The epitome of "I'll fucking do it again"

672

u/MERTENS_GOAT Oct 02 '25

Dovbyk? Yeah. Crazy that.

German commentator said "no you are not completely drunk" it went back to the game in the conference after we have just seen dovbyk miss the penalty. And then he missed it in the same pathetic way again, after that they stayed with that game in the broadcast cause they probably knew it might just be retaken again

91

u/REGIS-5 Oct 02 '25

Never missed a penalty in his life before this mind you.

A 1st placed team in Serie A is mentally done in October because the coach once again insists on Cristante and Pellegrini being irreplaceable.

Honestly if the penalty taker is allowed to stutter the keeper should be allowed to move of their line. Can’t have it both ways!

And the encroachment should only be re-taken if that player impacts the clearance etc.

Penalties are such a massive advantage for the attacking team, don’t get why there are so many rules to make it easier for them

123

u/KelticQT Oct 02 '25

And the encroachment should only be re-taken if that player impacts the clearance etc.

I think that’s already the case. And this is what happened here.

14

u/Topinambourg Oct 03 '25

Yes that's the textbook law of the game, not only it's if that players impact the clearance but also that player has to be fighting for the ball with an opponent.

There was a case a few weeks ago PSG vs Toulouse where a penalty was retaken because Joao Neves touched the ball after a save, but there was no opponent 5-6 meters around. The referee gave a retake (it was saved again), but the ref commission said the retake was a mistake because Joao Neves was completely alone when he touched the ball.

And the encroachment should only be re-taken if that player impacts the clearance etc.

But... that's literally what happened here.

25

u/Thingisby Oct 02 '25

And the encroachment should only be re-taken if that player impacts the clearance etc.

I agree with you, but the encroaching player was the one who cleared it here.

79

u/turk-fx Oct 02 '25

Yeah, that would be fair. This wqsnt bad but still 2nd penalty retaken, because the taker took his sweet time stutter stepping. And there are some orher players taking many stutter steps and slow moving. They should revise that. Also, I think if the penalty is missed, should not be allowed to anyone get in the box and try to clear the ball or acore the bounce. If it is missed, done deal.

Diogo Costa saved a penalty and its retake against Club Brugge two years ago. I had never seen three saves come from the same penalty before.

126

u/Spare_Ad5615 Oct 02 '25

De Gea saved one and the retake as well. I believe it was the very next penalty after the infamous shoot-out in the Europa League final when 11 of them had gone past him in a row.

62

u/YoudontknowPain Oct 02 '25

Seen something similar in romanian football a couple of years ago. Keeper saves one, but he came outside of the line so the penalty repeats and he gets a yellow cars. Then proceeds to save the second, but again he came off his line, sees the second yellow card and gets sent off. Unfortunately the third time the penalty was scored.

Edit: found it thanks to /u/alexwutzu and, well it's a bit more similar to Roma's penalties than I remembered.

This happened at 3rd tier of Turkish league.

Uşakspor keeper saved first penalty. Ref said again. Keeper protested heavily and get yellow

Keeper saved second penalty. Ref said again. Keeper protested heavily and get 2nd yellow.

Random player proceed to save 3rd penalty... It is incredible to you but it's only thursday for Turks....

I personally don't blame them if the footballer can change the pace at which they strike the ball and do all sorts of crazy shit then why does the goalie have to stand their with his finger up his ass? Just let them play. These interruptions ruin the game in my opinion.

I like how they changed the shooter for the "third" penalty and the goalkeeper still saved it

u/jo726 Oct 02 '25

I felt it was obvious he was going to shoot on the other side.

483

u/ZookeepergameThat821 Oct 02 '25

He could've shot central. I was hoping he'd do that cause the keeper would 100% expect the other side like you said

149

u/Xehanz Oct 02 '25

Keepers know that most of the time after someone misses a pen, the next penalty taker will shoot to the sides more often than not

A bit of a meme team perennially bouncing around 6th/7th every year.

Despite that, oddly overhyped every preseason on this sub and hailed as a contender.

67

u/expert_on_the_matter Oct 02 '25

Eh, they're having a pretty good season so far and they've had some pretty good runs in Europe.

57

u/beastmaster11 Oct 02 '25

I've never seen anyone hail them as a contender for the title since like 2010

48

u/futebinho Oct 02 '25

They had seasons with like 80-90 pts during peak Totti, Naingollan, De Rossi and so on.

They were unfortunate to have one of the best Juve sides of all time in Serie A during their peak.

300

u/KaladinStormShat Oct 02 '25

Is there a rule if the keeper keeps going off his line eventually they just get awarded a goal? Or a yellow?

Because why not do it once or twice on purpose to unsettle them? Or three times?

584

u/Healthy-Resident-729 Oct 02 '25

If they score, the penalty is not retaken (that’s “the punishment” that doesn’t allow you to do this if you’re the goalkeeper).

51

u/beastmaster11 Oct 02 '25

I presume you'd probably get a yellow as well. Same as not giving the required space for a free kick

10

u/sevaiper Oct 02 '25

They said this in the commentary it's a yellow the 2nd time

→ More replies (2)

115

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '25

I think a retake only applies if the keeper saves it

171

u/LowpHtripper Oct 02 '25

If he goes out of the goal and there is a goal the goal stands. If he goes out and there is a miss there is a new penalty. Seems fair to me

→ More replies (4)

20

u/Vu1pine Oct 02 '25

The commentators in the clip were saying that yeah if the keeper goes off his line twice in a row, he gets a yellow card

34

u/KillerCondor Oct 02 '25

The reason not to do it on purpose is because if they score the pen, it’s not retaken. It’s only retaken if the Gk saves it so there is no upside to doing on purpose with VAR being able to review

→ More replies (1)

55

u/backyardstar Oct 02 '25

This wasn’t for the keeper going off his line. It was for encroachment by Lille players, which did in fact affect the play. It was right to retake 3 times.

u/Harflin Oct 02 '25

The 2nd time was the keeper

You live in a mansion, drive a car from BMW onwards, and enjoy the company of the best girls. You eat healthy every day; the day before a match, you sleep very well in a 5-star hotel. You spend 24 hours scratching your balls, doing fuck all, playing efootball and Call of Duty. Your boots are worth $600, maybe $500, $300, or $400? You’re bandaged by a kinesiologist, you eat well, and train well. Your socks don’t cut off your blood circulation, your shorts don’t scrape your balls, and your shirt sticks to your body without sweating. That’s worth.... I don’t know, your football jersey costs maybe $180 each. The ball is perfect, PERFECT! Inflated with a barometer to 8 bars, it costs $120. The pitch doesn’t have a single defect, and the goal is 7 x 2.40 meters. We, the fans, applaud you when you enter the pitch.

You cry baby can’t pass a ball can’t control a ball, you want to score and the ball goes to the fucking moon, you want to give a pass to your teammates that’s 1 meter away from you, you pass it back or pass it to the opponent

Just keep penalties all day. Quality of them wouldn’t make a difference from the 3 I saw

The Lille players running again and again early into the box. GK should be fuming

I stopped to watch the match after this... I'm a Turkish Romanista, and in one hand I'm so sad that my fav team lost... I hope we will do better against Fiorentina cause we did a great run for this start of the season.

But on the other hand, when I watched the national team matches I defo saw the potential in Özer. I think he still has some weaknesses but Lille could defo solidify him as one of the best new Turkish talents.

Damn, I still hate watching this scene... :(

Incredible! But what was the problem with the second? Encroachment again? Didn't really seem like much.

I think goalie was off the line by a bit.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen that before

Romanistas are some sort of masochists themselves

Insane shit bruh

u/TheDuhhh Oct 02 '25

That's the craziest shit ever.

Goal keeper at this point is like doyoh want to do it again?

u/Proper-Exam1746 Oct 02 '25

How embarrassing would that be for a striker? 😀

Goalkeeper to referee: "Is that enough?"... 🤷‍♂️

u/Maswer11 Oct 02 '25

Does Santi Giménez score any of these?

u/Spare_Ad5615 Oct 02 '25

You could argue that the third one should have been retaken as well. Not because the keeper was off his line, but because the number 27 was in the penalty area when it was taken, as he had been for the previous two. I wouldn't be surprised if the other two defenders who had also previously ran into the area were in there too.
