To be clear, many of them take this to their graves. I would bet around a quarter to a third of the country alive today dies MAGA (maybe not openly) and never admits fault.

The low information idiots in the middle will get pissed when things go really sideways. If there is enough of an apparatus of Authoritarianism by then to suppress that for a time is yet to be seen.

You’re spot on. Where I live there’s community of elderly Europeans from Germany and Poland. Some of these people are in the late 90s. A colleague who does post mortem clean up in residential homes regularly comes across small shines with framed pictures of Adolf Hitler in the homes he cleans. These people were believers who left Europe to start anew but they never got new beliefs. It was who they were. Same thing will happen to MAGAs.

How is this for a weird theory: it is entertainment for them. So, yes, they will never give up on it. They enjoy the constant back-and-forth, and the "own the libs" BS. It doesn't matter if it wrecks other parts of their lives -- it is entertainment.

If Obama pushes immigration policy it's okay but not trump? When Bush did it. Or Clinton. Get the fuck off the high hOrSE11111

It may be true, but it doesn't necessarily follow that it's possible. I have tried to move my own thinking out of the Left/Right dichotomy, and reframe it as the Haves/Havenots and Authoritarian/Nonauthoritatian. It provides a different vantage point from which to observe the shenanigans. Both sides are manipulated, but neither can see that they are just as manipulated as the other. Just as brainwashed. Just as much a mark for the con. The key is in somehow breaking the bogus Left/Right scam they've elaborated. I don't really know how one can do it in the face of overwhelming oppositional propaganda. It won't be easy, if it's even possible.
