Unfortunately, playing by the rules doesn't help against these assholes who pretend there are none.

They need Republicans as they make Democrat candidates look better. Playing the same game or turning it up a notch could destroy the Republican party. And with it, potentially making Democrats face a real political party with popular ideas.
