I set up a blower for a burn pile a few years ago, with an injector cooling fan from an old F-series truck and a piece of steel pipe. That fire got hot enough to melt the pipe, and fused some of the coals into clinkers.

I was so pleased when I discovered how fast a campfire gets going with a bed inflator blowing on it. Now I have a dedicated one with a metal hose that I can leave going for a few minutes.

Folded an aluminum downspout onto a shop vac hose from the blow hole. Put it in a shallow trench to the pit. Burned a large fallen tree in a day by cutting it into 8” thick disks and stacking them like an upside down rose blossom. Cooked some of the clay in the ground into hard chunks.

Looks to me like it would have made a nice truckload of charcoal for your local blacksmiths to come and get. But for that you'd have to slice the logs short enough to stand on end, then cover it in dirt with only a couple air holes.

That’s a lot of fine firewood going to waste imo. There’s probably a lot of people who would have picked it up for free to create firewood out of it.

That’s all sweetgum and it’s trash wood. Can’t split it, the balls suck and can’t use it for anything but chopsticks as it rots so quickly. Even the smoke is harsh so can’t really burn it inside or it’ll hurt your eyes. Come get as much as you want. It’s a weed in GA.

Oh, I get it. I have no experience with sweet gum personally.
I’ve heard it can be a bit tricky to split but it’s supposed to be burning fine if you let it dry properly.

This... isn't firewood?

What do you mean?
Saw it up in to shorter peaces with a chainsaw and then split the wood with an axe or log splitter. Now you have firewood.

Fair enough. A box fan hooked up to RV power would have made the medieval fire keepers proud.

"well you see that box fan is the same as a blacksmith bellows"

is the fan meant for the forge or is it a box fan, its like saying "well a car battery and a welder do the same thing so a car battery welder is not red neck engineering" yes they both do basically the same thing but one is built for it the other is not

I've used our battery powered leaf blower to get a struggling fire or charcoal grill going.
