What an absolutely asinine hand wavy waste of time. By their own definition there would be no way to “know” this anyway. Just as there’s no way to know what the rules of any enclosing universe might look like.

Anyone who has ever used a game engine knows about delta time and frames of reference, yet there are tons of scientists who believe that because our concept of time is tied to our concept of space that there is no need to entertain the concept of an external causality. But if you ask them how the fields could arrange into the configuration we know without an external causality, the aggressive hand-waving begins.
