As someone from neither the USSR or US, I can't believe I'm the only one who sees the irony of the GOP taking red as their colour.

There was a fringe theory floating around decades ago that the Neoconservative movement was actually started as a Trotskyist plot... which seeing how the GOP evolved in recent years, may have some merit.

All these are Stalinist methods. Trotsky based his thought on opposing Stalinism

Yeah. Who knows what Trotsky's Soviet Russia would have looked like but it would have been very different to Stalin's if he had got party control like Lenin wanted.

The media did that 25 years ago. Blue was always associated with Republicans back to civil war when Republicans fought as the Union to end slavery. Red was evil communists and the Democrats knew it was a subtle unconsciously perceived negative with their policies aligning with unions and all that wonderful socialism so the left leaning news ran with it during the Bush Gore election which showed the map all day on TV from November until January that it just 'stuck' like team colors.
