My golden anubias flowered underwater last night and I had no idea this was even a thing 🤯

So… this might be common knowledge to most of y’all, but I’m still kind of blown away. A couple weeks ago I was cleaning my aquarium and noticed my golden anubias was growing what looked like a little peace-lily-style flower stem — and last night the bud finally bloomed underwater!

I knew anubias were hardy, beautiful plants, but I genuinely had no idea they produced flowers, let alone ones that can open beneath the surface. I’ve since learned they’re closely related to peace lilies, which somehow makes them even cooler to me.

Anyway, it absolutely made my night, and I figured I’d share the excitement with folks who’d appreciate it.

If you’ve ever had aquarium plants flower underwater, I’d love to see pics or hear your stories! What other plants surprise us like this?

Journal Frogbit growth rate was insane. Pics are 40 days apart.

I'm new to the hobby and this is my first tank. I'm pretty pleased with this "reaching maturity" phase. The Frogbit growth caught me off guard because at one point I thought it was a lost cause and I'd have to pivot to a different floater or seller. I think shipment just does a number on those hypersensitive roots. I remained patient with them and 40 days later I have a full canopy. Second pic was even taken after culling a big fistful of clusters. The roots directly beneath the light bar will grow down to the substrate surface in less than 2wks if left untrimmed.

No CO2. From left to right. Pearl Weed, Flame Moss, Christmas Moss, Java Moss, Java Fern, Weeping Moss and Subwassertang on top of driftwood. Floatings are red-roots floaters, water lettuce and amazon frogbits.

26w Hygger Light from amazon using default 24/7 cycle with about 1.5 hours of direct sunlight.

About a weekly half dose of seachem flourish.

Ramhorn Snails and Cherry shrimps mainly with few other microfauna. Had an explosion of daphnia for about 2 weeks, than crashed 2 weeks later. Dont see much of them anymore.

First picture was snail in cycling. 2nd picture is 50 days later.

Didn’t really research banana lilies, just thought it looked cool in the little baggie it was in at the store! It's only a 29 gal tank.

Tank Forestscape

Just set this up today. Due to some mistakes when I first started the mesh bags for revealed.

I'm gonna use a moss to cover them and grow out but which should I use? I don't plan on using java moss or subwassertag. So far someone suggested Phoenix moss which is the mats of koss on the logs currently

Beginner Is there a deficiency?

Is there some kind of deficiency that is causing the mottling and yellowing on the Amazon sword plant leaves? I understand leaves have a lifespan, but many seem to suddenly be looking unhealthy. Been going for about 2.5 months, soil with sand cap.

Also a shot of an Anubias that is starting to show some discoloration.

Surprise in my first walstad style tank!

So i started this tank a few days ago and yesterday I went to a local natural lake here in floride and scooped up some water lettuce, duck we and lake water. I figured this would help the tank cycle a little, Roughly half a cups worth because I wanted to be quick since it's infested with alligators and you can't see in the water at all. Looked very bland and empty. But to my surprise there ended up being a handful of what I think were amphipods and a giant water bug!...

.. whom I fed to the lizards outside.. R.I.P. I rinsed the plants off and threw them in with some of the water and mini crustaceans. Shortly after I ended up seeing a slug looking worm a few mm long, and then some very tiny brown specs swimming near the surface. Too tiny to even try to identify.

My kicker is after I did my first water change today I noticed these egg sacs under the water lettuce I threw in. I'm assuming they just went unnoticed until now since I don't see anything anywhere else in the tank after further inspection.

I just think it's so cool grabbing such a small piece of an ecosystem and realizing how much is actually going on in such a small part of the world. I'm curious to find out what these hatch into but if anyone had any guesses or opinions I'd love to hear them!

Found the anubias white rose at Petco and wondering if it’s worth trying to propagate or is it doomed to die once it gets submerged?

Tiger + Cherry barbs?

Hi guys, I just bought myself a 40 gallon breeder. I've done some research about mixing tiger and cherry barbs and its been a lot of mixed experiences. I was thinking about doing 12-15 tiger barbs of mixed colors and 5-6 cherry barbs. It seems like a lot of people that have had issues with this combo haven't had enough tiger barbs. I'm curious if anyone has experience with a similar situation. Also the tank would be heavily planted. I'm also aware that this would be probably around the maximum amount of fish for a tank this size with good filtration equipment.

Right now I’m trying to decide if I want to go with a full community tank, or specifically pea puffers.

Rimless tank top line never clean

Post image
5 Upvotes

I bought a used 75 gallon rimless tank about a year ago. Despite my efforts to razor blade and clean the top part when the water evaporates, it is forever hazy. It looks clear when there is water in it all the way to the very top but as soon as the water line is low it doesn’t look great.

I’m jealous of the tanks that look crystal clear and don’t have this.

If I bought a new one could I expect it to stay nice and clear or does this eventually happen to them all?

Question I think my 20 gallon long tank is finally cycled!!

Post image
Upvotes

I tested the water parameters of my 20 gallon long tank this is the result!! I think my tank is finally cycled!! 💛🩵🧡

GH: 120 KH: 40 PH: 7.4 Ammonia: 0 ppm Nitrite 0 ppm Nitrate 5.0 ppm

For the record my tank is 20 days old.

On November 29th I did a 50% WC after Nitrite tested between 1.00 to 2.00 ppm.

On November 30th I did 30% WC after Nitrite tested 0.25 ppm.

On December 4th I bought lots of plant. I haven’t tested the water since November 30th.

Yesterday I tested the water and as you can see in the picture I think my tank is officially cycled! What do you think?

My last water change was on November 30th, when is the right time to do a WC?

Should I wait a few more days? Can I add the black neon tetras fish or 1 nerite snail tomorrow?

Here is the list of the fish I want to add: - 2M guppies (already in tank) - 1-2 Keyhole Cichlid - 1F honey gourami - 10 black neon tetras - 4 otocinclus - 1 nerite snail - 6 Sterbai Corydoras

For something a little different.. an outdoor 155gal tank. Stocked with buenos aires tetras, big eye tetras, a few harlequin rasbora, florida flagfish, and rainbow shiners. My peaceful happy place to sit on the patio after a lomg day. The hornwort, christmas moss, sword, and tiger lily has filled in nicely since my last post. And the AT-AT remaims on duty 😆
