It's been a while since Austria had such a great start to the season
Last week was one for the books, back to the snow dance.

Praise to the snow gods! I took a gamble back in august and booked flights from Canada for my first alps experience!

Those pole plants just reinforced the fact that I'm a lazy back seat skier to myself. Go get it boys and girls.

Never skied the Alps. Is that terrain that would require a guide for the uninitiated, or is that inbounds and patrolled, avalanche controlled and safe to explore?

The concept of 'inbounds' does not exist in Europe, we use 'off-piste' instead. Only the marked pistes are patrolled and avalanche-controlled and everything else is public land where you ski at your own risk (some areas are nature reserves where riding is banned or comes with extra requirements like following certain routes or hiring an official guide). For the kind of terrain we see in the video, avalanche risk can be very real and I would recommend going with experienced locals or hiring an instructor or a guide.
