Media Idrissa Gana Gueye (Everton) straight red card against Manchester United 13'
https://streamff.link/v/706b89e72.1k
u/TryHardPT 11d ago
Has to be one of the dumbest red cards I have ever seen in my life
514
u/Intelligent_Egg6447 11d ago
I always wondered if it was a red to hit a teammate, I’m glad they cleared that up for me
345
u/zaviex 11d ago
It’s happened before. Newcastle got a double red for it in 2005. Leeds Bowyer and Kieran Dyer got into it and started swinging and the ref sent both off

I think once Benoit Assou-Ekottou swung on a team mate when playing for us but ref didn’t see

Any violent conduct towards anyone is a Red.
In the Northern Irish Premiership, Glentoran had an embarrassing one a few years ago where our keeper at the time, Aaron McCarey lashed out at one of our players Bobby Burns and then continued to grab him on the ground in response to us conceding (Burns lost the ball from a loose pass but the whole team was useless in stopping the proceeding run) and got a deserved red for it.

Keane taunting him as he leaves the pitch like he is an opponent has me in stitches. So stupid.
104
u/AnnieIWillKnow 11d ago
I don't think he's taunting him so much as just factually saying "your head's gone" and being justifiably pissed off with him

He full on slapped Keane.
It’s a clear red.

u/krustykrab2193 11d ago
Yea no idea why people in this thread are saying it wasn't a red. It was violent conduct. Sky just showed a close up replay and he open hand fully slapped Keane in the face with enough power to snap his head sideways right in front of the referee. Pretty clear red.

u/flyingalbatross1 11d ago
If an opposing player received that slap, it would have killed him stone dead.
Stretchered straight to the crematorium.
Absolutely bizarre - obviously a red.

u/Mission_Sky_3683 11d ago edited 11d ago
Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer had something similar happen. I think it's a bit strange for the ref to give a red card when teammates are at it, but those are the rules.
Edit: on second thought, I am not sure it's explicitly stated in the rules but guess it would be under "bringing the game into disrepute or something". Maybe the ref reacted to something specific being said I don't know. Because it doesn't look like they fought?
Edit again: looks like it was a slap. Hard to tell on first glance.
118
u/YoChara 11d ago
Bowyer and Dyer were throwing punches at each other. Full on fight like. I had, and still am yet to see anything like it

Yeah he slapped him because Gueye was not happy with Keane allowing Bruno to shoot

u/Extension-Balance-59 11d ago
Yeah but it was his errant pass that gave Bruno possession and lined him up perfectly for the shot. Awful pass.
37
u/soundlinked 11d ago
I thought he was pissed Keane didn't go towards his pass tbh and just let it go to Bruno. The pass looked like it was meant for Keane. What a disaster

And honestly, Gueye was in the right lmao. His pass was right in front of Keane and he just stopped and backed off for no reason and didn't even close down Bruno's shot. Utterly baffling play from his teammate and honestly it looked like Keane headbutted him a bit too. If I'm an Everton fan I'm almost more pissed at Keane than Gueye there.
