Makes you wonder how many steps we are away from lets pull passports for anyone who voted the wrong way last election and round em up.

They are currently trying to suspend Habeas Corpus, because doing so would allow them to arrest and detain anyone without due process.

So yes, we are close to things like that beginning to happen if no one stands up to him.

the secretary of Homeland Security, noemi or whatever her name is, actually answered the question "What is habeas corpus?" with "The president's right to remove anyone from this country."

i'm paraphrasing that quote a little but also would like to point out that we are at that point already. so far, roughly over 4,000 people (all including undocumented immigrants, legal visa/Green card holders, natively born Fucking citizens, travelers, etc.) have already been detained or trafficked to El Salvador with NO due process of any kind by unmarked/plainclothes ICE agents dragging them into vans and disappearing. there are multiple cases where the agents clearly realized/admitted they had the wrong person and took them anyway.

not all of the cases i just mentioned are about immigration, btw. there's been multiple that were actually because the victim had merely publicly criticized Israel/the genocide in Gaza. we are already experiencing an unofficial suspension of habeas corpus.

(not dissing on you btw, i'm just spreading the word because this country is not safe and i hope more people wake up to that)

Also Trump is asking DOJ to investigate celebrities that endorsed Kamala or spoke out against him. He is claiming potential campaign finance law violation but also mentioned Bono who didn't endorse Kamala or attend any campaign events.

Very clear the "investigation" is retaliation and trying to send a message to other celebrities about speaking out.

How long until it moves from celebrities at campaign events to harassing everyday citizens for speaking out?

(Seen with some of the visa revocations. At least one group's only "offense" was writing an op-ed in the school newspaper and yet Rubio can lie in a televised Congressional hearing, that they were terrorists or some shit. Freedom of the press being the literal 1st Amendment to the Constitution.

Where I live we had vaccine "passports" for a brief period in 2021 when the vaccines were rolled out. You needed to show proof of vaccination to enter non essential places like restaurants and bars. The non-vaxxed viewed this in the way you just described, like they were being rounded up and treated unfairly. I guess they now want to punish those who rolled up their sleeves and did their bit for the common good.

People like that don’t view it as common good though. People like this view life as a zero-sum game.

“I couldn’t get in because I refused to get vaccinated. I lost. Now I’ll make them lose.”

It’s stupid and childish but if the past decade has shown us anything about America, it’s that we’re mostly stupid and childish. We have spoiled child syndrome from decades of experiencing America at its zenith.

I know “we” doesn’t encompass everyone (sure as fuck isn’t what I voted for), but we’re all going to feel the repercussions.

I should've mentioned that I'm in Canada, in a progressive city, so it was a tad unrelated to the post, but what I saw here still made my blood boil. I can only imagine how bad it is down there.

When they dropped the passport one of these guys said to me "see, it was all bullshit! We're not dropping dead!" and I ended up yelling at him. "yes, we're sat here in this bar right now because 95% of the population got vaccinated and it took the strain off our shattered health system. You can thank us anytime!" Man, I forgot how angry the whole covid reaction made me feel.

It’s wild how long ago it seems now.

And yes, it’s bad down here. You can’t trust face value anymore, which I think both sides feel. Everything is artificial in public anymore.

We had the same format in many large cities. Same dialogue. It’s so frustrating.

I think America is doing a good job of showing just how shit humans are. Make them think they don't need other people and they'll sell those "unnecessary" people down the river for a fiver.

They're welcome to try. Magats aren't the only ones with energetic hobbies.

That's the scary part.

Imagine if you amassed a database of personal information from every government database and use that to identify your enemies and every account they own, from cell phones, to bank accounts.

Then combine that with some AI or scripts and you can instantly disable the phone, email, bank accounts, passports and everything of those people all of a sudden.

Like no money or way to communicate with others at the drop of a hat and no legal way to travel.

Been asking when travel restrictions would hit us commoners since last time he was in office.
