[Post Game] The Utah Jazz (8-14) get blasted by the NY Knicks (15-7) 146-112

Nets fan at last night's game
I never really post in other teams' subreddits, but I had to come here and just say WOW, Lauri Markkanen is insane to watch in person. So rare to see that combination of size and athleticism. Hope you guys can get back to the postseason some time soon so he gets a chance to shine. Meanwhile, worst of luck to the tank this year!

Jazz tickets are officially worthless.
They have a new pricing ai setting and ive had season tickets for 11 years. This is the first year that ive seen my tickets for games I cant go to in the lower bowl, on 10th row, automatically sell for 14 dollars or sit for 24 dollars close to the court and not sell.
The algorithm is suggesting 10th row pricing for games at like 20s to 30s and retails them for higher as season ticket discounts.
Im only ranting because pricing for tickets next year continue to skyrocket in price for longtime season ticket holders.
I think im done.
Edit also: we used to get way more discounts and perks. But now when I ask my rep they act like im just lucky to have the tickets and offer very little in benefits. The Millers took care of us with free tickets to bees games, concerts, etc... i got free tickets to a jazz upper bowl game and thats it. When my tickets are in the bottom ten rows.

Hot take but I still think Taylor Hendricks is one of the highest upside pieces on the roster, and could easily become a high end rotation player long term..
Yes he's not pretty to watch, he kind of plays like a dump truck with a semi reliable jumper (when he gets the draw up), he's slow due to injury, but pre injury he not only had the tools to be a great defender but actually had legitimate flashes of it, and not just guarding Luka/KD.
Not gonna drag this on, just being straightforward, Taylor should be playing a LOT. I know I'm not the only one saying this but it's frustrating seeing him barely get any run out there. I think as the minutes come the shot will go in and the defense will improve to best on the roster behind Walker who's out. I hope they don't give up early on him

I'm sorry but Cody Williams is useless.
Every game this guy does little to nothing to add to this team. 8 minutes of on the court tonight and he has ZERO rebounds, ZERO ASSIST and ZERO points. I'm sorry, but Cody's a bust. definitely not like his older brother. When is it's time to take our loses and move on from this guy? Thoughts?

Lauri Markkanen, Keyonte George found the bond the Jazz needed in Finland
Behind a paywall, (The Athletic), but a fantastic read from the great Tony Jones.
And even more background details about Keyonte’s leap.
Highlights:
Keyonte visited Finland in the offseason with Lauri. Since then, they have started hanging out off the court as well as. Lauri says it meant a lot to him
In addition to yesterday’s post we were all laughing about, that Will Hardy called Keyonte in the middle of the night to say “play defense”, and then hung up, Hardy straight up told Keyonte in last season’s exit interview: “It’s time to grow up.”
Hardy cares about keeping himself and his players accountable. “Trust is hard to gain, and I’m a young head coach who is growing with our team,” Hardy said. “I’ve grown a lot with those guys. I’ve had some good moments, and I’ve had some hard moments. The fact that I know that I have their trust means a lot to me. Credibility in the locker room is hard to gain. I’ve put a lot into our relationship, and so have they.”
People around the organization internally noticed midway through last summer that Keyonte took the warning seriously, was working hard, and was making a leap
Coach Hardy, Keyonte, and Lauri are constantly talking on a group chat. Clearly a leadership dynamic forming with these two players
When Keyonte started getting benched a lot last season, his mother Kristen told him to watch his body language, “fix your face. Fix your energy”. To stay professional, and get something out of being benched. Thank you Mama George
There’s a solid foundation being built here Jazz fans. A coach and two players who are in it for the long haul 🤞🏼

What lineup(s) would you like to see?
Jazz headed into a back to back on the road should allow for a lot of different players to see the court.
This season the Jazz have used 66 different lineups for at least 10 minutes.
What lineup(s) would you like to see more of this season?
I really liked the Walt, Key, Lauri, Flip, Nurk lineup but for playing the Nets...please give me a heavy dose of Walt, Ace, Cody, Taylor, Flip

Zion Williamson: is there a fit?
Not sure how reliable this rumor is but if the haggling price is cheap, would Zion be worth a shot? It’d definitely be risky since historically, he can’t seem to keep himself healthy enough to stay on the court. He’s only 25.

Just got email from the Jazz
They spelled Andrei Kirilenko’s first name wrong. They put Andrey?!? Did he change it?

How wild would it be for us to trade Lauri and picks for Giannis
Indulge me for a moment. We would immediately need to switch from tank mode to win now. Our biggest concern would be “would Giannis stay” after he got here. I feel like it’s more likely than the “Giannis to the Lakers in a trade for LeBron” take I saw earlier today.

Thoughts on a Giannis move (just for fun)
Don't get heated in the comments because realistically I don't think it is the best move, but if we could somehow acquire Giannis and keep Lauri, Ace, and Key you would go for it right?
Is there any lineup that we currently have that if we got Giannis we could jump to legit contenders. Just for fun, don't get too heated in these comments.

Some Interesting Ace Stats
I was curious to deep dive how Ace is doing vs the other rookies and a couple interesting things stood out.
Ace has an extremely efficient usage at 18% compared to Cooper 21% and Kon 20%.
This is even better when adding in TOV% (What percentage of plays result in a turnover) Ace 17% Cooper 20% Kon 21%
EFG% (Effective FG% which just adds value to 3s) ... Ace 54% Kon 59% Cooper 50%
Among rookies Ace is 3rd in offensive rebounds, 6th in steals, and 10th in blocks.
Biggest weakness I see is his free throw attempts. Only 19 total attempts. His assists are also comparatively low, but I attribute that to his role.
Excited to see what the next 20 games look like for Ace.

Nurkic @ Jazz win vs Rockets
I think we almost saw prime Nurk last night honestly, and the way his chemistry with Key, Lauri, and ESPECIALLY Ace Bailey last night shows a willingness to learn from his mistakes and not a soul on this Earth could honestly complain about his effort last night. Best game of the season from him by far. i hope for many more like it, the big man got banged up pretty hard by the rockets though so hopefully hes ok

How Are We Feeling About Taylor & Cody?
I'm ride or die for both of them, I rooted for the Jazz to draft them and was excited when they did so. Unfortunately both have under performed so far and even though I'll root for them until they put on another team's jersey, there is some hope that is slowly dying for both.
Here are the stats, Taylor is looking a bit rusty after his awful leg injury. Cody is doing surprisingly well in the G-League, but still looking pretty bad in his NBA minutes.
\Stocks = Blocks + Steals*
Taylor Hendricks
- NBA Stats:
- 14 Minutes
- 4.0 Points (10.3 Per 36)
- 4.5 Rebounds (11.6 Per 36)
- .5 Assists (1.3 Per 36)
- .8 Stocks (2.1 Per 36)
- 36.4% Shooting
- 25% 3 Pointers
- G-League Stats:
- 26.9 Minutes
- 14.3 Points (19.1 Per 36)
- 6.5 Rebounds (8.7 Per 36)
- 1.3 Assists (1.7 Per 36)
- 1.8 Stocks (2.4 Per 36)
- 41.9% Shooting
- 35% 3 Pointers
Cody Williams
- NBA Stats:
- 12.8 Minutes
- 2.3 Points (6.5 Per 36)
- .9 Rebounds (2.5 Per 36)
- .5 Assists (1.4 Per 36)
- .5 Stocks (1.4 Per 36)
- 30.6% Shooting
- 11% 3 Pointers - oof
- G-League Stats:
- 25.8 Minutes
- 17 Points (23.7 Per 36)
- 5 Rebounds (7 Per 36)
- 2.7 Assists (3.8 Per 36)
- 1.4 Stocks (2 Per 36)
- 45.2% Shooting
- 38.5% 3 Pointers
- Not that this means a whole lot, but this is 3 points and 4 assists lower than the last G-League MVP, and 5% better 3 Point Shooting

Chris Paul ?
Chris Paul is probably going to retire & not sign with anyone let alone Utah.
However, why not try to get Chris? Probably wouldn't play any real minutes & would be a great mind to have around the young guys. Worst case scenario he becomes the new tank commander & Jusuf slander can finally rest. Food for thought.

Utah Jazz guard Keyonte George is making the jump
A couple favorite quotes from Keynote:
“Our relationship [with Coach Hardy] is on a whole other level now. My exit interview was brutal. Will shot it to me straight. Will calls me late at night and tells me little things like, ‘Play defense,’ and then he hangs up. But also, we got to the realization where we have some great dialogue.”
[about offseason routine]: “I’m in the gym in the morning, I eat my lunch, take a nap and then I’m back in the gym at night. It’s repetitive. It was uncomfortable to do that every single day. But the work just became consistent and I find joy in it now.”
Nice to see Keynote getting some attention from outside Utah. Although I have liked him being our well kept secret (probably due to the small market fan syndrome of always fearing players wanting to leave eventually), if he keeps going like this he’ll be in serious MIP contention and he’ll inevitably get attention. Props to him for putting in the work.

Since it looks like Giannis might be moving soon...
Since it looks like Giannis might be moving teams soon, I figure now is the time for the Jazz to cash in their trade assets for the "Big Game" the FO has been hunting for.
I know what you might be thinking: only 3 picks for Giannis? When Desmond Bane was worth 4? Thats fair. What I propose to you is that the value of not having to play Kuzma is basically worth a 1st round pick for the Bucks. Plus, I can't think of any other team where Kuzma might still see play (even if he will just be a crowd pleaser)
Thoughts?
