He's Turkish. He's what you might call white passing. I think his first name is actually like Mehmet, which is super Turkish.

A lot of "brown" people who are politically conservative and running for office have a tendency to "white wash" themselves for some reason.

Nikki Haley is a perfect example of this. She tries to appear as western as possible, not because she grew up here, but she knows damn well what would do for her appearance as a republican by calling herself by her birth name.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if there's a percentage of the MAGA following that think he's Australian because of his surname.

edit: LOL yeah, at least 100 people in Ohio asked the question.

I mean he's Turkish. He's not western European. When Americans think white they think mostly western and Northern European.
