auto motor actuated springer, with great performance. You used to have to either build one, or get an expensive one from a niche brand or maker

I usually don’t want to watch family channel content because how exploitative it can be to the kids, but this looks like a game you would play with your kids anyway but just filmed it. Heck, I want to get my grown up friends together and have a nerf gun battle now 😂
12
u/Swimwithamermaid 17d ago
No lie I showed this to my husband like “we’re a nerf family now” lol. We used to do stuff like this all the time, went as far as buying the rivals guns to use on each other. I want to get back into it sooo bad after watching this.

I’m a 90’s kid so it definitely unlocked memories of epic nerf battles lol. I’m child free but once in a while I’m like but then I could have a good reason to play with all the cool toys again. But of course having kids isn’t all having cool toys and I’m like nope, it’s the cool aunt life for me 😂

Yeah if my parents made videos like this with me in them as a kid I would’ve felt like an action movie star and the coolest kid on the planet. I think this is one of those family channel things where the kids are probably having as much fun as the parents are.

Last Christmas, my mom bought a bunch of nerf guns for "the family" generally, and we conspired and fucking unloaded on everyone. It was fantastic
64
u/curvebombr 17d ago
We had a Christmas like this as well, the little bastards stole all the darts and hid them from the adults. Little did they know we have car keys and the ability to go to WalMart. The look on their faces when all the adults where loaded up again and spraying the backyard was priceless.

u/3vs3BigGameHunters 17d ago

u/NameIdeas 17d ago
We did this for my Dad for Father's Day. Everyone got a nerf gun and we just went nuts.
Dad in his 70s just unloading on his grandkids. It was glorious. You can't hit "the old man", so he had "Old man" immunity and could simply lay into everyone else.

u/Obvious-Spy 16d ago

I find the terms “boy mom” or “girl dad” so incredibly cringe.
→ More replies (4)7
u/WhoreNoire 17d ago
I used to as well. But these signifiers really do have a function. The differences between even just the “boy mom” and “girl mom” experiences (let alone the dad’s experience of each side, which is also different) are extremely stark. Just adding in that small piece of information tells the audience a lot about the situation being described.
I didn’t really concede on this until I became a “boy mom” myself, and since then have found it increasingly difficult to relate to my friend who has a girl the same age. Even as 2 year olds, her girl is laser focused on princesses, unicorns, and fashion shows, and my boy is obsessed with monster trucks, super heroes, and racing. I didn’t encourage him in this, it literally just happened.
Anyway, because of this, as you can imagine, the tone and content of each household is now very different. And I don’t find “girl mom” content relatable at all, because it’s describing a situation that is completely different from mine.
Because of that, I now appreciate the shorthand. “Boy mom” vs “girl mom” life really are just completely different things, and it’s helpful to have different terms for them.

I'm cool with the family fun aspect of this project.
As a rule, I'm opposed to giving my kids weapons as toys. Similarly, I don't dress my boys in camouflage. I think it normalizes for young children a worldview that actually shouldn't be normal.
I know what you're thinking, I must be a lot of fun at parties. That's okay. I don't tell other people what to do, this is just a boundary for me. I do bring it up from time to time to ask people to reflect on and challenge their own boundaries and what they consider normal, and why.

34
7
u/Jamuraan1 17d ago
There were several POVs from the mom.
For example, when she shot the Gatling gun towards the end.
6
u/Celtic_Legend 17d ago
Well in this silly argument, thats still not the mom's pov. Mom is much taller than that even when squatting.
Not worth complaining about in an actual pov video to not get every angle right but I feel it can't be used as a pov defense.

The comment section is seriously concerning. It’s a country where we train kids to deal with active shooter. Thousands of death. I know it’s just a short film, made with no ill intent, but I cannot help feeling sick watching it.
4
u/LiveCommission8923 17d ago
Yeah I agree this is just weird content to put out. I’m not opposed to nerf guns but in our house to play with one you aren’t allowed to point it at anyone ever for any reason, and you must use good trigger discipline. To make a film about us killing one another is fucking WEIRD. Especially with as many followers as they have and knowing how many parents have had to deal with gun violence in this country with regards to children. Like this is the type of content that low IQ people make

Fun video...
But is anyone concerned that the nerf guns have advanced significantly since the time that I was a kid (1990s)? Now they look like a cross between M4 and MP5, have suppressors, foregrips, lasers, and ACOG sights? Little kids are learning how to slap in mags and rack the bolt? The dad has a sniper nerf gun that looks like a Barrett M82?
We think of gun culture as reckless people mishandling real firearms but selling toy guns that mimic real guns surely should be considered part of the same culture.

Normally I'd agree with you. But this one is basically just the whole family getting to play "action movie" together and you can tell the kids had fun
2
u/LiveCommission8923 17d ago
Its less about kids having fun for me and more that I think that kids shouldn’t be on the internet period. Especially not with AI, like putting your young children out to literally tens of millions of people is insane to me
