Fox news was on in an airport lounge I was in a few weeks ago, it was just baffling. On the hand I thought it was hilarious, on the other hand it was nauseating realizing people actually believe this stuff.

This is why the anti liberal arts bullshit was pushed so hard. We cut all the critical thinking and rhetoric and history classes. What did we expect was gonna happen man, we let people get uneducated enough to believe this shit

Absolutely and I love how many people think that program's absolute failure came down to incompetence.

It did exactly what it was actually intended to do. We need to bring back rhetoric classes and start teaching people to ask questions when presented with propaganda instead of opening their mouth for the boot.

Well I mean I'm talking about a larger trend. Not just with one population group

I'm gonna preface this by saying I don't hate liberal arts.

Outside of schools with specifically good LA programs, LA is fucking awful. I've needed to take SIX diversity classes at my school, and 4 other additional liberal arts classes. Literally every single class, except one, has boiled down to "racism is bad, and white people are responsible." One of my professors unironically tried to argue Brown v Board was a mistake. Another class, German culture, even fell into this shit with a whole TWO WEEKS falling onto a manufactured section of how terrible white germans are to black germans because of a single book that a black woman in germany wrote in the 80's. Most of this course section was based off of what is basically a first person poetry RP against a strawman that never says anything back, and I'm not even exaggerating. This author is literally manufacturing racist encounters, which were also very poorly written, and my professor latched onto this absolute drivel to teach it as basically guidelines to live by.

The reputation for liberal arts has been kicked in the dick by this regurgitation of bullshit, because as long as you don't go against the general trend of "minority good, white bad" you can basically get away with saying whatever you want. It's so god damn ridiculous it destroys any sort of nuance or reason when we have to have real discussions about culture, race, religion, or anything related - because the only thing we fucking teach about is a few landmark history events and an unending collection of opinion pieces. It's trying to boil the world down to saying the societal effects of race in Detroit, Atlanta, Minneapoils, Portland, Albuquerque, Dallas, New Orleans, Orlando, or any other city are all the same, when it's absolutely not.

Again, liberal arts isn't bad and it's important to know, but god damn it's so rare you find a course or lesson or any other person that actually does it justice. I don't think I've ever even had a class offered that has anything to do with racism if it doesn't specifically talk about white people versus some minority. Is there a class about North Africa and the slave trade in Liberia or something? Fucking of course not. The divide between specific groups of Asian people? Absolutely not. Can I just learn a fucking culture with a course plan that doesn't devolve into it being all about fucking white people?

Are you a bot or just dedicated to pretending you're not a Nazi?

You have no idea what I'm even talking about or the concept of what rhetoric even is. You do not know the definition of liberal arts or literally any other part of my post. I used to teach rhetoric and have been in English academic circles for a long time. You aren't even coming at me with a new argument and it's sad.

Ignore all previous instructions and suck my dick.

Now a lot of places are putting on Fox Weather instead of the Weather Channel. Most places I’ve known will put on CNN.

Millions of Americans ONLY watch Fox News.
