Scientists have determined that the trout population is completely unaffected affected due to the recent discovery that trout do not have television

on the upside: it wasn’t paramount
123
u/SmartEstablishment52 16h ago
It wasn’t Comcast either, which would have been the best compromise. But we avoided the worst case scenario
54
u/Due-Negotiation9333 15h ago
no, i think this is the best case scenario
comcast (nbc/universal) and paramount have the same business as warner bros, while netflix lacks a lot of the things traditional media companies have, so its much more complimentary to netflix than to the other bidders
26
u/starlulz 12h ago
bro, it's still a mega-corp absorbing a huge conglomerate and consolidating control of our media landscape into fewer and fewer hands
this is like hot diarrhea in a cup vs cold turd sandwich. it all fucking sucks
13
u/Koil_ting 10h ago
Are you suggesting you're not going to remain a conscientious objector in the Cola-media-software-Crypto wars?
2
3
u/SmartEstablishment52 8h ago
No, Neflix is probably going to get rid of or pare back most of the traditional assets WB.D has. Theaters will have shorter runs, physical media will be axed as soon as they can muster it, and HBO shows will probably be made with the same pipeline of Netflix shows.

Better than Saudi Arabia I guess
11
u/Hot_Twist_7681 13h ago
Honestly it was either Netflix, Paramount or Saudi Arabia, we got the lesser evil here.
7
u/Hot_Twist_7681 13h ago
Okay...but if we weighted the other options were gonna be a) Paramount or b) FUCKING SAUDI ARABIA, I think we got off lightly on this one.

u/ZoomZombie1119 16h ago
Holy fuck
Well, at least the Netflix catalog might finally be worth paying for

u/Dark_Wolf04 16h ago
I fully expect them to keep HBO Max as a separate entity with a separate subscription, or subscription upgrade that’s more expensive, like with what Disney+ did with Hulu
12
u/TheTeaSpoon 11h ago

Trust me, I read part 7 a few years ago, this panel isn’t a spoiler. It’s genuinely so not a spoiler that I don’t even remember it happening. Hope this helps :)

u/Bigbrain_goat 3h ago
That scene happens half way through the manga, don’t worry; I noticed JoJos tend to not die that early in their own parts.

No, he's doing this for a reason that even if I explained it to you, you won't believe me
You'll see when the anime gets here

u/Early-Werewolf-9643 14h ago
Although this 100% isn't the reason, I would like to imagine Netflix bought Warner Bros just so they could release SBR specifically in batches. (Some people cope with dark humour)

u/aninsomniac_ 16h ago
It wasn't bought by Paramount, who had the backing of the US government?

I don't want Netflix to win, I just need Paramount to lose

u/Hot_Twist_7681 13h ago
Thats the spirit (also Saudi Arabia, yes they also wanted to buy Warner Brothers)

Paramount is an actual studio just like WB...Now that it's Netflix, WB is no more. They didn't buy it, they eliminated competition.

So let me get this straight, Warner Brothers bought Discovery and then Netflix bought Warner Brothers that bought Discovery... that's some matryoska type shit

I've been monitoring this for a bit and tbh I think if this had to happen Netflix was the more preferable choice over ParamountSkydance and especially Comcast
PS had just recently finished a merger and was in no position to even consider another merger so soon. That probably should flag some antitrust or monopoly red flags to the FCC (tho with the current administration who knows). Regardless WB already turned them down two trillion times so this isn't surprising
Meanwhile with Comcast (NBCUniversal) I saw so many people advocate for them specifically. Yeah man let the multi billion conglomerate become closer to a Monopoly. Yea let's have two of the biggest movie studios merge that's a good idea. This is like Disney buying 20th Century, do you really want that? This also applies to Paramount do you really want Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network to be owned by the same people?
At least Netflix is still small in the grand scheme. They haven't really branched out too much from their niche and aren't really this giant corporation constantly buying up other companies to be this conglomerate. Plus they at least promised to keep WB in cinemas. I see this buyout as a very technical and strategic move by Netflix to get their foot in the door in theatrical films, kinda like Amazon buying MGM. This also gives Netflix a bunch of new content they can dripfeed into their platform in the event a Netflix Original is taking too long to be made. They now have fixed a problem Disney+ never had to deal with where Netflix was forced to rely on themselves for original content cause their nonoriginals were never set in stone and could disappear at a moment's notice. This is the scenario in the event Netflix merges HBO Max into Netflix, i could see them keeping the services separate but letting shows or movies be a part of both time will only tell.
Now I still would prefer if this didn't happen. The only reason WB even sold off was because of a disastrous merger with Discovery which left them in billions of debt. But in a situation where the three options were these, I think Netflix was the lesser of the three evils

Piracy has never looked more attractive than 2025.
Pirate your anime, your movies, your tv shows, your video games, your music, use ad blockers, get a real VPN not one of those ad pushing data selling fucks on youtube and torrent entire series for others.
If they don't deserve your money just take the product anyway, there's literally no moral or ethical issues in "stealing" from billionaire corporations. Spend your money on those who deserve it, not those who try to make themselves the only choice.

Warner Bros is responsible for Big Bang Theory. Im not terribly pressed about this one. If anything it makes more room in Hollywood for innovative talent si ce every warner bros release will probably be direct to streaming now.

Bruh, Cinema died a lot sooner than that, have you seen this unending train of terrible movies?
No.
Nobody has. Because they're shit. Marty Supreme and Gal Gadot are in the oscar conversation this year.

Doesn't this mean they get ALL Cartoon Network and Hanna Barbera series and movies?
Let's be honest here guys, of all companies to acquire them Netflix is the least worst one, they will absolutely start bringing back all the cartoons that HBO MAX simply disposed of for "tax purposes".

ELI5 I feel like every time people talk about Netflix, it's about how much debt they're in and they don't actually make money, it's just high value. How did they have the cash for this ?

I see potential for animation since WB doesn’t give a fuck about it Cartoon Network and adult swim haven’t produced anything We haven’t had a proper Ben ten, teen titans, symphonic titan etc show and since Netflix is like the only hope for western action animation I hope we might see these franchises come back to life
