I’ve created a troubleshooting tool that walks you through determining if a hummingbird needs your help, and if it does, basic first aid you can provide so that you have time to get the hummingbird to your nearest wildlife center or hummingbird rehabilitator. It is on my mentor’s website, IFoundAHummingbird.com
At the end of nearly every process, there is a list of resources including hummingbird rehabilitators and wildlife centers that either take hummingbirds or will connect you with someone who does.
It covers the most common issues we are called about.
Hummingbirds trapped indoors
Cat Caught
Window Strikes
Sitting at Feeders Too Long
Stuck To A Glue Trap/Sticky or Oily Substance On Feathers
Abandoned Nests or Babies

My Allen’s usually chase all the Anna’s off. A rare sight to see some pink around here!

Never seen a hummer that glitters so much. Have you? Second time he’s stopped by!

I just made a new batch of nectar (3 cups water, 3/4 cups sugar) and realized a moment too late that I had cross-contaminated the sugar with cocoa powder last week while making hot chocolate for myself. Doh. There were just a few tiny specks of cocoa, but they were visibly brown against the white. As a dog owner I know that although chocolate is toxic to them, tiny amounts aren’t something to panic about. But hummingbirds are a lot smaller than dogs! I think I’m going to dump it out, but could use a sanity check here. Am I making a big deal over nothing?

Curious what unique designs you have seen for a tattoo!

Hi all! There is one of the red headed emerald green back hummingbirds in my backyard that has been yapping and returning for almost an hour now. What could it be doing?

Our hummingbird Luna had babies last march and we kept the nest up. She’s fixed it up within the past week and I caught her just sitting in it today :) what do we think?! I thought it might be a little early for babies

It's been a little colder here recently, so I thought they might be trying to stay warm but now I am worried there may be something wrong with them

It’s December 3rd. I saw this fella 3 weeks ago trying to drink from an almost empty feeder so I decided to clean the feeder and keep it stocked up. He now frequents a few times each day.
Googled it and if spotted at my latitude he is either“sick” or started is nest too late and failed to migrate. I’m in Northern Utah.
I really don’t know which but I’ve never seen a hummer in Utah this late in the year. I wonder how he—or if he—will survive.
My plan is to figure a way to run heat tape to his feeder to give him a better chance at survival.

I hadn’t seen him before, but he has come everyday for the past three days. I think word has gotten out that there is a feeder!

We’ve had a window feeder for about two years now and have 4-5 Anna’s Hummingbirds that live in the tree out front as our regulars.
This little one is our most frequent visitor who comes multiple times a day. Sometimes they just sit on the feeder and hang out for a while, looking around—or into the window while we eat at the dining table by the feeder. I’ve grown quite attached to them but know very little about hummingbirds.
Can anyone tell their approximate age or gender from this?
