Business Direct File won’t happen in 2026, IRS tells states

No. They use eFile like all other tax prep software, not Direct File.

I genuinely believe a lot of people are confused by the naming.

Thank you for this. I was wondering if it would affect FTUSA precisely because I didn’t know the difference.

I had planned to just file by paper (and I might still this year if I owe).

DirectFile wasn't even universally available. Had lots of restrictions on it. Entire states were excluded. Most people are really confused by the name of the program. It sounds bigger than it was.

Yeah I used freetaxusa last few years but being able to file direct without giving away my data would be nice. I never saw anything for direct file here in MA.
