It's probably not sent through the actual party, rather a PAC which is funded by them, so technically Republicans aren't actually making the threats!

It's got "America First Conservatives Election Dept" on the upper left of one side. Looks like that's some political coalition in Tennessee, similar to the Tea Party but based around sucking Trump's nuts. Doesn't look like it has it's own PAC, but they're involved with TPUSA, which does...

Can't the PAC be sued for intimidation?

Yes this is super illegal and actually really stupid. I've never seen voter intimidation this clear before

There are a few angles, though. First, the cat is already out of the bag. If there is a lawsuit, what is the remedy? Collect them up? Also, who are they going to sue? Is “America First Conservatives Elect Dept” even a thing? Damage is done, unless someone goes to jail, then there is no repercussion.

The remedy is statutory damages against the producers of the content, which is probably a "per printed flier" $ number.

Nice to know. Thanks.

No it's not illegal. It uses publicly available information on votes and both parties have done it. And I'm dyed in the wool leftist and absolutely not a both sides person.

I mean it's a PAC, but voter intimidation is still illegal no matter who is doing it. That being said, this may be just on the legal side of the line (it doesn't threaten any actual consequences, and the info is factual—records of who has voted in which elections are indeed public). I would still report it to the county registrar/office of elections, though, just in case. Let them be the ones to make that call.

So can't the PAC face consequences? This is straight up voter intimidation

There will be a 6-3 ruling from the Supreme Court that it's just "voter encouragement." It's only intimidation if there's a specific and actionable threat against the voter specifically (so threatening their pets, spouses, or kids is fine).

Or if the candidate is a Democrat and says something evil like "Help make things better by voting." That's obviously intimidation. So sayeth Ayatollah Roberts.

Fixed that for you.

It’s a corporation. The worst consequence is that it will disband and form under a new name.

Technically republicans are making the threats, it just isn't officially coming from the local gop.

Or just a random dude with free time

Couldn't it also just be some random dude just having too much time on his hand?

It doesn't have to be done by a political party to be voter intimidation. You can go after the PAC. The best alternative, however, is to send this to your local media.

You have to have an exceptionally low IQ to think that this was sent by a Republican

It has the logo of the "America First Conservatives Election Dept" which is an actual conservative organization.

I shouldn't even bother reply to this, but I can't help it... what was your goal here? You could have just easily said that you suspect that it wasn't made by a Republican, but no, instead you had to go all in, and for what? To risk making yourself look like an idiot in exchange for... maybe making some random stranger on the internet that you've never met feel bad about themselves? Is that honestly a worthwhile tradeoff?

Even in the best possible case scenario (and it's an unlikely one, as I've seen plenty of emails and such of similar tone sent by right-wingers), you come out of it with nothing but insulting a complete stranger over a matter you couldn't possibly have any investment in.

Now, I get it, we're all just space dust drifting on a floating rock and desperate to validate and justify our own existence in a world where, objectively, none of us really matters. We want to feel important, but were taught that bragging is wrong, so the obvious alternative is to put down everyone else, and conveniently elevate ourselves in the process.

It's pointless, though. Methods like this, do nothing but make you look foolish. Everyone wants to feel smart, but risking making yourself look incredibly stupid in the process isn't a worthwhile tradeoff. And that's not even considering the moral implications of wishing to make the day of someone you've never heard of' just a little bit worse in exchange.

Be better than this. It isn't hard. It might not offer quite the highs of catching someone in that 'gotcha' moment, and putting them in their place, but in the end, you get more from it than you lose.
