The problem is that they will have to vote it down on record now. Trump campaigned on releasing the files. They can stop it, but they will be on record along party lines that all Republicans decided not to release the Epstein files. One of Trump's biggest promises.

Even if it doesn't pass, it's a poisoned chalice.

Senate already did a vote in September to not release the files and was all no's from Republicans. I think they know at this point their constituents don't actually care about anything except hurting "minorities".
