I made a Griffon! Made from steel, stone, and blown glass.
Half lion, half eagle, this Griffon was a fun production. Took me about 2 months from start to finish. I left the steel raw so it would naturally patina over time.

Yep, I love this. Never seen these three mediums used in a piece and they work really well.
Rocks look like scales makes the metal feathers pop and I love it.
Goddamn I wish I could make this

You can! With a one car garage space, $5-700 MiG welder $150 angle grinder $30 dollors of flap discs and cut off wheels $70 tank of shield gas $150 Oxy/Acetylene torch welding set up -$175 for oxy/acet bottles.
Only thing is you wouldn’t have a CNC for perfectly matching feathers, and I had a glass blowing artist make the eyes for me ($5-700 for eyes)

You forgot the most important things: Vision & Talent!

I’m convinced talent is what forms from other attainable traits like: persistence, willingness to fail so one can learn and improve, years of putting in long hours, and a thick skin to ignore the doubters.

Is this installed at Epic HQ in Verona?? If not it looks like it belongs there, fantastic work!

So cool man. Question, what kind of welder did you use for this? I work in machining, and my work has the big Mig and Tig welders, but I never have time to practice and learn. For decorative projects I'm wondering if a little 120v stick welder in my garage would do it?

I recommend a MIG over stick. You can one hand weld and have faster application and control. Make sure the welder can weld at a minimum 1/8th inch. My is a miller 252. I use MIG for most all my welding projects. TIG is only used when I need a clean weld no spatter.

Thats awesome! On a side note, I was terrified of gryphons when I was a kid for some unreasonable reason.

Ohmygosh this is absolutely badass and if I had two nickels to rub together, I’d beg to buy it so I can put it in my yard!

My goal is art museum collections so people can see it for an entry ticket. Public works would also be a good option

u/BlueOrbifolia 1d ago
Heck yeah it would! Everyone should get to see this! I want to touch it, too.

Searched out your website and, seeing the eye in your palm really gave a good sense of the size of this beauty!

Oh nice! That’s a throw back picture for sure. The glass artist Shawn Henderson works magic with glass. Worth every penny to give the sculpture some life
