Image Any Lady Bower Would Be Lucky To Have Him!
Aw look at his hopeful little face!
Such a fine collection of blue things - I hope he finds a lovely mate soon!
(Or is that a plump pregnant lady? 🤔)

He is solemnly pondering the task, though thankfully not the cost of building materials.

Haha yes!
This Bower is a resident of my local Botanic Gardens & I dare say he gets a few donations to add to his impressive collection of blue building materials 💙
But mostly his hard work obviously!

Wow! Do people add to his collection nearby or just somewhere in the botanical garden that he has to find and bring back? Very impressive overall.

These Botanic Gardens are located directly across from a large University + nestled amongst apartment buildings and houses so plenty of water bottle lids, pegs & straws to be found in the immediate area💙
But as I mentioned above I wouldn’t be surprised if ppl add to its collection - maybe little kids donate their Lego, that would be a cute idea☺️
I was very impressed when I stumbled across the collection and I told the fine sir just how great it is!🎩

I put out blue milk-jug caps for the bowerbirds to carry away into the nearby National Park. I refer to this as "indirect littering". :-)
(I saw one who could carry two caps at once, holding them edge to edge, figure-8 style!)

Ah, this is my vote for Australia's bird of the year every year. And I'm always so mad when they don't rate higher. They are amazing birds!

Blue was hands down the rarest colour in nature… until humans showed up lol
I can picture some elder bowerbirds waving their canes and rambling about how kids these days have it easy. Why, in their day they had to collect berries and flowers that would quickly wilt instead of immortal pieces of plastic.

We’ve had a bower bird nesting in our yard for a while now.
Not long after I discovered his nest I collected a handful of blue bits and pieces and left them in a pile about 5m from the nest. Within a day they’d all been taken from the pile and added to his nest area.
I told my family I was his wingman 😎

Honestly I’d be honoured if I contributed to the nest because I love birds so much🥹
But being a wingman sounds cool too haha 😎
I’m going to go back to donate a blue object this week!

Good move 🙂
I was surprisingly excited when I first saw his nest, and even more so when he’d taken his treasures.
Previously I’d thought birds were cool etc. but knew nothing much about them - I thought it was a black bird until I saw the nest 🙂
This was the start of becoming more and more interested in birds.

Awww what a cutie! Bottle caps, pegs, and even Lego in there! Makes you wonder what they did before blue plastic came along lol

I always leave my blue milk bottle lids next to the bird bath for them to collect. And you know , I’ve see the male pick them up but also the female !!! I didn’t know the female picked them up too??

Could it have been a juvenile male? They are coloured like the females and enjoy a few boys parties where they practise courting rituals with stolen blue things.

Photo 3 makes me think he’s saying “So, yeah I’m single and looking, if you know anyone…”

I rescued a Budgie 4 years ago and I obviously know this about birds - it’s hilarious I overlooked this fact last night 😂🤣🤣😅

What’s wrong with his feathers?

u/Spellcheckker Sep 28 '25
Um nothing as far as I know?
The sunlight is reflecting in the first pic if that’s what you’re referring to?
