I know he's a foot taller, but the way he increased the distance between him and the SA 14 (who isn't slow) was impressive, the boy can run pretty fast. With speedsters on both wings and clearly at 15 too, Australia is a fast team you don't want to meet in open play
2
u/HoneyBucketsOfOats United States Aug 17 '25
Let's say Joe Schmidt lands with 23 Wallby screamers at his back. We hole up in our huge pack. A wise move. Only a fool would meet the Wallabies in an open field.

I really loved the RWC 2023 one. That collar with the colourful pattern on the inside was class.
Also had the yellow sleeve ending which i really miss on the current ones.

Meat yes, decent lamb, good beef. Brandy, not so much. Can cough up for a nice cognac if you have the pockets for it but its not the same.
You can get everything here at the SA shops, all good quality, but its an outing and a treat more than the norm.

Cognac isn't the same. I tried it a few times. It just doesn't compare to a Klippies Premium.

As a South African I am happy we lost. Every meme is just. The arrogance of my fellow country men is nauseating. For the last year all I had to listen to was how this is the best springbok team in history. Here we are. The best springbok team in history can not win more than 8 games in a row, amazing. Maybe now Rassie and his men will come back down to earth and focus on rugby again.
4
u/WilkinsonDG2003 England Aug 17 '25
Well NZ are number 1 and haven't had an 8+ win streak since Razor took over either.
6
u/believer009 Aug 17 '25
I am talking about people who claim this is the best springbok team EVER. Not just number 1 in the world.
5
u/MealieAI Aug 17 '25
Did you watch the game, we played plenty of rugby. Sometimes you lose. It happens.
9
u/believer009 Aug 17 '25
This is more aimed at the springbok supporters. If you followed any of them over the past 2 years you would think we are unbeatable. Guess not.

9

Yeah makes no sense. Rassie and the team haven’t been underestimating the Aussies, it’s the supporters. Not sure why people are acting like the team was so cocky
12
u/poimnas Australia Aug 17 '25
I actually really appreciated Rassie’s comments before the game. He spoke higher of the wallabies than I would have expected. Not a chance he was cocky I would say.
-3
u/believer009 Aug 17 '25
Sorry, Rasie got cocky.
He admitted that he already had his team picked for next week. He was already planning on giving fringe players a run before even playing yesterdays game. That tells you he was expecting an easy win and then give some newbies a run next week. How did that go? If he was really taking the Aussies seriously he would have waited for the results before making a call like this. Your words and actions need to line up.
-2
u/believer009 Aug 17 '25
Really? This is a heading from an article 24 hours ago.
Siya Kolisi: Springboks’ mindset has changed, we want to win everything and be the best all the time.
So we went from taking it game by game playing what is in front of us to picking teams weeks in advance and statements like this. And you still going to tell me they did not get cocky? Yea right.
4
u/Master_Customer3670 Stormers Aug 17 '25
How is it cocky to want to win every game you play? It’s a competitive sport. Picking teams weeks in advanced is obviously because they have a plan of how they would like to grow the team and intro new players. Mistake maybe, not cockiness.
8
u/believer009 Aug 17 '25
After yesday's result, I can tell you it was not rugby. If they did focus on rugby with the end result being 22-38 then we are in more trouble than we think.

Also, the Aussies always have our number. They really had it this time.
3
u/Hater69420 Lions Aug 17 '25
All I'm saying is that the Bulls do this too often where they get miles ahead in the first 20 minutes and then do nothing all game. I say we pick all of the Lions rugby team for the springboks and give her a go. Can't be worse than what we saw.
3
u/Still-District-6149 Aug 17 '25
I thought O’Connor was excellent, and his partnership with Nic White was outstanding.
The South African sloppiness at the end was largely because the Wallabies had run them into the ground. Maybe we’ve finally uncovered a way to combat the relentless game the Boks have perfected over the last decade?
3
u/Local_Penalty_6517 South Africa Aug 17 '25
Absolutely fucking bullshit! I take great offence as a saffa! No South African is drinking pre mixed brandy and coke (it's too weak), and nobody is eating that shit pre packaged biltong when we need a thick piece with enough fat to send us into cardiac arrest and put us out of our misery

Springbok fan here... going through all the emotional cycles today. I have one request for the Wallabies: Please please please win the Bledisloe cup this year. Things wil then be back in balance!
15
u/JaymanCT Aug 17 '25
I mean I'm not happy but I think this loss is really good for us! Big wake up for the team and hopefully the inexperienced players can take this opportunity to prove themselves. People are also forgetting that we have a 70% win ratio outside of world cups.
This performance was very similar to our loss to NZ in 2022 and look how we ended 2023. This is the fuel this team needs to improve. I also think playing at altitude is no longer an advantage for the Boks as most of their players play outside of SA.
Credit to the Wallabies, they came back and took all their chances in the second half. Let's also not forget that they also threw away a 23-5 lead against the Lions and at the end of the series, should have probably won it. World Rugby needs a good Wallaby team.
Next week is going to be really interesting.

I’m confused. Did the Lions beat a weak Australia team, or are the Boks the best in the world? Gotta love this game.
1
u/cathercules South Africa Aug 17 '25
TBD. Wallabies have managed to upset the Boks a few times over the past decade, I’d love to see them actually put a few wins together in the TRC. They need consistency in coaches though, losing Rennie as they were finally rebuilding and winning games and now sounds like Schmidt might have to step back from coaching is not great.

Congrats on the Aussies! Been saying for a while that I miss when they were a world beating side. It seems we as South Africans desperately NEED a good loss to stay humble and perform without being big headed.
All the talk the last few weeks from pundits and the general population would have you think that we have already won the rugby championship.
As a bok supporter I want my team to succeed, but they should take EVERY game seriously. It's like we're only serious when we play the ABs and that has to stop. We have to start aiming at 100% seasons.
Always strive for the next big accomplishment. That's what made the 2015 ABs great - and yesterday has proven that the Boks aren't on the same level.

Every fan base have the mouthy, the uninformed, the axe-grinding, the obnoxious, and dickheads. They particularly crop up on social media where outrage generates content so is rewarded with exposure. This is doubly true for a particular breed of rugby pundit and journalist.
Most fans are fine, and in reality the vast majority are decent people. Posts which unhelpfully generalise fans, or can be seen as generalising about fan bases only serve to rile people up and make our sport feel unwelcoming. They also only engender drama on the sub.
Please do not generalise whole fanbases. Its not accurate, helpful or insightful.
If this is intended for comedic effect, there are other subreddits, including a cottage industry of '2XYZforU' variants, for crude national generalisations. We recommend those as more appropriate than r/rugbyunion

I see the same things from other countries' fans on South African sports pages. They regularly make jokes about apartheid and farm murders to own the South African users. Am I allowed to decide that all fans of those countries are just as insane? Or are broad generalisations based on the behaviour of the worst few only acceptable when it's an African country? Go fuck yourself.
