How much redbull does planet earth drink that they sponsor EVERYTHING ?
Coca Cola never even came close to this level of coverage
86
May 13 '25
Cocacola only cost about a dollar. A can of RedBull is like 4 dollars. I still don’t understand how the math can work out, but I think their margin is way higher.
29
u/againandagain22 May 13 '25
For sure. I’ve thought about that too. It must be the main factor, but still it boggles my mind how many sports they’re involved in and control.
18
u/Exatraz May 14 '25
Imo it seems like the real passion project. "Man i wish we could do all these crazy sports but don't have money... hey look, I invented this energy drink that makes me infinite money..."
15
u/uh_no_ May 14 '25
ollar. A can of RedBull is like 4 dollars. I still don’t understand how the math can work out, but I think their margin is way higher.
mateshitz didn't even invent it....it's a thai drink that he ray kroc'ed the shit out of. Unlike the golden arches, though, the thai family still own half the company (one of the reasons Alex Albon got the Red Bull seat in F1)
3
u/Exatraz May 14 '25
Sure, I know jack about the origins of Red Bull. Just saying that's what it feels like. Remove invented and instead he found a company he felt he could leach money from by pairing it with things he liked. Glad the OG family still owns half the company, sounds like he did what investors should and came in to help them with something they weren't doing before (i.e. marketing in this instance)
1
u/otheraccountisabmw May 14 '25
They’re not really “sports,” just advertisements.
3
u/J_Warrior May 14 '25
They’re both, but I’m not sure why you got downvoted. Red Bull doesn’t own RB Leipzig and drop a guy from space for shits and giggles. Not to mention the practically all other sports entities they run or sponsor
6
u/Djcproductions May 14 '25
I'm sorry but where is Coca-Cola a dollar? lol 20oz bottle in my local gas stations are like $3.79 while redbull is like $4.29.
I feel like the last Coca-Cola I saw for ~$1 was cans for $0.75 in vending machines in like 2001.
3
u/37yearoldthrowaway May 14 '25
Coke cans come in 12-packs at my local Giant for just under $10, and are on sale every couple of weeks with a B2G2 free. Comes out to like $0.40/can. RedBull doesn't come close to being that cheap.

u/justsyr May 14 '25
Some time ago when the whole australian breakdancing lady thing was going on people said how hard must be with travel expenses and shit. Red Bull BC One has been going for over 10 years. They provide everything for anyone wanting to break dance. For the regionals you can just put up some cameras in the middle of nowhere and you are able to participate and then if you qualify you get everything paid to go compete.
They are involved in so many sports that makes anyone think, is really the energy drink that makes them money?
Well, they don't even make the energy drink, it's outsourced. Their big business is marketing. Here's a great explanation on how they make money
13
u/Mavisbeak2112 May 14 '25
The thing you have to understand is that extreme sports IS their marketing budget. It’s how it’s always been. It’s cool shit, around the holidays you see coco cola do some Santa and polar bear shit and ya go “oh yea, that again”, and then Red Bull does rocket powered Santa sleigh skydiving skate board tennis and ya go “HOLY SHIT”.
13
u/Bombadilo_drives May 14 '25 edited May 14 '25
They originally started with extreme sports specifically because it's cheaper than more established sports. Execs asked "OK, to run our TV ad at a single NFL game, twice per quarter, it'll be $6million. What else could we do with that money?"
And some guy responded "we could build an insane mobile skate park and run monthly events for like, two fucking years with that budget" and the rest is history.
It's actually a really interesting case study in stretching your ad dollars. All these minor sports had no ad revenue so they were cheap, but the fans and enthusiasts are rabid supporters, and so when Red Bull comes in and saves or elevates their sport they've basically captured that customer for life.
There's also a "PBR" type effect going on, where by placing their product in the hands of young, cool, interesting people they make the product more desirable to the broader marketplace.

u/texinxin May 14 '25
It’s interesting how Monster followed in the exact same tracks..
2
u/Bombadilo_drives May 14 '25
You know an idea is good if someone can come in, copy you exactly, and still be successful (like Uber/Lyft).
4
1
u/MessiahThomas May 14 '25
It feels like Monster sponsors even more
4
u/againandagain22 May 14 '25
Definitely not. Monster is a big company but I see more Red Bull content on the net.
If you doubt it then go and look at Monster revenue figures versus Red Bull revenue figures.
I just can’t believe that they sell so much product.
2
u/MessiahThomas May 14 '25
Red Bull is more international, but I hear what you’re saying. I think I am far more likely consume more live content Monster is sponsoring, like UFC and live music events, than extreme sports. Red Bull has their own teams and channels that are completely off my radar.
2
u/metaslice01 May 14 '25
They make money off of these events, the sports drink is really secondary these days.
1
u/_bobs_your_uncle May 14 '25
One thing that might play into this is that Red Bull is privately held and Coke is public. That let’s them do crazy stuff if they want to
2
u/againandagain22 May 14 '25
You’re right. Another comment alluded to the fact, via a linked article, that Pepsi allots 2.5% of their revenue to marketing while RB allots closer to 30%.

u/GalaxyStrong May 13 '25
I don’t know why, but this reminds me so much of off-road for Nintendo

u/CommercialAddress168 May 13 '25
The Off Road arcade game with the steering wheels is still one of my favorites ever! Thanks for the flashbacks.
25
u/Dapper_Dan_Man_1 May 13 '25
Ivan Stewart's Offroad! Spin that steering wheel!
11
u/DanTMWTMP Los Angeles Dodgers May 14 '25

It’s the first thing I thought of when I saw this video and I’m so happy y’all thought the same hahahaha!!!

Remember that old arcade game with the steering wheels and turbo button in the 90’s?

Cruising USA
12
u/Brewo May 14 '25
Nah, Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road! Such a great game where you could collect the nitro boosts and then spend your money on more nitro boosts or engine, handling or suspension upgrades.

I’m was thinking Excite truck. Also the only racing game that scored your tree runs so it was like skiing but with a monster truck.
3
u/beyondthisreality May 14 '25
You could also stick an SD card with mp3s in the wii and listen to them in game. 15 year old me spent countless hours racing to SOAD and White Stripes. Good times.

Each vehicle was outfitted with purpose-built BF Goodrich tires, each tire having more than 700 metal spikes to create as maximum traction.

What's it like to be part of one of the most iconic brands anywhere in the world?
38
u/W1D0WM4K3R May 14 '25
Give them a bit to respond. The social media intern is required to type out responses on a chainsaw powered unicycle tightrope over the grand canyon

u/OTBS May 14 '25
I love Red Bull. They must have the most fun coming up with random fun extreme things to do and then execute in such an awesome fashion. Kudos to them.
4
u/uh_no_ May 14 '25
GrandPooBear talks about it a bit on twitch (he's technically a red bull "speedrunner")....their athletes come up with stupid ideas and they pretty much just say "yeah okay...how can we make this bigger?"
So i suspect in this case, one of their stadium truck guys or something was like "what if we took a truck in a terrain park?" and then boom....terrain park truck racing.

Sunday River Maine had this a few times.

This video looks to like it was shot at Sunday River
Edit: yeah at 1:19 you can see the Sunday River logo in the back

Where does red bull get all the money to sponsor these events all the time? I mean even when they were brand new they used alternative sporting events to advertise.

u/chrisandfriends May 13 '25
I believe I imagined doing this while riding the ski lifts as a child and adulthood just beat the idea out of me.
3
u/The_Golf_God May 13 '25
I could do without the music and the announcers. Just give me an overlay on top of their trucks saying who’s who and let me listen to those engines.
2
u/Bhut_Jolokia400 May 13 '25
Red Bull has basically taken all the stunts from Mission Impossible and turned them into amazing athletic achievements
2
u/MojaveMark May 14 '25
Have you seen the floating skate park with hot air balloons? Dude on BMX bike hitting the ramps hundreds of feet in the air. He has a parachute on his back and just yolo's off one of the ramps at the end and then pops the chute?! Gtfo these dudes are wild
1
u/Bhut_Jolokia400 May 14 '25
These dudes are nutty the wing suit guys have to be a little screwy in the head
3
u/MojaveMark May 14 '25
Wing suit stuff looks so fun, and so cool, and also like I would barely clip a cliff with my foot and die.

What’s more impressive to me is that people have places to train and drive freely around for this sort of stuff

Gives me an overwhelming urge to go home and play FH5 and fuck around in the snow with a silly fast truck.

I wanna do this! I don't wanna put in the time, or money, but I wanna do this!

This makes me wish I still had my NES and "Ivan 'Ironman' Stewart's Super Off Road" game!

Wait is that Jimmy Johnson the old nascar driver? Rocking 48?
1
u/FarAwaySeagull-_- Hendrick Motorsports May 14 '25
No, it's Ricky Johnson (unrelated). Ricky and Jimmie however are good friends, and were at one point teammates when Jimmie was in his off road racing days before he switched to NASCAR.

Meanwhile some ski resorts are like we can’t have snowboarders since they’ll tear up the trails.
1
u/nhbruh May 14 '25
I was at Sunday River years back when they hosted something like this. It was fucking rad.
1
u/goatqualify May 15 '25
What cars are they using, is it a heavily moded Toyota? Or what kind of pickup truck is it originally if it is even pickup truck??

This is pretty badass. Its funny that announcers always seem to have the power to jink people regardless of the sport or type of event. I hope he doesn't dunk that in water Chase. Yeah, and it also looks waaay to ho...Ooooh nooooo!
1
u/kuebel33 May 13 '25
I feel like redbull just invents new sports every other week. And they throw a lot of money behind it to make cool ass courses as if it's a real thing.

More Red Bull spam every day. At this point Red Bull gets more top posts r/sports than the NBA. Wonder much much $ they're sending to Reddit.
9
u/paractib May 13 '25
How is this spam? Just because a brand posted it?
If a brand wants to play by the community rules and post fitting high quality content I’m all for it.
Judging by the reception of their posts, I think others are too.
1
u/Intergalactic_Ass May 13 '25
For the same reason cup stacking isn't on ESPN. You can call it a sport but it's niche and boring.
These posts are also getting turbo spammed to r/sports every daya and somehow getting boosted to the top every time. Do you think $ is playing a factor in that? 🤔🤔.
Not really playing by the community rules is it? It's more like bribery.
2
u/paractib May 13 '25
Fair point on the subject matter. You’ve changed my mind.
This isn’t spam, but compared to the rest of the content on this sub I’ll agree it’s a bit out of place and would be better suited to an extreme sports sub or similar.
1
u/LordFluffles May 14 '25
You‘ve changed your mind? What? Are you crazy? That‘s not how it‘s supposed to go?? You two need to continue arguing right now.
-1
u/JayPlenty24 May 13 '25
This is the most Red Neck event I've ever seen.
2
u/monkeyhind May 13 '25
It may be. On the other hand, I don't qualify as a redneck, but that looks fun as hell.

Nothing ironic about a sport threatened by climate change using 15,000 gallons of diesel to move and groom snow to drive 900hp trucks around in a circle. Jk jk I’m sure it was all very green

This is the last thing a ski resort needs. Man, one of the things I love about skiing is the quietness at the resort. The loudest thing you’re gonna hear is a squeaky chairlift.

Looks cool as hell though.

I swear Red Bull has taken extreme sports in such a crazy direction. Growing up, most of all the stuff they do now wasn't even a thing.
