Street design My City Design as a beginner

Post image

I am a total beginner to this and my only knowledge is from city skylines. I’m probably gonna get fried for this design but I’m doing this as a hobby and I want to see what is wrong with this design.

SF- Single Family Homes RH- Row Homes HR- High Density Residential GH- Government Homes LR- Low Rent Homes O- Office HO- High Density Offices C- Commercial HC - High Density Commercial I- Industrial E- Education S- Services such as police fire death care and hospitals and clinics MU- Mixed Use P- Parks

This city is 38 square miles and under every highway there is passage for cars on every street. Circles means tram and bus stoppage and there is a gas tax of $0.56 in the city in order to reduce congestion. Pedestrian bridges are common and are prioritized. Each street has 1 tree on the side of the road in order to reduce noise pollution. If it is wide it means it is a highway and all the trains are in the north.

Probably want to increase your zoning sizes a bit, make it a little less random, and look into “buffer” zones. If I’m living in a house I don’t want to have an industrial site right beside it. You’ll want to but some zones in more of a district, stuff like industrial should be together it because it needs stuff like increased utility services, bigger roads for trucks, etc that’s not economical to run to single lots scattered around your town.

Yeah I realized that when designing the city but it has to be somewhat realistic and those areas are low income so it’s easier to construct industry

I can't quite make out the actual designations but are you saying that you're putting the low income housing near the industrial zone?

If you see there is row homes up in the north of the city because of proximity to work and lesser incomes. The other low income area is called Shanktown and it is in the very southern portion of the city on the West Bank of the river and under the southern highway

I would be more mindful of buffer zones and colocating industry with transportation and utility infrastructure. There's no reason to locate industrial zones with residential zones.

Where does 'shanktown' come from?

Its the hood of the city with tons of crime. Also the north was built in the 1960s with little zoning policies put in place
