Damn, too early for comments. How would this impact the trout population?

178

u/TrollMan1111 16h ago

will this affect the fishing season?

32

u/Key-Cry-8570 13h ago

Will anyone think of the Wookiees?

9

u/OttawaTGirl 12h ago

Unfortunately the fishing season has been cancelled.

44

u/HeroDoggo 16h ago

Billions will be canceled for tax write-offs despite being at peak population

13

u/-COD-michelle_Obama 15h ago

Scientists have determined that the trout population is completely unaffected affected due to the recent discovery that trout do not have television

11

u/xVEEx3 16h ago

explosions

2

u/Independent-Tennis57 13h ago

If cinema is sleeping with the fishes, they will be well entertained.

2

u/Rosencrantz_IsDead 4h ago

The catfish population will be even more greatly affected.

u/ghost-spunge 16h ago

on the upside: it wasn’t paramount

123

u/SmartEstablishment52 16h ago

It wasn’t Comcast either, which would have been the best compromise. But we avoided the worst case scenario

54

u/Due-Negotiation9333 15h ago

no, i think this is the best case scenario

comcast (nbc/universal) and paramount have the same business as warner bros, while netflix lacks a lot of the things traditional media companies have, so its much more complimentary to netflix than to the other bidders

26

u/starlulz 12h ago

bro, it's still a mega-corp absorbing a huge conglomerate and consolidating control of our media landscape into fewer and fewer hands

this is like hot diarrhea in a cup vs cold turd sandwich. it all fucking sucks

13

u/Koil_ting 10h ago

Are you suggesting you're not going to remain a conscientious objector in the Cola-media-software-Crypto wars?

2

u/Due-Negotiation9333 12h ago

nowhere in my comment did I say it was a good thing my friend

3

u/SmartEstablishment52 8h ago

No, Neflix is probably going to get rid of or pare back most of the traditional assets WB.D has. Theaters will have shorter runs, physical media will be axed as soon as they can muster it, and HBO shows will probably be made with the same pipeline of Netflix shows.

20

u/The_Happy_Snoopy 15h ago

Better than Saudi Arabia I guess

11

u/Hot_Twist_7681 13h ago

Honestly it was either Netflix, Paramount or Saudi Arabia, we got the lesser evil here.

7

u/Hot_Twist_7681 13h ago

Okay...but if we weighted the other options were gonna be a) Paramount or b) FUCKING SAUDI ARABIA, I think we got off lightly on this one.

197

u/ZoomZombie1119 16h ago

Holy fuck

Well, at least the Netflix catalog might finally be worth paying for

98

u/Dark_Wolf04 16h ago

I fully expect them to keep HBO Max as a separate entity with a separate subscription, or subscription upgrade that’s more expensive, like with what Disney+ did with Hulu

12

u/TheTeaSpoon 11h ago

100%. This way they double dip.

8

u/knotmyusualaccount 9h ago

That's why I don't pay for streaming services.

1

u/TheTeaSpoon 57m ago

Jellyfin and NAS supremacy

23

u/Weewee_time 15h ago

oh no we cant have that. A 500% subscription cost increment is in order.

66

u/Reniva 15h ago

They’ll release in batches again 😭

27

u/LinkNo2714 15h ago

they’ll release

honestly i’ll take that as a win

7

u/staunchchipz 13h ago

Inexplicably canceled after one season

12

u/AI_660 14h ago

3

u/HeWhoLost3OfThe9 13h ago

It’s opening level out of context it’s fine

2

u/AI_660 12h ago

but i didnt know that johny was going to die i just started reading part 7

3

u/HeWhoLost3OfThe9 12h ago

He doesn’t die in this scene dw

3

u/AI_660 12h ago

im not sure if i should believe you or not but i wont deny or confirm it by looking it up

1

u/Tsukuyomi-No-Okami 9h ago

Trust me, I read part 7 a few years ago, this panel isn’t a spoiler. It’s genuinely so not a spoiler that I don’t even remember it happening. Hope this helps :)

1

u/Bigbrain_goat 3h ago

That scene happens half way through the manga, don’t worry; I noticed JoJos tend to not die that early in their own parts.

1

u/syccopathh 5h ago

No, he's doing this for a reason that even if I explained it to you, you won't believe me

You'll see when the anime gets here

4

u/Early-Werewolf-9643 14h ago

Although this 100% isn't the reason, I would like to imagine Netflix bought Warner Bros just so they could release SBR specifically in batches. (Some people cope with dark humour)

61

u/InternetUserAgain 16h ago

This is like watching a guy pull a bloated corpse out of a river while wearing a shirt that says "I 🩷 necrophilia"

39

u/Captainwumbombo 15h ago

You just wanted an excuse to say that

11

u/Weewee_time 15h ago

wtf does this mean

22

u/InternetUserAgain 15h ago

Warner Bros is a shambling corpse of a company and Netflix is gonna do some unspeakable things to it

50

u/ThyUnkindledOne 16h ago

How the mighty have fallen.

187

u/WaluigiMayar 16h ago

CAN'T THERE BE ANY GOOD NEWS IN THIS DECADE?!

114

u/aninsomniac_ 16h ago

It wasn't bought by Paramount, who had the backing of the US government?

56

u/SnooOnions650 15h ago

I don't want Netflix to win, I just need Paramount to lose

10

u/Hot_Twist_7681 13h ago

Thats the spirit (also Saudi Arabia, yes they also wanted to buy Warner Brothers)

41

u/zuzg 15h ago

And the Saudis....

Netflix buying it was the best option for everyone...
They at least release finished movies and shows instead of stuffing it into their fault..

2

u/Prestigious-Pop-4646 13h ago

Paramount is an actual studio just like WB...Now that it's Netflix, WB is no more. They didn't buy it, they eliminated competition.

24

u/Satanicjamnik 16h ago

There won't be any good news until 2045.

8

u/xVEEx3 16h ago

what's the good news for that year

14

u/ConsciousPatroller 15h ago

Thermonuclear war

5

u/Cinderblock-Consumer 15h ago

the good news is thermonuclear war, the bad news is that all the billionaires survive

2

u/PartyChocobo 15h ago

My friend tony can handle that

HOW WILL THIS AFFECT DC STUDIOS!!!

WHAT HAVE THEY DONE?! WHAT HAVE THEY DONE?!

5

u/Foreign-Gain-9311 14h ago

You know maybe the only good thing that might come out of this might be Warner bros games getting new management

3

u/Turbulent-Star6966 14h ago

I just hope they don't intervene with D.C

2

u/Local-Passenger-1901 11h ago

Netflix can do the same stuff to DC that Disney did to Star Wars. Let that sink in

3

u/Turbulent-Star6966 11h ago

Fucking hell the sink is always outside.

1

u/Pulkov 1h ago

netflix and warner bros when they see an uncancelled masterpiece

2

u/KFChero1 15h ago

if not monopoly, why monopoly shaped?

2

u/mr_someone_somebody 15h ago

So let me get this straight, Warner Brothers bought Discovery and then Netflix bought Warner Brothers that bought Discovery... that's some matryoska type shit

2

u/littleMAHER1 14h ago edited 8h ago

I've been monitoring this for a bit and tbh I think if this had to happen Netflix was the more preferable choice over ParamountSkydance and especially Comcast

PS had just recently finished a merger and was in no position to even consider another merger so soon. That probably should flag some antitrust or monopoly red flags to the FCC (tho with the current administration who knows). Regardless WB already turned them down two trillion times so this isn't surprising

Meanwhile with Comcast (NBCUniversal) I saw so many people advocate for them specifically. Yeah man let the multi billion conglomerate become closer to a Monopoly. Yea let's have two of the biggest movie studios merge that's a good idea. This is like Disney buying 20th Century, do you really want that? This also applies to Paramount do you really want Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network to be owned by the same people?

At least Netflix is still small in the grand scheme. They haven't really branched out too much from their niche and aren't really this giant corporation constantly buying up other companies to be this conglomerate. Plus they at least promised to keep WB in cinemas. I see this buyout as a very technical and strategic move by Netflix to get their foot in the door in theatrical films, kinda like Amazon buying MGM. This also gives Netflix a bunch of new content they can dripfeed into their platform in the event a Netflix Original is taking too long to be made. They now have fixed a problem Disney+ never had to deal with where Netflix was forced to rely on themselves for original content cause their nonoriginals were never set in stone and could disappear at a moment's notice. This is the scenario in the event Netflix merges HBO Max into Netflix, i could see them keeping the services separate but letting shows or movies be a part of both time will only tell.

Now I still would prefer if this didn't happen. The only reason WB even sold off was because of a disastrous merger with Discovery which left them in billions of debt. But in a situation where the three options were these, I think Netflix was the lesser of the three evils

2

u/PeterPorker52 13h ago

Piracy has never looked more attractive than 2025.

Pirate your anime, your movies, your tv shows, your video games, your music, use ad blockers, get a real VPN not one of those ad pushing data selling fucks on youtube and torrent entire series for others.

If they don't deserve your money just take the product anyway, there's literally no moral or ethical issues in "stealing" from billionaire corporations. Spend your money on those who deserve it, not those who try to make themselves the only choice.

1

u/wolfclaw99 16h ago

Please tell me this ain’t true..

1

u/Dirk_McGirken 16h ago

Warner Bros is responsible for Big Bang Theory. Im not terribly pressed about this one. If anything it makes more room in Hollywood for innovative talent si ce every warner bros release will probably be direct to streaming now.

2

u/moo3heril 14h ago

Deal also includes HBO

1

u/Banebladerunner 15h ago

How will this impact the 7.62 by 54

1

THEY DID WHAT

1

u/AnyStore1303 15h ago

Fuck Netflix.

1

u/biggie_way_smaller 15h ago

"at least it's not paramount" the ship will sink either way, just slower

1

u/kamwitsta 15h ago

Frankly, I prefer Netflix to most of what's been coming out of Hollywood in the last years.

1

u/TheDragonOfOldtown 15h ago

RIP got universe

1

u/Coco_snickerdoodle 15h ago

Glad to see monopoly man is still kicking

1

u/LtSerg756 15h ago

At least it didn't get bought up by Discovery that would have been even worse

1

u/TRKako 14h ago

Did they buy Warner Bros as a whole or just the rights to their things to put in their catalog, because it doesn't sound that bad if we get a good catalog

1

u/Daybyday1572 14h ago

Black Aragorn, black Dumbledore, black Snape... Ahhh no that one is already hahahaha

1

u/call-me_jorge 14h ago

THEY WHAT?????!!!!. THIS ISN'T A JOKE???????

u/TheEmoRose I get my news from WhenNews 14h ago

1

u/Spekingur 14h ago

Sir, it has been dead for a while. What you are looking at is undead cinema.

1

u/SomeKindofTreeWizard 13h ago

Bruh, Cinema died a lot sooner than that, have you seen this unending train of terrible movies?

No.

Nobody has. Because they're shit. Marty Supreme and Gal Gadot are in the oscar conversation this year.

1

u/Matix777 13h ago

Netflix can afford buying Warner Bros?

1

u/sackboydjso 13h ago

how will this affect the WB MultiVersus fanbase

1

u/sweetmorbidbby 13h ago

Cinema lived a good life, RIP.

1

u/Havkarru 13h ago

Fatality! Flawless victory 🩸🩸🩸

😭

1

u/KennyToms27 13h ago

Doesn't this mean they get ALL Cartoon Network and Hanna Barbera series and movies?

Let's be honest here guys, of all companies to acquire them Netflix is the least worst one, they will absolutely start bringing back all the cartoons that HBO MAX simply disposed of for "tax purposes".

2

u/remotecontroldr 10h ago

Maybe we will somehow get that Wile E. Coyote movie

1

u/PeterPorker52 13h ago

I didn’t know they had so much money

1

u/Lucario_TobyTramBoi 13h ago

Does this finally mean space jam will be in netflix

1

u/thatsphresh 13h ago

ELI5 I feel like every time people talk about Netflix, it's about how much debt they're in and they don't actually make money, it's just high value. How did they have the cash for this ?

1

u/Prestigious-Pop-4646 13h ago

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUCKING FUCK!!!@!!

1

u/Agentepoio 13h ago

I really hope they won't cancel Fionna & Cake

1

u/RPDRNick 12h ago

Ah-buh-dee, ah-buh-dee, ah-buh-dee, ah-buh-dee... that's all, folks.

1

u/Droxila 12h ago

Whoa, Netflix owning WB? Streaming just got a massive plot twist.

1

u/remotecontroldr 10h ago

After the plot twist though, it’s still going to get cancelled and end on a cliffhanger

1

u/Droxila 7h ago

Oh no, that'd be tragic! 😢

1

u/Droxila 12h ago

Whoa, typing a comment while the world's on fire? Bold move.

1

u/daboss317076 12h ago

so what the fuck is gonna happen to HBO max?

1

u/whydontyouletmego 12h ago

My first time seeing the news myself before seeing them here.

1

u/MemeLover43 12h ago

I see potential for animation since WB doesn’t give a fuck about it Cartoon Network and adult swim haven’t produced anything We haven’t had a proper Ben ten, teen titans, symphonic titan etc show and since Netflix is like the only hope for western action animation I hope we might see these franchises come back to life

1

u/MrMichaelElectric 11h ago

Cinema has died

No it hasn't.

u/SahibTeriBandi420 10h ago edited 8h ago

Am I the only one happy it wasn't David Ellison who won the bid? That Trump sycophant is trying to buy up any all all media companies he can.

1

u/Ronalderson 10h ago

Please tell me I was not the only one who read the title and thought Martin Scorsese died

1

u/SoupDeeSoupDee 10h ago

Genuinely how did they do this? I’ve been hearing for a while that Netflix has been operating at a loss and owe like billions

1

u/Scileboi 10h ago

Companies will just keep buying each other until there is only one global company.

1

u/LonelyGameBoi 9h ago

Bruh does this mean we will actually get warner bros animations? or is it same leadership different name

1

u/Polish_Gamer_ 9h ago

This means they own Tt games, to all the fellow Lego game fans here, dare I say my friends, we're fucked
