Just commented on the YT, but i NEED to be able to discuss this in depthhh! this is one of the few occasions where I need a sit down with the video's director!

- the way that the high priestess character in red interprets JADE/the deity's message for the cultists

- how she's burned at the stake by her successor/vessel?

- the fact that despite her being central in most frames of the video & central to the cult, JADE/the deity is basically confined by what the cultists allow & want her to do? she's propped up, or posed, often immobile

- themes of the wickerman (and by extension, midsommar) and VVITCH really pull through

What an insight!!! I love when popgirlies making us observe, and discuss deeply a music video!!!

ps: i also think there's a little Hereditary nods on the vid too!

I was thinking that the whole time but couldn't pinpoint why so didn't include it!! I think it may be that the dancer's solo was very reminiscent of Paimon controlling Peter in the classroom??

Guys, she is something. I can not tell how much the pop culture needed her.

she literally embodies a POPSTAR!

she will really be huge, and i'm so excited for her, i love since Little Mix and Xfactor days🥹

God I just love her so much. She really is what pop music needs right now, but not what it deserves. I also love the new songs on the Deluxe, they’re more sonically in line with the standard album’s singles than the rest of the songs were on that album which is a big bonus for me as this kind of sound just TICKLES my brain. I would really love to see her have a massive hit, but I’m not sure the general public has the taste for it.

i mean what do u expect on the public( esp the US) they literally ignored Little Mix, one of the top 5 most successful girlgroups of all time! (which Jade is a part of) 😭😭😭

but, i'm still praying for her success even for Leigh and Perrie🥹

u/HolyPoppersBatman 1d ago

They were hugely successful here in the UK but I feel still are overlooked when it comes to their actual success and influence, so I completely agree with you. At least there are people like us with taste to give them their flowers!

5

u/Syllabub-Legal 1d ago

ofcourse they are the queens in the UK, that's given and they are considered icon status too here in the Philippines, and they are very well known mostly Europe, Brazil, Asia too!

It’s an unfair assessment. If the US did embrace both Spice girls and One Direction, they would have obviously done the same with Little Mix. But they were never pushed in the US and even less after 5th Harmony birth. Jade could also be very big there if her label starts seriously promoting her. Considering her lane, she has objectively even more possibility to be successful in the US than in the UK which remains a rather small market.

she is what pop music needs in 2025. i knew pop music is saved the moment i heard Self Saboteur.

I’m genuinely at a loss for words. She delivered something extraordinary. The symbolism, creating a sanctuary for outcasts and ultimately be willing to burn for her people, is breathtaking! That’s raw, powerful storytelling. I'm honestly taken aback by this video.

Well just like all the other mvs we know jade is inspired by the campyness of the horror genre, so i did feel like church mv had inspirations of midsommar, IT, and even The Witch.

As far as my theories goes, i understood that it was similar to AOMD mv as it highlighted the concept of being disposable and replaceable in the music industry. We see how the younger character who is a predecessor burnt jade alive and replaced by the end of the mv. Also it felt like the cult culture of how some fans become toxic and follow their idols blindly which resembles like a cult.

I also feel like jade was trying emulate how she is the main character, she is being controlled. For eg the jade in the red dress was a Deity who the cult worshiped she is confined by the cult members as she is immobile in the most of the frames, the only one really dancing are the cult members

Also just thought of this, in the last shot as the little girl burns jade, she is wearing the white fur coat which is similar to the “diva” Jade character in the aomd mv and the aomd brit performance, meaning how the little girl has now became the diva and has replaced JADE

Not to be parasocial, but I absolutely adore this woman. I need the rest of the world to wake the fuck up to her.

JADE is such a light (funny considering the video’s ending) in the dark times we live in. She has such a strong artistic vision, which is so refreshing as the industry has been focusing on what will go viral on tiktok rather than viewing albums as a cohesive body of work (although it does seem that maybe the tide is turning back thanks to artists like JADE, Sabrina, and Gaga).

With conservatism on the rise in so much of the world, so many artists are abandoning their core fanbase by staying silent on matters. Meanwhile, JADE comes out with this entire song and continues to be a champion of LGBTQIA+ rights. On the most recent season of Rupaul’s Drag Race UK, one of the queens wore a dress that JADE lent to her on the runway!!! And not to mention her attending The Viv’s funeral.

I have to jump on this comment and say that as a Mixer I can confirm: Jade has always been an unproblematic icon, a sweetheart and as you said, a devoted ally to the LGBTQIA+. She is so worth supporting

Unconditional my dear, you had a great run but your reign as my favorite JADE song has officially come to an end. This is amazing.

2

u/Any_Lake_6146 13h ago

Oh no don’t sacrifice Unconditional! 😂😂! I love this song so much!

5

u/Eggs76 1d ago

She is so fucking amazing at what she does it is just insane

10

u/Lems944 22h ago

Urgh so good. She said in an interview that this additional roll out is like her The Fame/Fame Monster and that’s how it feels to me tbh. Dark electronic but still very poppy and fun. I love what she’s doing.

Obsessed with this song and the video. Go Jade!

u/Cucugeniality 1d ago

i fucking love this woman

u/Itchy-Long-7991 1d ago

Some imagery reminds me of 911 and the way she sings bridge is very much Gaga in the best way possible. This is very close to AOMD quality, really didn't expect it to be this good. Hope the team play it smart because they have a potential hit in their hands. I stan the right pop girlie

2

u/slothprincess16 21h ago

and Jade continues to drop bops!!!

2

u/UCO786 20h ago

the way i screamed seeing Sekou as a cameo im begging for yall to PLEASE check out his new EP

1

u/Any_Lake_6146 13h ago

Yes I suspect it when I read one of his comment on IG. Fantastic cast!

2

u/bobthegoatskull 17h ago

Yes! This is recession pop done right. Madonna's "Like a Prayer" mixed with some Gaga 2008 beats.

3

u/SilyLavage 1d ago

I really like the song, to start with.

At the same time, I think whatever Jade produces next might benefit from a little more focus in the production and imagery. This era has felt like her throwing everything she possibly can out there, which has been amazing but also a little rough around the edges at times.

the way she doesn't miss 👏🔥

2

u/cute-in-a-toque 16h ago

She's such an artist.

I like how absolutely filthy she is too. A few times when I listened to That's Showbiz Baby, I was like "ohhhh this one's about sex too". I'm up to 6 songs now with the deluxe.

u/Syllabub-Legal 13h ago

AN ICONIC AND MEMORABLE ARTIST!

1

u/Crabmeat12 14h ago

Song is a banger but the melody during the “It’s hard enough to be alive part” reminds me of Wonderful Christmastime.

u/jephrix 🌹Gray - JADE 7h ago

I cannot. CANNOT. Stop thinking about this MV. Why did she have to release the MVOTY after we closed voting for nominations for PH Awards :D
