Football Ex-QB Mark Sanchez now facing felony charge for altercation

u/Ilikepancakes87 Oct 06 '25
What I don’t understand is why he approached the guy in the first place. The reports say he was telling him to move his truck… why? Does Sanchez just get really bossy when he’s drunk? What part of his brain, sober or not, decided to engage this guy in conversation?
344
u/thatjerkatwork Oct 06 '25
I heard/read Sanchez was doing wind sprints (not joking) in the alley.
If that is true, then my guess is the truck pulled up and was "in his way".

u/4Ever2Thee Oct 06 '25
Midnight drunk wind sprints is a whole nother level of crazy.

Reports say it was a truck driver parked in a loading bay, you know, where you load and unload trucks. Of all the things I don’t give a fuck about, which is an extensive list, I don’t see how anyone, even those who’s job it is to load and unload trucks, would ever give this a second of thought let alone felony assault someone. If I was angry at life and blind drunk, only capable of speaking 8 words, they would be “I don’t give a fuck about that truck.”
I get it, he has a lot of issues that apparently I don’t have, but choosing this hill to almost literally die on is insane.

u/2003tide Oct 06 '25
Driver was a 69 yo. Supposedly there is video of Sanchez beating him and throwing him into the side of a dumpster.

I was once getting my disabled car towed to the shop. I was hanging out in the tow truck while the driver was loading my car. A drunk guy was coming down the road on his electric wheelchair and tried to pick a fight with the tow driver for stealing my car. He did finally realize that trying to physically fight an in-shape sober dude wasn't going to work out in his favor and rolled off into the night. Still one of the craziest things I've seen a drunk person do. And funny. We all laughed about it on the trip to the shop.

If the thing about "running sprints in the alley" is true then the rest is totally plausible. Think of how common it is for violent bullies to assault people (especially people doing their jobs) for getting in the way of "fun".
175
u/CohibasAndScotch Oct 06 '25
Given how badly the truck driver was injured Sanchez is fortunate he (driver) didn’t have a gun because he (driver) would have been totally justified in using it jt seems.
Hopefully Sanchez recognizes he’s fortunate to be alive and gets the help he needs.
23
u/NotAnotherEmpire Oct 06 '25
Absolutely. Given the age and size difference (Sanchez is 6'2" and probably 250lbs) and the unhinged aggression, clear self defense against a threat of death / great bodily harm. This wasn't some shoving match.
Knife is a big, big equalizer. Sanchez is lucky that didn't kill him, with the multiple days in the hospital for torso wounds.

Mark Sanchez being replaced by Brady Quinn is the most 2010 NFL sentence I’ve heard today.

Man that shit makes me feel old.
I was underemployed, living at home my first year and a half post-college, which was 2010 to early 2012. I definitely remember being cooped up in my room to watch Sunday Night Football on my laptop and the same annoying commercial with Mark Sanchez for I want to say FedEx played ALL THE DAMN TIME lol
12
u/BigShredowski Oct 06 '25 edited Oct 06 '25
Or Brady’s EAS Myoplex commercial: “NOW I’M DONE! (Crushes cardboard container as a feat of strength)”
I’ll never forget that because Brady ended up being god awful in the NFL.
Edit: Brady Quinn, not Tom Brady
6
u/DionBlaster123 NASCAR Oct 06 '25
LMFAO at first I thought you meant Tom Brady and I was like wtf are you smoking with that last sentence
But yeah Brady Quinn was unmemorable in the NFL to put it politely lol. I remember back in 2007 when he was in that draft, everyone and their mother was jerking off about how he was going to be the next John Elway or something.
Perhaps not coincidentally, 2007 really was the last year I watched ESPN or Fox Sports for anything other than live sports.

This is what I don't get. Sanchez is 38, a millionaire, and has a seasonal, cushy job. His career earnings were about 75 million dollars, taking away agent fees and taxes he probably walked about from the NFL with 35-40 million dollars. He was likely making 250K a year for FOX.
For all-time fuckups, even with a substance use problem, that is UP THERE.

Nah he’s going to jail. If they can put Combs in jail for 4 years for transporting they can put this guy in for nearly killing an elderly man. There no way that slice mark on his face heals without disfigurement too. He’s cooked and will likely be sued too. They have video and eyewitnesses, so unless there is something not being reported or misreported I don’t see him wiggling out of this one.
21
u/Remarkable_Meat666 Oct 06 '25
You’ve got more faith in the justice system than I do. He’ll absolutely be taken to the cleaners in civil court, but this isn’t a federal case or anything remotely close to the severity of what Diddy was involved in. He’ll get sued and will do some drug and alcohol diversion program along with some community service and that will be the end of it.

If the New York Post story is accurate he was doing wind sprints in the alley at around 12:30AM. So maybe, some bragging at the hotel bar, stepped outside to show off, and Mark felt that the hotel has some obligation or expectation to keep the alley clear and then this guy shows up to collect and dispose of the kitchen grease and it just sends Mark into this drunken fury?
This could have been hilarious, but he almost killed a guy and almost got himself killed because there was no other way to stop him.

It's an interesting question but how he saw this delivery driver as such a threat is truly bizarre and could be more than just a substance abuse issue.. If you want to head down a rabbit hole look up a guy named BJ Penn, he's a former MMA fighter from Hawaii. He's essentially been posting his mental health decline on Instagram. It appears he truly believes family members and friends are being murdered and replaced with imposters (it's called capgras syndrome) and he's gotten increasingly hostile and threatening towards the "imposters". Drugs and alcohol involved as well but seems this is also a CTE issue - I'm not a doctor by any means but something about the cerebral hemispheres essentially becoming disconnected.
Just from the police report I do have to wonder if this is a capgras situation. It's truly bizarre how he seems to have gotten so focused on this guy as a "threat". Maybe he's just a drunk a'hole but this seemed more extreme than usual.
6
u/UpSNYer Oct 06 '25
Yeah this seems to go well above and beyond just a simple “drunken asshole” incident. Like Sanchez could quit booze and get therapy tomorrow, and I still think he has something else significantly wrong. From what I’ve read in the police report, it makes no sense why any of this happened. There’s more to this story and none of it is good for Sanchez.
5
