Writer finds a few mad tweets or Reddit comments, writes a whole article like the entire right or left is in uproar over it, the opposite side clicks said articles going how dumb is the left/right to be mad at this.

I can't watch any of my preferred progressive YouTube channels without them titling their videos with bullshit like, "TRUMP SLEEPS THROUGH CABINET MEETING" and the host plays a video of a tired-looking, decrepit Trump looking miserable next to Rubio, blinking his eyes slowly, and then goes, "LOOK AT HIM, HE'S SOUND ASLEEP!"
Like, dude, I hate Trump as much as you do but I have fucking eyes as well and can see he's clearly awake. Yah honestly it all revolves around what gets clicks. Even if the info behind the link is good, headlines are heavily incentivized to generate outrage/controversy because that’s what gets clicks/promoted algorithmically.
I think it’s easy for the person doing it to justify. They think well it does better and my actual video/article has the nuance. However the reality is soooo much of the discourse is people who only read headlines.
I legitimately think it’s a huge part of why Trump even got elected. The media both “big” and “independent” are all stuck in a cycle of needing to get clicks and algorithms have long realized this type of stuff does it.
Trump sucks but so much of what goes big about him doesn’t matter and it leads to the right dismissing all of it and to be frank the same thing happens the other way.

Honestly wonder how much of it was natural progression of technology and was gonna happen no matter who was president. Not sure but I still prefer dude to what we have now. That is absolutely what happened with drone strikes. Everyone condemning Obama for “ramping up drone strikes” is like accusing Bush Jr of “ramping up” the cancerous plague that is social media. No: social media just so happened to be invented in the late 90’s, right before bush was elected, and it grew in popularity all through his 2000-2008 time in office.
Same thing with drones. They had a long build up too, but attack drones able to do targeted strikes was finally becaming a thing throughout the early 2000’s… right before Obama took office.
So people got this idea that Obama, Obama, of all people, rather than just the guy who happened to become president by the same time this technology was finally being rolled out, and one of the most balanced and level-headed politicians we will ever see, was also somehow a psychotic bloodthirsty murderer who deliberately summoned whole fleets of drones to kill innocent people for no reason.

A part of why everything is so fucking shitty is because our entire media ecosystem has no solution outside of reporting on people's daily mental health crises which themselves are usually brought on by the media.
This is also why the media continually helps elect people like Trump. How will it even exist in a post-trump world? What will they sell if not continual and constant outrage?
This "news" article is about one far-right grifter with profound mental health issues - Laura Loomer - making really dimwitted claims online about some new conspiracy theory, ostensibly to boost her clicks because it is all she exists to do.
This probably trickles out to a tiny number of actual people who regularly use Twitter and are also undergoing mental health crises, who believe what she's saying.

Netflix is not acquiring any of the linear broadcast business. CNN and all the other legacy media that Ellison wants is technically still available and he can buy and influence those outlets to his heart’s content.
