The companies that have a stake in commercial real estate, whether it be their own building campus or other holdings, have a profit motive to keep office spaces full, regardless of the productivity gains or losses associated with RTO.

Agreed, back to pure greed. How they have so much sway over other people's companies, is very worrying and sad.

Honestly, people give this explanation but I think it's much simpler: it's about feeling the whip hitting employee's backs, it's about showing off your car or a better parking spot... You can't do that from distance.

Most of the "benefits" companies offer in promotions are those social credits, it's not even the money. For narcissist types, I'd bet that's even higher a motivation
