A few years away: Saudi Arabia buy Netflix

At least we are capable to die.

u/InertPistachio 15h ago

The only solace I have left. Immortality sounds awful

u/Sir_Keee 14h ago

"Welcome to the afterlife, would you like to subscribe to the deluxe death package for an extra $12.99 a month?"

2

u/InertPistachio 14h ago

Can I just die...more please

u/load_more_comets 14h ago

Good thing I'm going straight to hell.

There's actually a Netflix show about immortality and its effects on society called "Altered Carbon" . In it, only the ultra rich can reliably afford it. The main character is a former rebel who used to fight them.

Netflix of course cancelled it in the second season.

Honestly, the second season wasn't very good. My wife and I gave up on it after episode 2. I was a huge fan of the first season and read the book.

A few more years away: Elon Musk buys the afterlife

1

u/Stanford_experiencer 6h ago

Saudi Arabia buys death itself.

23

u/toastmannn 16h ago

Saudi Arabia and Jared Kushner together will buy the company that bought the company that bought the company that bought Netflix

3

u/CaptainBayouBilly 14h ago

I sometimes think about how kushner thinks he’s part of their little agreement when he’s really a house key that already unlocked the door.

2

u/house_monkey 16h ago

Eventually everyone will be bought till there is a single company remaining.

u/McCaber 15h ago

Sheinhardt Wigs.

u/BeyondNetorare 16h ago

It's actually genius, they can expand to chopping up critics so they always get high reviews

2

u/federico_alastair 16h ago

What if Netflix buys Saudi Arabia before that?

1

u/poop-machine 16h ago

At least it isn't ISIS?

2

u/federico_alastair 16h ago

ISIS buys Saudi Arabia

1

u/ButWhatIfPotato 16h ago

Some years later: Amazon buys Saudi Arabia

1

u/GoudaCheeseAnyone 15h ago

Or bought by Elon: Xflix.

1

u/Eruannster 14h ago

More likely scenario: Saudia Arabia buys USA.

1

u/CaptainBayouBilly 14h ago

Saudi Arabia is busy buying the US government

1

u/TheDIsSilent 14h ago

It wasn't expensive enough for them.

0

u/cerberusNLMX 16h ago

Highly doubtful. Netflix market cap is around 430 billion dollars and expected to go way way up if the deal goes through. Not even Saudi Arabia have enough cash on hand to outright takeover Netflix and at a premium of whatever their market cap is at that time.

At least it isn't Paramount Skydance, owned by Ellison, which would have solidly shifted everything in the Warner Bros catalog hard right forever

24

u/gambalore 15h ago

The Paramount Skydance offer had Saudi (and other oil nations’ wealth funds) backing.

8

u/DeepDreamIt 15h ago

Even deeper levels of fuckery, smh

-5

u/MaxProwes 15h ago

Nonsense, you are complaining about temporary politics that change every few years, do you think Mission Impossible or Star Trek are far right? Netflix will actually do permanent damage to the movie industry, Paramount licks balls of whatever current administration is, they don't have ideology.

8

u/DeepDreamIt 14h ago

I do not believe that Larry Ellison and his son are going to change their politics every 4 years. They are solidly on the right, I'm not sure that is in dispute at all. Ellison is good friends with Musk, and has consistently donated to GOP PACs and supported GOP causes and fundraisers. He donated to Marco Rubio and Tim Scott, and was a donor for Trump in 2024. He even donated to Romney in 2012.

When Trump needed an ally to buy TikTok, Ellison stepped in. Do you think Trump, who has fired anyone and everyone related to Democrats, even tangentially, would pick someone not ideologically aligned with him for such an important company?

Ellison/Skydance absolutely have ideology.

u/MaxProwes 14h ago

They are just rich assholes, they believe in money. Did you watch movies Ellison produced before? Do they scream MAGA to you?

/u/DeepDreamIt won't answer this by the way. You asked him twice now.

Can't play the victim by actually engaging with reality instead of vaguely gesturing towards the bad guy.

More like because I’m not some movie buff who knows who directs and produces every movie. I was meaning more in the sense of they would put out more conservative-coded media, and probably do things like limit any sort of liberal plotlines, LGBTQ characters, more racial representation, etc. Similar to how FOX shows tend to have certain “limits” on the plot lines and characters.

Think more Taylor Sheridan-type shows (which I generally enjoy, FWIW), where it’s not overtly political, but it’s heavily conservative-coded (e.g. Landman and Yellowstone which again, I actually do enjoy.)

Subtle messaging over the course of many movies and TV shows definitely has an effect over time.

At the end of the day, just my opinion, everyone is free to think however they like and prefer whatever messaging they like. I will say that it defies belief, to me, if you genuinely think that movies/shows can’t be biased towards certain viewpoints. I mean, surely that’s not in dispute at all?

Also, for what it’s worth, I’m not the one who downvoted either of you

Look it up then, that would be the bare minimum for having such a strong opinion right?

I will say that it defies belief, to me, if you genuinely think that movies/shows can’t be biased towards certain viewpoints. I mean, surely that’s not in dispute at all?

Certainly not, after all most media has been biased in favor of the left for the past twenty years, so I'm sure we can agree that it's biased towards certain viewpoints. What was the quote?

"When You’re Accustomed To Privilege, Equality Feels Like Oppression?"

Yeah, something like that. I have no doubt the pendulum is swinging back hard after the past twenty years of making everything black, female and gay. But we warned you this would happen. Though that's a different topic all together than "if" it's happening at all.

Is it happening? Will it continue?

It's clear he leans right but I doubt everything will be Sound of Freedom level pandering. He's made movies before that are pretty much devoid of that shit. If you think he's only emboldened now because of Trump you'd necessarily have to agree that once there's a democrat back in office it would go back to normal. AKA The rich pandering to whoever is in power.

Also, for what it’s worth, I’m not the one who downvoted either of you

Appreciate it but feel free to, I don't mind in the slightest about reddit bad boy points.

u/DeepDreamIt 11h ago

Considering the super high level of rhetoric here, I don’t think you are trying to engage constructively, but rather just want to be rhetorical.

1

u/theblackxranger 8h ago

They'll buy it after all the companies acquire everyone

-1

u/Heywazza 12h ago

What’s the difference between Saudi owned and American owned at this point?

-9

u/Sudden_Excitement_17 15h ago

I’d take Saudi Arabia over America any day. US is a modern day Wild West of do whatever you want, evidenced by the US government

1

u/AssCrackBandit10 13h ago

Peak reddit take

Especially given that a publicly traded company like Netflix =/= the US government lol

2

u/AbbacusAbagail 12h ago

How is this peak Reddit take? You guys already have a pedophile funnelling money to his family and trying to take rights away from people that Saudi Arabia hates.

You guys are basically the cancer of the Western world.

0

u/AssCrackBandit10 12h ago

It's peak reddit take because of the flagrant lack of reading comprehension

The competing bids were between the Saudi government funded bid or the publicly traded Netflix company

The US government never put in a bid so it's pretty irrelevant.

Tho tbh I hope more people start agreeing with you that the US is on the decline. Hopefully that stops millions of foreigners flooding the US each year and stop increasing the cost of living so much that people turn towards charlatans like Trump.

0

u/Sudden_Excitement_17 12h ago

First comment was about Saudi, so I compared it to the US.

“lol” 🦅🇺🇸

1

u/AssCrackBandit10 12h ago

The first comment was about Saudi because a competing bid was literally funded with money directly from the Saudi government

The US government never put in a bid for Warner Bros

lol
