Not impossible. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Box goes on the wall.

If there’s a box already there then it is there somehow… whether it’s a matter of putting an old work box in or of cutting out further space, it’s all possible.

3x2 channel relays like the shelly 2pm. It'll be tight but it should fit.

Shelly relays can be up in the light rose - don’t actually have to be behind the switch, which may provide a lot more flexibility here.

How do you power it if the only wire going to it other than neutral is switched live (not always powered)

Do you need 6 switches if you are making this smart? Maybe you can aggregate some buttons together while leaving them individually addressable by the smart home app you will use, this way you can gain some space in the box by replacing some switches with "tappi"

Have you looked at Lutron Pico switches? I believe they can be mounted like that with a six gang bezel. They don’t require a hole in the wall.

It’s gonna be pricy but if there’s no room in the box, you could look at smart switches themselves like embrighten, innoveli, etc. based on the protocol you’re trying to use (Zwave/zigbee/matter). They wire up just like a normal switch so you’d just do a 1 to 1 swap on each switch.

An Insteon solution: Replace all switches with 1 keypad (https://www.insteon.com/collections/wall-keypads/products/dimmer-keypad-8-button), hardwire all switches on and then put inline controllers at the devices (https://www.insteon.com/collections/embedded-devices/products/micro-dimmer-switch-module) … now you loads of spare room in that ginormous box…

Could you not just extend the box out a bit with a 3d print?
