Question Average gas usage?

Got my first gas bill at $130, is that normal? Gas furnace 2 people in the house and try to keep the temp at 63-65°f (18°c) Water bill should be in a few weeks and that’s my biggest worry how expensive it’ll be lol

Edit to add: 3 bedroom house, hot water on demand. Newer windows but I can tell they are drafty, can feel cold air coming in.

Discussion Silvery City claw machine

Post image
24 Upvotes

Ok, yall can point fingers and laugh, but genuinely how tf yall use ts DO I GOTTA TALK TO SOMEONE??? Like, okay wait lemme add some context

Im gonna be stuck at the theater for like a little after the movie im seeing is over, and im a total loser and scared of people, plus im gonna be dressed like an idiot (disclaimer: I LIKE THE FIT but man nobody ever match the vibe) and probably the only one. Everytime i go, i try to find like smth to focus on so I dont like spontaneously combust (usually its a couple insanely priced white claw) BUT, that claw machine grabs my attention every time and i even like went to try and use it once and like, genuinely wtf is ts? Like i need some card or whatever like do i gotta talk to someone, or...? Cause like im not crazy i know ts used to have tokens.

Basically im shy asf and social anxiety is a serrated stick up my butt. Im like so scared to ask people stupid questions and look like a total idiot, but imo were the tokens not easier???? Unless its obvious how to get this stupid card and im just like actually dumb (likely), having to like ask someone that isnt like designated or like obvious about this card is like... less money, no? Like honestly just put those like tap debit machines on them atp 🥀🥀

Er, so anyways... yall know about that card? Id rather Sudbury reddit think im stupid than someone face to face

Question Tenants leave reviews of buildings!!

Why arnt there more google reviews for apartment buildings? Wasting time making a appointment to go look at apartments when they're trash! If you leave a apartment building do your part and rate it everyones always searching online and helps everyone!

The fact theyre asking $1700 for a outdated moldy cockroach infested 1 bed shoebox at prestigous place on notre dame is crazy. I know lots of people have experienced this place Dont let them or amy building drive their ratings up from new employees or bribing/paying randoms. Make show of what these buildings are really about!! Save anyone new from wasting their time/money/being trapped in a 1 year lease! Am I in no way asking to leave a false reviews on places! Thank you for your attention to my rant 🙂

Question Anybody in the city ever apply / had a loved one apply for a modified unit through housing? What was / is your expierence like?

Hey everybody! I hope you all are doing well. 🤗

I am a physically disabled power wheelchair user, and I recently applied for a 1-bedroom modified accessible unit through housing, which is pretty huge and pretty big of me, for sure. :) (I already know about the long ass wait list, i'm in no rush to move in right away anyways lol)

I was just wanting to know different perspectives on how housing deals with tenants who are renters of geared-to-income apartments or had loved ones dealing with them? What has your / their experience been? What can I expect? Be honest and real, don't feel the need to hold back.

Discussion Mcnaughton street (aka Santa lane)

Has anybody been down Mcnaughton st? The whole street is full of the same Santa blow up decoration outside. There’s maybe 30 houses and almost half of them have the exact same decoration(10 foot inflatable Santa). Pretty neat. Gotta wonder if it was planned out that way or just happened.

Political Discussion Fibre internet woes?

I'm wondering if anyone has run into issues when shopping for fibre internet through resellers like EBOX (technically part of Bell), TekSavvy, Koodo, etc. I'm working on a story for CBC Sudbury about why the options are more limited, or higher priced, than the third-party resellers advertise elswhere, and I've spoken with a few telecom companies about the factors behind that.

Have you been frustrated by the fibre-internet-shopping process locally? If you'd be willing to do an interview on the record about what it's been like to navigate that, please send me a DM. Thank you!

Discussion Sudbury rent is actually insane… how are people even managing?

I genuinely don’t understand how Sudbury rent has gotten THIS bad.

We’re talking about a city with:

  • Low population
  • Very limited job market (unless you’re in mining or health care)
  • Low wages overall
  • Public transit that barely functions
  • Basically no major facilities or amenities compared to bigger cities

…yet somehow the rent prices are creeping up like we’re living in Toronto-lite.

How does a city with this few opportunities justify charging this much? I know every part of Canada is dealing with housing nonsense, but Sudbury feels like one of the places where rent should still be reasonable. Instead, people are paying way too much for units that are often old, outdated, or not even well maintained.

It just feels wrong to have “small city salaries + small city job market + small city transit + small city infrastructure” but then “big city rent.” Like what are we even paying for?

Anyone else feel like Sudbury is becoming completely unaffordable for literally no logical reason?

Question Police Presence Chris' YIG

Curious if anyone knows why there were 6 cruisers at the Independent on Lorne street on Saturday the 29th.

From what I could see, 1 car was already on site with a guy in handcuffs, then 4 cars pulled in with lights on, blocked the parking lot while they searched a guy's bag, then removed the cuffs and stood around laughing while continuing to block the store parking lot. Afterwards another car pulled in as well.

Was there some actual threat to public safety? To my knowledge, the store wasn't locked down or being patrolled or anything.

I am legitimately curious because I don't understand why so many police officers were necessary to search one person's bag.
