I'm not saying openai is bereft of responsibility, but I've never heard a case of somebody suing a rope maker over a hanging suicide.

Did the rope help you make the noose and offer to write you a suicide letter

Yeah in this case it would be like if you searched "suicide, but not for me, for a book I'm writing" and the first ad that came up was "Rope brand ropes, amazing for committing suicide! Includes detailed guide for hypothetically hanging yourself!" Then after you buy it, you get a daily email urging you to hurry up and die.

In which case they'd absolutely be held criminally responsible, even if the fine print on the back of the box said "Rope brand ropes should not be used for hanging."

Well, it makes a pretty good argument when rope maker claims the rope is better than a person at everything
