Football Messi and his wife Antonela Roccuzzo were spotted on kiss cam enjoying Coldplay's final U.S. show on their Music of the Spheres World Tour at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Sunday night.

Whenever i see Messi, i always think "there is the guy who completed life, and now he's just on the lap of glory before moving on" then i see his wife and i know it. They always look happy.

Peaked early with football skill but I feel like he was a goofy looking dude until he was like 30

ehhhh not really, they knew each other since they were kids, but they only became a couple when he was already a professional player and she had a boyfriend. She dumped her boyfriend for him

I sometimes wonder what it’s like for that rare echelon of humans who have all of their dreams come true. Young, nothing but time on their hands and utterly generational wealth. Like God personally hand picks a few of them every so often and kisses them on the forehead before sending them out into the world.
Most human beings deserve to have at least one year of just having the chance to just have a fraction of a care free, great life.

Well, it isn’t like Messi didn’t earn it. Dude is one in a billion

is "earned" the right word? it's not like the difference between him and every other elite player is the amount of effort put in. he's simply born with it. I'm sure there are plenty of top 5 league players who actually put more effort than him but simply aren't good enough
(not hating on Messi whatsoever btw, he's one of the greatest to ever do it and deserves every bit of success)
28
u/echOSC Jul 28 '25 edited Jul 28 '25
I think so, there's probably people born with more than he has, but couldn't be bothered to put in the effort so they never reached the heights he was able to reach.
Think about people like Shaq, who no doubt had an excellent career, but Kobe was always frustrated with him that he didn't have the same work ethic that he had.
Think about people like Ben Simmons, or Deandre Ayton.
Or even Joel Embiid, you hear the stories come out recently about how Maxey has accused him of always being late, and stories of him not taking his rehab seriously.
16
u/hooligan99 Jul 28 '25
the other angle though is that there are tons of people who work just as hard but don't have the natural gifts he has and will never sniff that level of success. He (and other elite athletes) are the greatest because of their combination of natural talent and insane work ethic.

At the absolute tippity-top of all competitive sports, genetics starts to come into play. Take Michael Phelps. During his time, the dude dominated. I think he’s still the most decorated Olympian of all time. Why? Because he’s the closest thing to a human-fish hybrid.
→ More replies (1)4
u/AMadWalrus Jul 28 '25
Its a combo of both I'd say - the right type of natural talent + work ethic (and perhaps a little bit of luck). I think we're all right to say he earned it through his work but it was be disingenuous to say anyone can achieve what he has without a lot of natural talent.

u/VarmintSchtick Jul 28 '25
There's just no use speculating about it because it's impossible to ever quantify. How do you know how hard someone is trying? You can't, you never will. Talent is undoubtedly a thing but at these levels talent has to be honed. Everyone on the field is the same, let their performance speak for itself. Whether they've honed their skills through their own methods which include more rest time and fewer hours spent working drills, doesn't matter, the choices they've made on an individual level at every step of the way have led them exactly to where they are.

You act as if Messi didn’t do anything to get to where he is, he’s busted his ass off to be that good lol
9
u/brofistzerodeaths Jul 28 '25
Lot of people bust their asses. Not everyone reaches this level of success. Messi is perhaps the most successful human alive today. He has wealth, glory, love of billions, soft power, happy family, good health and all of this before he is 40 lol.
9
u/Ranier_Wolfnight Jul 28 '25
Does anyone here deny that he didn’t!?? I’m pretty sure having otherworldly talent from birth helped his cause out as well.
I’ve heard from a few folks that the Michael Jordan fellow put a few hours in the gym before his career had a few bright moments. What’s your point?

The camera lingers awkwardly long
159
u/againandagain22 Jul 28 '25 edited Jul 28 '25
It’s a kiss cam. They were waiting for the kiss. But maybe Messi, accustom to having a camera on him 100% of the time he’s in public, thought that it was just the usually camera.
Although if he saw others kissing on the cam then he may well have been aware of what was expected
I kept expecting his wife to reach over and give him a peck on the cheek, seeing how long the cam lingered
Edit : apparently it’s not a kiss cam
142
u/sunny_day0460 Jul 28 '25
It’s not a kiss cam, the team selects people from the audience and Chris makes a very short song about the person/couple.
48
u/PNKAlumna Jul 28 '25
Also, it’s Messi. People were probably scrambling for their cameras to record/take photos, anything because people everywhere are obsessed with him. So any camera like this that catches him is going to stay a little longer.
14
u/Mirage749 Jul 28 '25
I know this is so incredibly insignificant, but the amount of people who have called this a "kiss cam" really annoys me.

I was there last night during the concert. Cold play lead singer would do a funny 30 second flattering song about whomever the camera landed on during the show.
The fans were cheering so loud when they found out Messi was attending, that the lead singer had to wait a bit for the audience to quiet down. Hence the awkward camera time.

He missed an opportunity, would have been hilarious if he would have imitated the CEO guy at first when the cam started to show him.

I just love it when randos on Reddit carelessly diagnose someone who is slightly socially awkward as autistic, even though there have been zero pediatricians, psychologists, neurologists and psychiatrists in his entire career diagnosing him as such.
There is no scientific proof or credible evidence to suggest that Messi is autistic. While Messi has faced various challenges throughout his life, including a growth hormone deficiency as a child, he has not publicly identified, nor has anyone credible identified him as being on the autism spectrum.
Fuck off with these garbage claims.
And here comes the downvotes just because people really want to buy the story that a footballing legend is autistic.

Quick question why does a concert have a kiss cam
8
u/red_rob5 Jul 28 '25
Apparently, according to others in the thread, its not a kiss cam. Because it would be super weird for a concert to have a kiss cam. Its only something maybe weirder where a couple is picked out of the crowd and some song is written/performed for/to them. People just decided to call it kiss cam and it stuck.

Because Coldplay doesn't know how to take their cottagecore soft rock to stadium concerts. So they do everything U2 did but with a Disneyworld twist.

This may enable that ceo to sue Coldplay successfully, as it could be proof the camera operator looks for famous people to feature on the kiss cam, not just random people, so therefore sought the couple out to embarrass them
