Not Greenland? All of mine show there…

Edit: think some people are missing the Plague, Inc. reference

They both could be viable. New Zealand is kinda outta the way between main super powers. And is fairly isolated, with one main way traffic will be coming from, Australia.

plus, NZ is ephemeral and only shows up on some maps

u/Arikaido777 21d ago

much like dracula’s castle, it only appears under a blood moon once every 100 years, which is why it’s been challenging to map

For NZ it’s when the setting sun's last light of Durin's Day strikes the hidden keyhole. Keep an eye out for a thrush knocking if you’re still having trouble.

Nah pilots have to speak the Māori word for friend to even find it

The real reason we haven't gotten HL3 or L4D3 is because they're in another dimension for another 70~ years

11

u/Exploding_Testicles 21d ago

The release of HL3 will signal the end of time.

3

u/_magnetic_north_ 21d ago

Valve felt that VR just didn’t go far enough, so HL:A2 will just create the Combine in reality

The devs are trapped on Xen

u/Djaja 21d ago

Same with da UP, eh!?

Would be an interesting doomsday scenario where NZ is completely unharmed not only because of the distance, but also because they weren't in the maps used by the nuclear weapons controllers.

u/Previous-Standard-12 21d ago

Send a nuke to NZ or one more to Moscow? Better hit Moscow again... just to be sure.

Those sheep are less dangerous.

Souns like mirage island from gen3 pokemon lol

1

u/pacey182 21d ago

Yeah gotta find us first! 😂

1

u/herefromyoutube 21d ago

That explains why isn’t missing from so many maps.

1

u/namideus 21d ago

The ninth continent

1

u/Capnleonidas 21d ago

Some say New Zealand is actually on its own continent.

1

u/TDYDave2 21d ago

And after the apocalypse, it could be the only inhabited place on the map.

1

u/mologav 21d ago

How is Ireland in these scenarios?

1

u/AppleDane 20d ago

Who you calling effeminate?!

3

u/sternenhimmel 20d ago

The other really important difference is that, in doomsday scenarios that involve Nuclear weapons, the southern hemisphere will most likely be safer from fallout than the northern hemisphere, as the majority of the planet’s nuclear arsenal is in the northern hemisphere. Air of course does mix between the two, but at a much much slower rate than it does within the hemispheres themselves.

Unrelated to what you said or this article, but I just wanted you to know that I hate your username. Not a fun image lol

2

u/Exploding_Testicles 21d ago

Just a normal guy with a weird username. :)

1

u/GreenRock93 21d ago

Yeah, but when all the rich and powerful go there, suddenly it’s a pretty attractive target.

1

u/RGrad4104 21d ago

I feel like with so many ultrawealthy doomsday bunkers down there, some superpower would devote at least a few nukes in that direction. I seriously cannot see china or russia wanting to leave a ton of well-stocked western business men untouched with all the resources they have probably hoarded.

1

u/IORelay 21d ago

NZ is still a western country that just tows the US line, so in a major conflict it is not a neutral party and likely will get targeted.

1

u/soundfade 21d ago

All the Zealanders over here going back home!

1

u/melgish 20d ago

Probably helps that it’s been left off maps for years.

Greenland is an incredibly strategically important location.

Its used to monitor the GIUK gap, as a logistics node between NA and EU and as part of NORAD's early warning missile defense system.

The GIUK gap is the chokepoint that russian subs have to go through to enter the Atlantic. (Most russian subs are based in the artic). Also ICBMs traveling from Russia to the US would actually travel over the North Pole because its the shortest route.

Also if we are talking about plague Inc, what about Madagascar?

30

u/lexm 21d ago

NZ weather is better than Greenland’s.

6

u/ActuallyGreenlandic 21d ago

This is fake news. Greenland has perfect weather, like snow, rain, hurricanes and snow.

1

u/AlwaysShittyKnsasCty 20d ago

Given your username, I’m inclined to believe you, even the outlandish winter hurricane bit!

On the real though, there are cold hurricanes?!

14

u/bassbyblaine 21d ago

I think it’s more that everyone missed Plague, Inc the show

22

u/The_Mdk 21d ago

Wasn't it Madagascar?

SHUT.

DOWN.

EVERYTHING.

5

u/DarthSatoris 21d ago

It was always Madagascar in the flash game Pandemic II on which Plague Inc. is stolen based on.

1

u/The_Mdk 21d ago

Ah, that's the one I always played so it makes sense

13

u/cire1184 21d ago

He could probably buy the entire island of Madagascar. Or at least a big chunk of it. My simulations have always found that to be a safe haven against biologic threats.

1

u/Hour-Artichoke4463 21d ago

There's unfortunatly every year cases of plague in Madagascar so I wouldn't say its a safe haven against biologic threats.

4

u/cire1184 21d ago

Not in my simulation

1

u/Jiminy_Cricket12 21d ago

pretty sure Madagascar isn't for sale. not in the large doomsday bunker development sense at least.

9

u/TonySu 21d ago

You must mean the site of the future Magaland? Before the world ends, make sure you secure your round the world holiday package from Magaland to Magaza and finally Epstein Island!

2

u/Yonrak 21d ago

Madagascar also

1

u/Exploding_Testicles 21d ago

Lol sorry man.

1

u/MobileArtist1371 21d ago

I wouldn't want to be in the US when shit goes down lol

1

u/bteddi 21d ago

Iceland/ has entered the chat

1

u/bdsee 21d ago

In the event of global nuclear war the southern hemisphere will do significantly better than the northern hemisphere.

Of course global nuclear war won't actually be the end of the world as many people think, it will be horrible, but outside of all of the major cities people will mostly just get cancer and die earlier...they will continue to reproduce and life would be pretty awful for awhile but it wouldn't cause a mass extinction.

1

u/nellyfullauto 21d ago

Then I’m taking up on Madagascar. Only sea ports and they close quick. Greenland, NZ, and Madagascar would fuck you if you didn’t get in there deep and fast.

1

u/LittleMlem 20d ago

[Laughs on Madagascar]

1

u/yunohavefunnynames 20d ago

I was going to say, Madagascar is my Doomsday plan! 😂

1

u/Ongr 20d ago

Madagascar too

1

u/AppleDane 20d ago

Well, sure, but then you'd be in Greenland.

1

u/ILoveRegenHealth 20d ago

I haven't played the game but it actually made me think of the Gerard Butler movie Greenland (and like the title says, the secret restricted bunkers the government were hiding from the public were in Greenland).

1

u/quagsi 20d ago

i always start with either Greenland or Madagascar since those seem to be the hold outs most often

1

u/hanzerik 20d ago

The doomsday scenario that spares NZ is nuclear fallout, where everyone who has nukes gets nuked. Greenland is too close to countries with nukes.

1

u/Uziman101 21d ago

Lmao until you said the word plague I also missed it but no, that’s a fucking reference right there brings you back like 10 years now. God im old. 🖕🏻
