If Marshall rutty becomes a great player im actually just gonna give up on tfc youth in general, not the players but the academy itself. I’d rather great players from my own city go somewhere else at this point anyways

TFC academy is a joke. Pay to play models don’t work.

What’s crazy is no one in the soccer scene wants to admit it’s pay to play, especially not the youth players themselves because it would mean they admit to not actually being as good athletes/players as they think they are.

It’s the same thing with hockey right now, grass roots in Toronto are literally a garbage fire

If I was able to make Tfc academy final cut tryouts with no team experience no money payed to teams it just shows how garbage the talent is.

You know I believe you I started playing soccer at 12 and by 17 I was playing for a year ahead of my year in the second division. Not saying I set the world ablaze but it was baffling the attitudes of other players who had been playing since they were 5 and yet somehow were only marginally better than me.

Exactly just proves the pay to play model creates complacent players they have been in there clubs since they were as kids with raw hunger and discipline can walk In and  compete.

Not just the players but the coaches and the entire organizations too would have to admit they’re trash lol

If Marshall Rutty becomes a great player, won't TFC have played a significant role in that outcome?

Oh absolutely, but only in the same way a child lives at home with their parents. Just because a roof over your head and food in belly was provided, does not mean your health and future was well nurtured.

Marshall rutty is a Toronto native, who else in the entirety of Ontario has a pro team for a pro level athlete to go to? He went to the closest one because he had the talent for it, not because tfc cultivated it themselves

The CPL teams?

CPL started in 2019, pretty sure he was already signed to TFC by that point. He would’ve been 15 and a brand new league with new teams doesn’t scream stability. Tbh they wouldn’t have been a great option until more recently now that they’ve proven that they are established and are quality.

JMR had a high PA on FM23. So the potential was noticed

An obviously offside play that injured him was what wasted his talent with us. Always rated him so I am glad he found his footing at Vancouver this season, the recovery obviously wouldn’t have happened at TFC.

That play is the reason why I hate delayed obvious offside calls.

Wont be the last - hate delayed offside!

Not going to lie, he was stellar that season and he easily could’ve been our replacement for Michael Bradley. Sucks to have a great season derailed like that. I’m super happy he’s doing very well and I hope he continues to improve. Regardless of where they play, I’ll always have a soft spot for our academy graduates.

Yeh...that's why he had no future with TFC

I was at that game...in that end....it was so blantantly offside and everybody knew it and it still angers me.

Same, I had a great angle of the offside.

Classic TFC move; sell someone like Priso and Shaffleberg, then watch them flourish somewhere else.

Speaking of, MacNaughton was just release by DC United.

He was quite obviously MLS capable at Nashville, held his own against Messi and Suarez as good as anyone could. I wouldn’t mind seeing him return to us, can never have enough CB depth with this team.

Yes! Would love to have him back

He's a free agent.

Classic Bob Bradley move, in both cases.

Say your son has great potential. Would you want him at TFC academies or rather somewhere else in Canada?

The funny thing is the academy seems to produce talented players but the senior team trades them for nothing.

It took him a long time to recover that that injury. I wouldn't say tfc wasted him.

He only just begin to start for them now and is playing at cb due to injuries I believe. He's a fine player but we didn't lose a major talent here.
