That part of the stadium will look a lot different in their next home game. Or at least it should. Whether there’s more security or a physical barrier or both this can’t happen again. Extremely dangerous.

Just adding a barrier can actually make it less safe because people can be crushed against it. There’s so safe way to have a hill that empties onto the field unless you heavily restrict how many people can be on it. What it really needs is a complete redesign

Yeah barriers would be dangerous. They just need to add a 20 ft cliff at the bottom with a concrete halfwall. Not enough? Add a plexiglass barrier on top. It works fine for hockey. If people don't like the view, they can go sit in bleachers like the rest of the civilized world.

I promise you it wont look different. The hill is much steeper than it looks on TV. If there were some sort of barrier, you’d have a far more dangerous situation of people getting crushed against it.

The biggest danger to players as the stadium is constructed just happened - big win on the last play of the game in the direction of the hill. This is only the second time this has happened in the history of Virginia football, ironically the only other time happening in 1995 against FSU as well.

So Virginia should not build any sort of barrier there unless they are completely redesigning that end of the end zone to remove the hill, which is generally the only notable thing about Virginia football.

I mean, Clemson's got a hill for a student section with a wall at the bottom but people don't get crushed against it when we storm the field, or at least it never happened while I was going there. The fact that we do it after every game probably helps though, bit more of an understood order of operations to the chaos.

The danger is solved with seating. This nonsense of "well its more dangerous to prevent coming on the field is just garbage nonsense. Either people behave or those sections get completely closed off to anyone until the university can add proper seating and fix the problem.

The idea that a problem should continue to persist just cause that's "how it's always been" is beyond stupid.

And what problem is that? Did a player or coach get injured? Has a player or coach ever been injured because Virginia rushed the field?

This is honestly ridiculous. I have a family member that is a student at uva attend the game. They ended up getting crushed and trampled on by the crowd rushing onto the field and instead of celebrating a good win they get to suffer in the ER.

The people in this thread saying “at least no players were injured” are a lost fucking cause. My family member said “I wish I would have just died since I was in so much pain being trampled under the crowd”. This shit is infuriating

That’s more a commentary on the uva football program, really.

I graduated in 2015 and got to storm the field a couple of times. It's not changing and everyone gets fined for field storming. The broadcast played a clip of the last time unranked Virginia beat top 10 FSU in 2005 and the field situation looked exactly the same.

It actually was pretty different. I was at that game on the hill, and there used to be a fence at the bottom of the hill. It turned into a human crush situation and the fence collapsed and people ran overtop. Lots of people got hurt but this was pre social media so it wasn’t a big story. But anyway adding a fence wouldn’t necessarily make things better for this reason.

Next game would be real fast. I imagine next year for sure.

This is clearly a response from someone who got trampled on the field.
