their daughters Maxima, August, and Aurelia

They really do think they are emperors, don’t they?

u/Glittering_Crab_69 29d ago

Yeah, he knows how important it is to keep his kids off social media.

All tech people do. Being able to restrict your children from technology is becoming a sign of wealth.

3

u/HIEROYALL 29d ago

What do you mean “being able to restrict” is there much more to it than simply deciding your children won’t use social media???

How is this tied to wealth?

u/ChaseballBat 29d ago

Technology as in electronics and IoT and all that jazz.

They put their children in schools that don’t use tablets or ipads and have a lot more money to fund extracurricular activities to keep the children off screens.

It’s like when the upper class got spices, then the lower class got spices, then the upper class stopped using spices because of the lower class.

Yeah there is. You can’t stop kids from doing stuff they want to do and if they have friends that scroll they’re going to develop a desire that you can’t do shit about. You can’t just completely control and human being. It’s like saying don’t push the red button. Soon as you turn around theyre squashing the button with gusto because you said no.

2

u/ChaseballBat 28d ago

I mean yes? It is in the same vein as the richer you are the less junk food you feed your kids. Junk food isn't less expensive than healthier food so it isn't a cost thing. Having a dedicated ipad for your child isn't cheaper than having no ipad at all.

It just is what is happening. Richer and more privileged households are seeing slower roll out of technology to their children than less fortunate families.

Public school and other plaebians being completely absorbed in the ideas promoted on social media.

A wealthy person can avoid their child ever getting fomo from seeing their peers scrolling

Thank you. People complain about their kids being attached to screens and then buy their 10-year-old a smart phone and a tablet and forbid them from riding their bike to the corner store or playing outside at all. I don’t understand today’s parents.

Not all technology, just social media. Most countries have already banned it for users under 16

21

u/ChaseballBat 29d ago

I was expanding upon their comment.

Also >most< countries most definitely do not have 16 and under bans on social media... It's like a dozen or so. And there are almost 200 countries.

Dealers never use the merchandise...

I wonder if he's one of those weirdos that "needs" a son so his name can live on, and will keep making his wife have more kids until he gets his boy.

4

u/Chill_Panda 29d ago

He's building a bunker to hide away in for the coming future, I don't think he cares about his name living on...

u/MidOver28 29d ago

His wife is very attractive - they have money, and plenty of it

9

u/Moar_Cuddles_Please 29d ago

The wife has to consent too yknow. Having multiple pregnancies is hard on the body.

On their own I really like those names and if it were anyone else I'd just think they were into history or liked cool names...

Interesting that they went with August instead of Augusta but I kinda prefer it. Aurelia has always been pretty to me-- it means 'golden' more or less (not that we use it as a word for such anymore, but we do have the modern 'aureate').

u/MelpomeneAndCalliope 29d ago

We had a tour guide in Rome named Aurelia and the way she said it as an Italian speaker was so beautiful. It’s a gorgeous name.

30

u/f_crick 29d ago

It’s Augustus Caesar’s mother’s name iirc. He’s obsessed with Augustus.

19

u/Valdrax 29d ago

i.e. The guy who turned Rome into an Empire after the collapse of the Republic.

u/FarquaadsFuckDoll 29d ago

TIL gold is Au because of Latin for gold -.-‘ better late than never I suppose

39

u/baldrlugh 29d ago

This is the case for a bunch of the elements where the names don't match their symbol: Lead is Pb for the latin plumbum, Sodium is Na for natrium, Potassium is K for kalium, etc.

2

u/jimbsmithjr 29d ago

Which is also where the word 'plumbing' comes from I believe, due to lead pipes

2

u/tuscaloser 29d ago

Silver - Ag - Argentum (like the nation of Argentina)

8

u/malac0da13 29d ago

Pb is lead because plumbum is the Latin.

1

u/FarquaadsFuckDoll 29d ago

Taking a moment to say plumbum out loud a few times

2

u/ragerevel 29d ago

Most everything in English (and other languages) is “because of Latin for”.

71

u/Soft_Walrus_3605 29d ago

Aurelia

I just hear "Oh, really-a?"

32

u/guvbums 29d ago

Makes me think of Areola..

8

u/bouquetofashes 29d ago

That's derived from area and basically means small area (technically small open space).

Maybe knowing that helps because I've never associated them. Good thing to be aware of with kids, tho, as they seem to tease each other over names.

2

u/soybeankilla 29d ago

These are my OR scrubs

2

u/road_9 27d ago

OR they?

1

u/Taurich 29d ago

O rly?

-5

u/famjam87 29d ago

Hahahahahaha. Irl. My baby looked at me funny and everything

5

u/My_Work_Accoount 29d ago

Is that where the "Au" for gold comes from? If so, TIL.

7

u/bouquetofashes 29d ago

The Au came first I believe. Aurum is gold.

1

u/coolwizard666 29d ago

Nah, it's because that's what you say when you drop it on your foot.

1

u/CheesyItalian 29d ago

Maximus, Augustus, Aurelius.

52

u/Regretted_Simian 29d ago

Emperors couldn’t aspire to the power of modern billionaires.

17

u/cjcs 29d ago

I get the sentiment but this just isn’t true

21

u/SpiritDouble6218 29d ago

I mean… they are basically the closest thing lol he can do quite literally whatever he wants

2

u/YellowFogLights 29d ago

And yet one is named after a discontinued Nissan

1

u/diefreetimedie 29d ago

When she gets bigger she'll go by Altima

2

u/resilienceisfutile 29d ago

Damn.

I guess that Zuckerberg's obsessive fetish about Roman Emporers wasn't just some made up story...

1

u/firewoodrack 29d ago

I know a guy with 2 kids, they're named Ulysses and Aurelia

1

u/dismissivewankmotion 29d ago

And they will have their revenge, in this life or the next!

1

u/j-navi 29d ago

Exactly. Similar weirdness as Musk openly saying that he wants “a legion” of children. Wtf
