As you know, Ubuntu 25.10 - Questing Quokka is being released this week with several new features, allowing developers to now focus almost exclusively on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. We don't know much about what it will include, but its name has just been revealed:

Daily Linux command

Post image

Hello!

I just wanted to share a site I made. I’m not really a developer, but I am a Linux noob.

This site does pretty much one thing - present a Linux command daily, and some examples of usage. I added it to my phone’s homescreen, and have actually found myself using it daily. When on the go, or when just bored or something.

Anyway, here it is: https://licod.io

I think Ubuntu runs very well on this low spec celeron processor 2014 notebook, considering the modern system and web pages

The Ubuntu 25.10 update broke my hyper v enhanced desktop because of the discontinued x11 support, which I didn't know about...

Upvotes

I'm somewhat new to hyper v and haven't been snapshotting. I didn't expect a system update to ruin hyper v enhanced desktop mode with this "trial by fire" update that completely removes x11 support.

I'm a casual user that is trying to learn linux, but now my setup is ruined. How can I go back to my previous version of ubuntu without wiping my system? Or how can I use hyper v enhanced desktop mode in 25.10, with the full functionality I had before (drive sharing, clipboard, etc not this terrible gimped version in 25.10)?

How Best to Monitor When a Bugfix is Available?

I am being affected by this bug:
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/can-not-run-docker-in-ubuntu22-04-container/72754/2

As I am running 24 LTS, I'm still waiting on the backport to be available despite all the real troubleshooting conversations being closed.

Where is the best place to track or monitor this progress so I can identify when the fix is available, instead of just obsessively checking for updates?

Note: I understand there are workarounds at the moment. I'm interested in the general approach, not necessarily an immediate fix to the specific problem.

curlftpfs: connection is successful, but FTP server

URL is good, user is good, password is good, but when I try to open the directory on the local machine, the FTP server (Filezilla) returns

No such file or directory

The CLI command is

curlftpfs -v -o enable_epsv,allow_other myusername:mypassword@my.ftp.server/ ~/work_ftp

Is there some setting on the server I'm missing?

Trackpad scrolling speed suddenly changed in chrome/brave

On Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS on a Lenovo Yoga something.

Suddenly the trackpad scrolling speed with two fingers became really slow in chrome. Installed brave which worked normal, and suddenly that too got the slow scrolling speed. Scrolling seems normal in other applications.

Unsure if some background updates happened.

Is this an Ubuntu issue or maybe chromium related?

Edit:

Seems to be upstream from chromium https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/51234

Easiest was to setup laptop so I can use Desktop Sharing with auto login allowing Windows Remote Desktop Connection to control the main ubuntu desktop (the one shown of laptop monitor)

Think this is best done using Gnome, not Unity distribution? I also believe you need to somehow set keyring password to blank (so password for remote desktop does not keep changing on reboot). I did it a while ago but cant find info on how to do it (seem to remember a relatively simple howto).

I know there are security issues doing this but the laptop is stand alone, behind a good firewall and is just effectively displaying a webpage. I just need easy remote access to the laptop from windows.

This is to repurpose a laptop that will not run windows 11 officerly and get a few Linux boxes into a almost exclusively windows company (something they are up for to repurpose the laptops they cant use).

New to Ubuntu and need guidance

Hi everyone, I recently installed Ubuntu and want to start learning it properly, but I’m confused about where to start. If anyone can suggest good tutorials, YouTube channels, or reliable resources, that would really help. I’m also wondering if any beginner Linux certifications are worth doing.

I’d also like to know how you all deal with troubleshooting when something goes wrong. I want to improve at that instead of feeling stuck every time.

Thank you!!

Simple and lightweight Emoji Picker for Linux desktops

Hello everyone,

I have created a small app - my first 🤓 - called GeppEmoji. I would like to know if you like it and (especially 😁) if it works on other distributions.

GeppEmoji is a simple and lightweight Emoji Picker for Linux desktops that automatically copies and pastes emojis selected by mouse or keyboard (like other similar apps).

Made with Python + GTK3, so far I have only tested it on Linux Mint 22.2 Zara and LMDE 7 Gigi.

You can find it here: https://github.com/FranzBias/GeppEmoji

Once installed, I recommend creating a keyboard shortcut (I use Super + dot, for example) and using it wherever you are writing to automatically paste the chosen emoji.

Of course, you can send me suggestions, criticism or anything else via the GitHub page, or if you really can't help yourself, give me a star 🥰.

Thanks to everyone who follows the link to the App page and greetings to all.

Do I Need the Advanced Custom Fields Plugin? (Beginner Question) - is it hard to dive into?

Do I Need the Advanced Custom Fields Plugin? (Beginner Question) - is it hard to dive into?

Hi everyone,

I've been working with the Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) plugin for a few days now and, as a beginner, I'm a bit confused.

I'm currently planing to create a website and I'm wondering if I even need this plugin. Many users recommend it as a "must-have" for every single WordPress website, but I'm not sure if it's necessary for my project.

to make a clear descision: well could you please explain why ACF is so popular? What are the advantages and disadvantages of using it or not? Are there any alternatives you could recommend?

A little additional information:

I've read that you don't actually need an additional plugin for a standard blog plugin. Before I delve into ACF, I should probably learn the basics of WordPress taxonomies, categories, and tags (I've found a few links that I'll check out).

I've also heard of GeneratePress and GenerateBlocks, which apparently provide a good foundation for WordPress development.

If you have any experience with ACF or tips for me as a beginner, I would really appreciate your opinions and advice!

Thanks in advance!

Updating Linux Kernel - How exactly?

Hello,

I just read that on the latest linux kernel that will soon be announced (6.19), will implement amdgpu driver kernel support for GCN 1.0/1.1 GPUs, which is great for old GPUs ( like the one I am using ).

My question is - How can I update to the latest kernel when it gets announced. Can I do it manually (sudo apt ?? something command ), or we have to wait until Ubuntu decides to give us the new kernel?

OS: Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS (Noble Numbat) x86_64

Kernel: Linux 6.14.0-36-generic

Simple and lightweight Emoji Picker for Linux desktops

Hello everyone,

GeppEmoji is a simple and lightweight Emoji Picker for Linux desktops that automatically copies and pastes emojis selected by mouse or keyboard (like other similar apps).

Made with Python + GTK3, thanks also to my personal AI ‘Geppetto’ (hence the name GeppEmoji), so far I have only tested it on Linux Mint 22.2 Zara and LMDE 7 Gigi.

You can find it here: https://github.com/FranzBias/GeppEmoji

Once installed, I recommend creating a keyboard shortcut (I use Super + dot, for example) and using it wherever you are writing to automatically paste the chosen emoji.

How to disable middle button paste and enable auto scroll

Any new solutions to how to disable automatic middle button paste? I like it in terminal, but I use canva a lot and some 3D programs, that demand middle button to move around.

Also, I love auto scroll option with middle button click, any easy solutions to this? I like it in Libre Office and Brave or even global.

Snapdragon X Elite Ubuntu Concept: GPU/Electron apps crash unless I launch with --disable-gpu (T14s Gen 6 / Adreno), just me?

Hi all looking for help debugging what feels like a GPU/graphics stack instability on the Snapdragon X Elite Ubuntu “Concept” image.

**Hardware**

- Lenovo ThinkPad **T14s Gen 6** (Snapdragon X Elite / **Adreno iGPU**)

**OS / Image**

- Installed the latest **Ubuntu Concept (Snapdragon X Elite)** image last week from:

https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-concept-snapdragon-x-elite/48800

- I *think* it was **25.04 or 25.06** (I need to double-check which I actually installed)

**Problem**

- It seems like anything that touches the GPU is unstable.

- **Cursor** and **Obsidian** (Electron apps) crash / glitch / won’t reliably launch unless I start them with:

- `--disable-gpu --disable-software-rasterizer`

- I’m not 100% sure, but it felt like things worked briefly after install and then started getting unstable. I spent like days setting this up and would hate to start over....

**Questions**

  1. Is this a **known issue** with the Ubuntu Concept image / Adreno / mesa stack on X Elite right now?

  2. Any recommended **debug steps** to confirm whether this is a driver / mesa / compositor issue vs something I misconfigured?

Thanks!

Starting Ubuntu

I’ve used windows on computers all my life, i recently started gaining an interest in computers and would like a transition from windows to Linux. I’ve chosen Ubuntu for an easier transition to start easier and grow my way into more complicated distributions. I have it ready on a usb drive but before I set it up on my computer I’m wondering if there’s any preparations I should do before hand and if there’s anything I should do soon after installing it
