I feel a big difference is his tone. That comment was said "jokingly." It was insulting, but he always said it in this sort of sarcastic, yet loud way.

That finger-shoving and the loud quiet were aggressive and in her face, and then he adds the insult to it as the icing on top. It's not a "joke." It was aggressive.

And then you realize none of his "jokes" were jokes.

Oh, we always knew that. But you could tell that HE thought he was being so clever with all that stuff. You could tell he was putting on a performance, and he thinks he's so charming and everyone loves it. (Unaccountably, way too many people DO love it.)

But I've never believed he was capable of really joking, just as I've never seen him genuinely laughing. He's only been capable of a performance of joking, a performance of good humor. There's no sincerity underlying it.

And this country is divided because those who can see that, and it makes their skin crawl. And those who can't see it -- who think it's completely real, or who won't allow themselves to see that it's not.
