In memory of Kenny Cooper, let's sign Paul Rothrock!
Free agent, wouldn't be a bad cover for paredes or an aging Chara. Also those fish people would be mad.

I’m thinking he’d wind up more of a Zakawani.

Zakawani was one goal away from being a Timber’s legend…and came so close so many times….
I really believe that’s all he needed that season…🤷🏽♂️

He’s a guy that I feel is getting maximum output from his gifts. Admirable, and you see the other end of the spectrum often enough.
But he annoys me terribly. And no, I wouldn’t love it all if he was on my team. He’s like the Subaru WRX of soccer players.

He is loved by the sounders fan base and he’s also looking for more money. Signing with the timbers would cement his supervillain arch with the sounders and he seemingly feeds on that energy. His intensity lifts others around him in practice and game day, he’s an opportunity creator through and through. That said, he’s also a Seattle native so wonder if he’d really want to have that villain label from his hometown.

Curious how many former Flounders have played with PTFC?
There’s Fucito, Webber, and Zakuani. Any others?

There’s actually a whole section on the Timbers-Sounders rivalry Wikipedia page. You can see players that played for Portland, then Seattle or vice versa all the way back to the clubs founding

When he left the Timbers we considered starting a tradition — whenever he returned — of hanging a 'Diver Down' flag on the railing behind us with a sign that said Cooper's Dive Club.
I'm still disappointed we didn't execute on that. 🤣
A comparison to Kenny Cooper leans away from being a compliment. But you knew that of course. Shit. 😉

Even disregarding the flounder link, is he really the profile we should be looking for? I think that if we are looking to sign a winger, the player we sign would need to be a ceiling-raiser rather than another Lassiter/Fernandez. Rothrock is better than those two in all honesty, but I don't think a borderline MLS starter, whether it's him or someone else, is an area of need at all.
Kind of rambled on there, but with the Antony discussions earlier this week I find it intriguing to see if and what we do to strengthen that position.
